I dreamed last night that I was totally head-over-heels infatuated with a . . . GIRL!

AAAAH! I'm a repressed lesbian!

Seems like you've figured it out pretty much.

I'm gonna need more details though before I am sure. Yep, lots of details. Take your time...

NO NO NO!!!

<opens Bob's Giant Book of Dream Imagery: repressed lesbian edition>

Where was that...

Oh, here!

quote:
Women dreaming of intimate encounters with other women is not -- we repeat, NOT! -- an indication of homosexual tendencies. There are really three basic possible symbolic interpreations of this depending on the relative ages of the dream self and the dream woman.

self older than dream woman: The dreamer is looking back on younger days of her own life and wishing to recapture that youthful innocence and vitality. This type of dream is sending a message about the need to inject more fun and more wide-eyed wonder into the waking life.

self same age as dream woman: The dreamer is reflecting on her ideal self and coming to terms with a difficult issue -- usually related to personality or ethics. This type of thing usually occurs in conjunction with major life changes or decision points.

self much younger than dream woman: This is representative of wisdom seeking. It is usually symbolic of the woman in waking life needing to reconnect with her roots -- needing to feel a greater sense of connectedness to family and culture.

NOTE: If the dreamer is homosexual in waking life, all of the above may apply, or this could just be a pleasant erotic dream.

So...there you go.

But I have one more question for you...

Can I watch?

[Smile] NO.

She was the same age as me, maybe younger (I still think of myself as young 20s, though I am not anymore)

Posted by PSI Teleport (Member # 5545) on :

That's happened to me before, and I was always confused when I woke up. It didn't make sense that I could be attracted to someone like that in a dream, and then not carry those feelings into real life.

Dude. That's weird.

Sounds like someone would be dreaming about recapturing their youth to me.

Hmmm..

That kinda brings up a question I've always had about some of MY dreams....

....but seeing as how my daughter reads these threads, and the dreams are kind of -- well, ya know. I think I will have to have Bob interpret it privately. (by that I mean - VIA E-mail!) Man, that sounded bad. Sorry dkw.

Actually, this dream had nothing erotic in it at all. But I have definitely had my share of erotic dreams with women. It never seems weird while I am dreaming, but when I wake up, I am all weirded out. Those dreams, though, do not involve feelings of love and this one did. (No, it was not anyone in particular.) That was why this dream stood out to me.

But while I have such dreams as these, they are in the minority compared to romantic/erotic dreams dealing with men. I have always had deep-set issues with my own femininity, though. As a child, I was a devout tom-boy (not to be confused with the Filipino term "tom-boy" which means lesbian). I started out only being attracted to guys who were somewhat effeminate. Masculine men intimidated me greatly. (I think porteiro is very masculine, BTW and I like it [Smile] .) So I figure given the right mix of nurturing and a different belief system, I could have been bisexual.

But then I have always had leanings toward the "Furry" community also (people who enjoy anthropomorphized animal characters, think Disney's cartoon Robin Hood.) I have always thought people would be way sexy if they had long, furry tails. Does that make me bestial?

As a rational human being with a strong belief system, I usually ignore such tendancies or put them into perspective. That is just me.

Sounds to me like your a gay man trapped in a woman's body.

So, beverly, does my interpretation fit?
[Dont Know]

Dude. This is really weird.

Posted by beverly (Member # 6246) on :

Sorry, hubby. I AM weird.

Bob, I don't know. It could be so, but I think it might be more complex than that. I'm sure that is probably at least part of it though. It is somewhat a relief to know that such dreams are normal.

Posted by beverly (Member # 6246) on :

Actually, Bob, I think if it were to be one of those three, it would be the second. It sounds more like something I would be feeling now, and while the girl may technically have been younger than the real me, in the dream I perceived us as the same age, because that is the age I perceive myself to be.

Hey, maybe the girl in my dream was a symbolic representation of Hatrack! [Wink]

beverly...hmm...you might be onto something. Do you feel all squishy inside when you post at Hatrack?

I know I do. [Razz]

You guys only feel that way because your SO's post here. [Mad]

Yep.

Bob, Hatrack is very special to me, and I don't want to get cheesy on anyone, but I haven't felt like this in a long time, if ever.

I am quite serious about the interpretation, I think I have hit it on the head. Especially when I remember in the dream, I was sitting with this girl at a table confessing my love, saying I had found something that I had beed searching for all my life, and that I was deeply happy. Then my husband walks by and hears us talking. I felt immediately guilty, because of the implications this had on our marriage. Yet I couldn't deny I had spoken the absolute truth. He was still linked to the whole thing, part of it. Weird....

Wow, kudos to you beverly. I've been at hatrack for I don't know how long and never felt so comfortable sharing [Smile] .

But I'll jump in and give another "you're not the only one." Though Bob's post made me sad because I saw a lot of truth in it. I can actually deal with being attracted to women (considering I have been attracted to a couple of women in my waking hours, though I've never actually experienced anything more), but the idea that

quote:
self older than dream woman: The dreamer is looking back on younger days of her own life and wishing to recapture that youthful innocence and vitality. This type of dream is sending a message about the need to inject more fun and more wide-eyed wonder into the waking life.
sincerely worries me. Geez, I haven't been innocent in a long time *laughs*.

Anyway, since we've got Bob listening, any symbology with regards to teeth? I've been having a lot of dreams involving teeth; in one I was waking up my husband because he grinds his teeth at night and he bit my arm. It didn't hurt, he just sunk his teeth into my arm and didn't let go. I think my exact words were "You can't bite my arm, you have to stop," and then he gave me the most pitiful needy puppy eyed look and let go. Then he started grinding his teeth again and they sort of dissolved. Very disturbing. In another the kid woke me up and said she had lost a tooth. She showed me where the tooth had fallen out, and in it's place was a full grown adult tooth. I was upset because I thought the new tooth had a cavity, but I woke up and wasn't sure if it did or not.

Also having those darn driving dreams again, where I am driving and lose control of my car. In the last one I was driving through Baltimore and there were a bunch of kids sitting on a curb. I couldn't stop or slow down, but I was able to get around them. Then I drove straight up a driveway and crashed into the car parked there, and one of the parents of the kids on the curb came out and screamed at me because I almost hit her kid.

This is not usually how the dream goes. Normally I am trying to drive north; to Baltimore, or from DC back home. I get lost somewhere around DC and end up going south to Crystal City VA. One of two things happen at this point; I remain lost and out of control-no matter how hard I try to go north I keep going south. I eventually crash into something and wake up. Or, I am lost and out of control (by out of control I mean I am not able to stop or slow down, but can still steer a little), and end up on an exit ramp that gets more and more narrow until it turns into a roller coaster track. At this point I cannot steer the car. I end up going over the river this way, but instead of completely crossing it I end up at an island. The island looks like Emerald City except clear (which is what I picture when I think of Crystal City VA). I sometimes wake up before I actually land on the island, and even when I know I landed I can never remember what happens after that.

Any ideas [Smile] ?

I had a dream that I was on the show "angel" and the cast and I were killing puppets and vampire squirells(sp?).

I have dreams regarding losing teeth often, and they are supposed to mean that the person is nervous about their appearance. I don't know if that fits you though, LadyDay.

I hate the 'losing your teeth' dream. I wake up trying to spit pebbles of teeth out of my mouth.

Losing my teeth is the worst...I have dreams like that nearly every week.

But the one that gets me most is when I dream that Jesse cheats on me. It's usually with some chick that isn't very attractive, and I always end up befriending her, whereas Jes ends up being so stupid in the dream that he doesn't even understand why I'm mad, and I just keep punching him over and over.

It's frustrating because there's no reason to think Jes would cheat on me nor behave like a moose if caught, and it leaves me weeping when I wake up. It's so realistic that it's difficult not to be cold to Jes when I wake up. I really HATE it! [Frown]

edit to add: I also never try to solve problems by hitting, so it's shocking and painful when I do it so often in my dreams.

I don't smoke and I think it's a disgusting habit, but I have dreamt more than once that I started to smoke... that was definately my strangest dream. [Confused]

I have definitely had the loosing teeth dreams, and I don't think it was about appearance. It was more a disturbing feeling of something very solid missing from my body. I have major issues with amputation and things along those lines.

No driving dreams, but definitely dreams about Porter cheating. They are rare, and he would never act in real life as he does in the dream, but it hurts nonetheless and it is hard not to be severely ticked off at him the next morning. I often respond violently in my dreams too. I tend to repress anger, so it doesn't surprise me too much.

What does it mean when I dream about ....

- running from the Mafia because they are trying to kill me?

I have the teeth falling out dream, too. My Grandmother always said that meant someone I knew was going to die soon. But apparantly, in the Polish culture, every dream meant someone you knew was going to die soon. [Smile]

I also have this one where there are long hairs growing out of the bottom of my mouth. No clue what that one means.

I've had the teeth falling out dream a few times.

Oh, and welcome to Hatrack, Angelily!

The teeth falling out dream is so common, Freud said it was about guilt over...uh, something else that lonely young people frequently do. I've had it. My brother was just telling me about his teeth dreams, but they involved a lot of pain and torture and confinement (heated pliers and the like). I didn't tell him about the Freud interpretation.

Last night I dreamed I was hanging out with the X men and my husband was helping them hack into the matrix. After I while I realized I have no powers and don't know anything about computers, but they let me hang around because my husband liked me.

That's so weird. I've never had anything remotely like a tooth-losing dream.

The other night I dreamed that I had a teenage, or almost teenage, daughter that I didn't know about. She lived in my mom's garage. Nobody could remember who the child's mother was.

No teeth dreams here. Last night I had a really fun dream that I got to be the person that sorts the mail out to where it's supposed to go at the Post Office.

About teeth-my dream dictionary (The Encyclopedia of Dreams Symbols and Interperetation by Rosemary Ellen Guiley), although I'm not sure how acurate it may be, says that teeth are one of the most common dream motifs. LadyDay, it says that biting, while an agressive act, can also symbolize sensuality and the act of love. The teeth, representing the male, penetrate the flesh, or the female.

Teeth are also a symbol of speech, and in dreams may reflect the impact of what one says to another. For example: loose teeth can equal careless talk. Maybe some of you dreaming about lose teeth had said something without thinking to another person before you had the dream?

My favorite interperation for teeth has to do with death and rebirth. Teeth are tied to life cycles in that you lose your baby teeth and grow adult teeth.

But this is for those of you who've been dreaming about losing your teeth:

quote:
Losing teeth represents a loss of power or potency, maturation, the process of growing older, or physical or emotional injury.
