Unicornwhisper and I are craving a good cooperative, 2-player computer game. We like to play games with each other, not against each other. There doesn't seem to be many computer games like that out there, at least that we know of.

Any good ones that you know of?

P.S.-Excessive blood & violence type games are not on our list of favorites [No No]

Any strategy game worth its salt will allow you to play as allies. [Smile]

My favorite cooperitive game is Unreal Tournament with 2 or 3 humans agains 8 or 9 bots. I always keep the gore turned off because of the kids in the house.

Return of the King for Xbox is a pretty fun two player game, even if it goes nowhere close to the script, or the books for that matter.

I should add that Unicornwhisperer does not like straight fighting games like Street Fighter, Virtua Fighter, etc. We like more of the RPG-related games, like Secret of Mana was for SNES.

Neverwinter Nights might be worth looking into, then.

Tetris?

I agree. Try out Neverwinter Nights.

I just checked out N. Nights a bit. It looks cool. We love fantasy RPG-type games. We have Morrowind and love it, but it of course is single player.

Can N. Nights be played 2-player over a LAN? That is how we like to play. Our computers are in the same room.

Posted by mr_porteiro_head (Member # 4644) on :

Yes it can.

Cooperative Star Craft?

We still play the Frozen Throne together, and it's a lot of fun, but we are also looking for something a little different.

On N. Nights, does 2-player mode require you to have a gamemaster (dungeon master)? The website didn't make this clear.

Posted by mr_porteiro_head (Member # 4644) on :

Multi-player can be played in two ways. Either you can create adventures and run them as Dungeon Master, or you can play the normal campaign multiplayer.

Dungeon Siege works too, it's easy don't plan on getting 100 hours of single player gaming in...but new maps are being made and such...slowly though. :: wants more maps ::

Is the multiplayer mode enjoyable and fairly user friendly, or is it akward to tag along with someone else?

Posted by BYuCnslr (Member # 1857) on :

I rather enjoy it, note that the game is rather simple, but good. Final Fantasy XI is supposidly rather good multiplayer as well...though it's $100 a pop.

Dungeon Siege was a great multiplayer ally game.

But my addiction is NWN which is absolutely awesome [Smile]

Theres a Bubble Bobble game you can buy online.. we have the demo but it's only five levels or so...
I love the game for nostalgic reasons and it's 2 players at the same time! But I don't think Marlozhan is interested. [Grumble]

What about a couple in which the husband, for some insane reason, hates all fantasy-like RPG's? What can WE play?

Posted by Telperion the Silver (Member # 6074) on :

I recomend Homeworld 2, Starcraft, and Age of Wonders 2. [Smile]

Marlo, you and hubby might want to try out an mmorpg like Everquest or Dark Age of Camelot, etc. I know of a lot of fathers and sons, and husbands and wives that play it together.

PSI, how about hide the pickle?

Can't you play Age of Empires type games online as co-ops?

Storm... [ROFL]

Maybe YOU should convince him to play it with me. [Wall Bash]

You can get emulators (MAME) to play old console games, just a month ago I played bubble bobble (best game ever made, minus pong of course) a few months ago and finished the game....goodness I love that game. There are a bunch of other games too, though it's easier if you have game controllers (which you can get for around $15 each), or a second keyboard to plug into the computer.

You guys have got me interested in NWN. I am probably going to get it. We both love those types of games.

I have another question, though. For N. Nights, do you have to have two copies of the game to play it on our two computers (i.e.-do you have to have the cd in your computer after installation to play it) or will one copy suffice?

If you want something on a more long term, and have 2 computers, you could try MMORP's like Everquest.

That way you not only work together, but can join with others and make friends as you travel and grow. It is non-gory and I enjoy it (gonna get my Journeyman Boots tonight if the special Anniversary Skeleton Army does't get in my way).

I think you are *supposed* to have the CD in the drive, but you don't have to. There are always cracks that you can download that allow you to play without the CD in the drive. When I played NWN by myself I did that just so I didn't have to deal with the CD.

How about Contra for the NES? Classic coop. Or maybe Double Dragon. Doesn't get much better than that. Or gauntlet. That way you can actually play a man and a woman in the game. Wow, this is reminding me of when arcades were actually cool. [Smile]

My hubby and I have been talking about getting NWN...but can it also be played 2-player with one computer? And is it somewhat fun that way? I'm not interested in getting another computer yet. What has to be purchased besides the game itself?

Storm
You recommended Marlozahn to play Everquest or Dark Age of Camelot with his hubby when you really should have said with his wife... He's my hubby.
[ROFL]
I'm sure it's just an honest mistake.
[Blushing]

Yes, an honest mistake. [Smile]

Well, I bought the game and installed the no-cd patch. I tried connecting to a game with my wife, but it said that the cd key was already in use. So, is there any way around this, or do I need to buy another copy if I want to play with her? [Confused]

Posted by Marlozhan (Member # 2422) on :

...Or, I wonder if there is a way to buy another cd key from the company at a lower price than the whole package? My guess is probably not.
