Okay, this'll probably sound wierd...

Do you have any family in Oklahoma? Particularly ancestors from the Woodward area?

Before you just think I'm a nut, a LOT of my dad's side of the family are Methodist ministers, his last name is Williams, and there are LOTS of relatives I've never met.

Just wondering...

If so, then she is related to me as well, because my entire history on this farm is the family of the Williams'. My grandmother (last name Williams) who got it from her dad, who got it from his dad)..

There are so many of them....

In fact, my great-grandfather John Williams (who came over from Wales) married Mary Williams -- and that was her MAIDEN name. No relation. But at least she didn't have to change her name!

*snicker*

*or maybe Boon and I are related!*

I know, but isn't it fun to think about meeting people and knowing them for a while and the...come to find out they're like, your 5th cousin or something?

I know there are TONS of different Williams families in the US. It was just a stray thought...

Porter and I are ninth cousins. We are both (third and fourth respectively) cousins of OSC. [Big Grin]

I do have one uncle who's a United Methodist pastor in Oklahoma. But he moved there after college. My Williams relatives all originate from South Dakota.

*laugh* Where in South Dakota? My coworker seems to know everyone from there and her mother still lives there (Brookings iirc?)

This reminds me of something I heard once but have never confirmed. Is it true that the LDS has some of the best genealogical records in the United States? If so, are why? And are they publicly available?

Thanks,

Dagonee

Yes; I'll let the LDS members answer the why; and yes, I've seen 'em.

Dags,

Because they're all related, that makes keeping records pretty easy.

*rim shot*

Storm, they keep records of non-LDS too, which is why their databases are so useful for genealogical research. [Smile]

LDS members are supposed to posthumously baptise all of their preLDS ancestors. Since there are always new members joining the group, and some bloodlines disappear into the mists of the past, it behooves the LDS to gain and maintain the maximum size of geneological record for the purpose of running cross-references.

I think that most of my known family tree is on myfamily.com or ancestry.com or whatever. All I know is that we've apparently got a direct ancestor who deserted, then paid George Washington twenty bucks to forive the debt if he could come back.

And that the Cherokee women were all named Edmonson and a bunch of sisters married a bunch of Gallemore brothers. We have dirt named after the Gallmores. So end the interesting parts.

(and my sister got all the Cherokee looks, too.)

Just so long as I'm not related to dkw.

At least as long as we're not more than 2nd cousins....

How does that song go?

(Sing to the tune of Complicated by Avril Lavigne)

How was I supposed to know that we were both related?
If I had-a
known she was my cousin we ne-ever would have dated.
What to do now?
Should I go ahead and propose and get hitched and have kids with eleven toes or
Move to Alabama where that kind of thing is tolerated?
No, no, no.
