Now that my dear sister is otherwise occupied, at least she better be, allow me to introduce myself. I am ElJay, dkw’s younger sister. (ElJay Double-Yew, if you wish to be formal.)

I met some of you at the Midwest gathering at Dana’s house, and told you at the time I did not intend to register at HatRack. Dana’s space, I said. The secret to harmonious family relationships is not getting involved in everything your family members do, I said. But, see, she kept sending me links to all the cute and funny things she and Bob were posting... oh, and did I mention, I knew before ANY of you? Ha!

*ahem* Anywho, where was I... So, links to cute threads, started looking around, decided maybe I wanted to participate after all. What good’s a mind if you’re not going to change it every now and then?

(Oh, and I waited until the big countdown ended only because I figured the scroll would be slower with the two of them on their date, not ‘cause I’m trying to sneak in behind dkw’s back. I got her blessing first. :) )

So, very nice to meet you all. A charming place you’ve got here, thanks for inviting me. I’m delighted to make your acquaintance.

Welcome ElJay [Wave]

Thought I'd get in before you're pounced on by all the Hatrack old timers.

Hey, there. Figured you'd be showing up sooner or later. [Smile] This place has a certain pull to it.

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

Fruitful? My posts? I did not see any grapes or cherries among the graemlins...

And Tom: Truly, I just didn't want to miss the gossip and speculation that's sure to run rampant this weekend around Dana & Bob's date. I have a great deal of restraint, but not that much!

*grin* Well, then, regardless of how the date turns out, their forbidden love has at least borne one worthwhile fruit. [Smile]

Welcome Eljay - great to have you here...

May I introduce the worshipping grape... [Hail]

(At least, I think that's what they call it around here...)

Hi, ElJay!

Trust me on this one: go and register the other lookalike of your name right now (i.e., E - "capital i" - Jay). This prevents later weirdness. [Big Grin]

Welcome to Hatrack. [Smile]

ElJay, it's very nice to meet you! I'm Raia. [Smile] I hope we can be friends! Welcome to the forums. [Wave]

Wow, another Iowan! So does that mean we have like 5% of the state's population here? 10%? [Big Grin]

Welcome, ElJay! [Wave] Any sister of Dana's is a sis-- um, wait, that doesn't quite work. Hmm.

Welcome, ElJay. [Wave]

This is Julie. (The Julie who crocheted all weekend.)

Greetings. I hope that you find a better way not step on family member's toes besides never be in the same room. [Big Grin]

Welcome! I baked you a welcome cake, but my curiosity got the better of me and I deep fried it. You can still have some, of course. [Smile]

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

Thanks to you all for the welcomes. :) But I must correct one thing... I am NOT an Iowan. Minnesotan, thank you very much.

And Theca, you didn't need to specify. Although I'd say you really only crocheted most of the weekend.

Hmmm. A new source of dirt. Gotta love it. [Smile]

Welcome aboard. If good things run in families, I'm sure you'll do great things here.

So, tell me, did you really drop by just to see our reactions to the Lavalamp thread? [Smile]

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

Dagonee... see, the problem is, she's got the dirt on ME, too.

And Tom, I didn't think they'd announce this soon... expected it to come at the end of the weekend. But I should have known they wouldn't be able to not share with Hatrack. But yeah, I wanted to be part of the conversation.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Sorry about that, ElJay. [Smile]

Ok, if no one else is going to ask, I will. They are engaged, right?

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

rivka, no problem.

But, um, I'm not sure if I'm supposed to answer. I was thinking about clearing that up in their thread, since I'm sure they just dropped the news and went chuckling off happily, enjoying the confusion. But this is their game, and their fun. They enjoyed playing everyone with the dating each other thing so much, who am I to spoil this one for them?

Posted by mackillian (Member # 586) on :

A kind soul, that's what. Spill.

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

Engaged.

Like I'd still be in MN if my only sister was getting married. I'm going to be standing beside her, wearing the most hideous dress she can find, I'm sure.

You could pre-empt her and find a MORE hideous dress.

That's so awesome 'bout Dana and Bob. Wow.

Do stay, this place has quite the charm to it.

Getting ready to go pick up Bob so we can meet with Cindy.

[Big Grin]

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

Which is why you didn't answer your phone when I just called?

I'm going to work now, call me later. Pretty please? If you can spare a minute? [Wave]

[ROFL] Of course I saw this thread second. [Wave] again LJ!

Dana logging in as Bob is just too funny though!

Posted by BannaOj (Member # 3206) on :

btw LJ I may be coming to Mineapolis, late summer early fall for a work-related training class. My boss said if I drive (because it is easier for him to get vehicle reimbursement than plane tickets, I could probably wangle an extra day or two off to see friends!)

Hi LJ

Glad you joined us. I don't remember from our conversations in Iowa, however -- do you actually READ OSC stuff?

Farmgirl

Posted by BannaOj (Member # 3206) on :

shhh Farmgirl we liked her so much we told her that didn't matter!!!

AJ

Posted by Dan_raven (Member # 3383) on :

It doesn't.

I just think she joined up to find her a man like her sis did.

Welcome ElJay. We are not nearly as dangerous, snide, or silly as we appear.

Well, maybe as silly.

Ok, more so.

But that's besides the point.

Posted by BannaOj (Member # 3206) on :

Hmmm LJ is currently in Minnesota and says she will be down in Iowa(for the wedding) as if she already knows when the wedding is taking place. Bob and dkw are already talking to a minister. It only takes a day to make the drive.

There is only a 3-day waiting period on marriage licenses. *counts* Thursday, Friday, Saturday

Could the wedding be this Sunday?
[Big Grin]

::stares at JaneX, Shlomo, narrativium, and adam613(who only has a handful of posts):: [Eek!]

Nope, doesn't seem to have hurt our family relationships, though it has sometimes seriously inhibited what I can post at Hatrack. [Razz]

BananananaOJ -- I would love to see you if you come to town! Woot! Just let me know when and what you want to do, I'll take care of it... and if you need space to crash after the "work is paying for it" part is over, I've got that, too.

Farmgirl, et al, I have read OSC extensively, if not exhaustively. However, Mommy Dearest read Ender's Game before any of the rest of us had ever heard of him. She then badgered us all onto the bandwagon. We have, perhaps, passed by her, but we're all way more obsessive.

Dan_Raven: Are you volunteering?

*waggleseyebrows* But seriously, folks... Dana has made no secret that she hasn't been on a date in ten years. I haven't been without a date for a significant period of time in ten years. Um, at least. And now is not a significant period of time. So no, sorry, I'm not husband-hunting.

And don't worry... I'm probably way more snide than any of you. dkw's the nice one in the family. (She doesn't get it from our mother [Big Grin] ) ((Who happens to be looking over my shoulder.)) (((And just pointed out she made me dinner, so I had better behave.))) ((((I don't do that well.))))

You know - the nice thing about Hatrack is that I get to see some reasonably sane family interactions . . .

then again, seeing as my family was anything but, who am I to say?

[Big Grin]

Welcome, ElJay!

Welcome, ElJay. The more the merrier... or weirder... it all depends on how you look at it. I prefer the latter, myself.

Make yourself comfy. I see you are nice and crisp from your burnination. Don't worry. The char marks come out of the chair with a little soda water. But, it was a good thing you weren't trying on that beautiful bride's maid dress at the time. (Isn't it a law that those dresses have to be hideous or they can't be worn at the ceremony?)

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

Actually, I trust in Dana's taste, and I'm sure she'll pick out something simple yet elegant, classy, flattering, and easy to dance in. Please!!!!!!!!!

*snicker*
