Did anyone read it? I read about this amazing series in Card's review column. I ordered the books (Amazon has it) online, as it is very difficult to find here in Brazil. Finished reading the whole series today, and found it amazing!

I'm a long-time McCaffrey fan, so it's not terribly surprising that I like the Freedom series. I really enjoyed the original short story that much later metamorphosed into the first book.

The Freedom series is entertaining and far more reminiscent of her earlier skill found in the Harper Hall and early Dragonrider series - the last few books in the Pern set have been pretty awful, however - she ought to just let go of them -
She moved out of sci-fi with The Lady which was a really good novel - you might check that one out -

Indeed, Shan, The Lady and Stitch in Snow (also not sf/f) are both quite good.

I've read the first three (the three in my library) and liked them. They're the sort of books I pick up again every so often and I've forgotten why I liked them and then I read them again and I love them again...
I only like about half the Pern books, but then again, I haven't read them for a while, so perhaps I'd like the more now. If they ever made a film of the DragonSomething Series I always wanted to be Menolly.
My favourite Anne McCaffrey by far, though, is Pegasus in Flight.

Aside from the Pern novels, I LOVED "Dinosaur Planet" and "Dinosaur Planet Survivors." I also liked the first "Sassenak" book, which is set in the same time period(if I remember correctly) as DP. She wrote that with Elizabeth Moon.
I will try these Freedom books. I haven;t read anything of hers in a while.

I second Elizabeth's recommendation to start with the first three of the Pern series ( Dragonsong, Dragonsinger and the other one..?).
I'm sure I have told this story before, but once when I was in college, I was doing a presentation on the works of Anne McCaffrey, and I sent her an email about it. She replied with a very nice email. I couldn't help myself, I sent her another. And she replied again! I sent her another email to thank her for her continued correspondence, and I told her not to feel obligated to respond, since I knew she was busy with her current project (I forget which book it was, now). She was very gracious.

I like Restoree! I reread it every so often.
Indeed, Ms. McCaffrey is most gracious. A bit more than 10 years ago, I participated (very peripherally) in a project to make her a quilt. It was done by members of a Pern fanclub I was part of, and was accompanied with a card with all our names. Well, she wrote the Weyrleader (who was in charge of both the club and mailing out the quilt) and got all our addresses.
When the holidays rolled around, we each received a box of chocolates and a box of fruit from Harry & David, courtesy of Anne herself! Coulda knocked me over with a feather. Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

I read a lot by her. I loved the Dragonsong, Dragonsinger, Dragondrums series. I read them over and over. My copies were unfortunately misplaced somewhere, which makes me sad.
I really liked her series of Brainship books. My two favorites were The Ship Who Searched, which she wrote with Mercedes Lackey, and The City Who Fought, which I can unfortunately not remember the cowriter of. -_-;;

I have to admit that I was losing interest in her work the past few years. The Acorna stuff just didn't grab me.
rivka--I'm glad I'm not the only one who re-reads Restoree . It's all romance-y, and I like that. Plus, the male protagonist is definitely *not* your standard long-haired Viking stud (not that there's anything wrong with that, mind you, just refreshing to have a change).
I like to re-read McCaffrey's early work (the early Perns) and keep up with the Pern series, but I am far more picky about her stuff as I get older. I guess I just don't have as much time to read as I used to.
