Hello, my name is Tree. I'm new here. I've been reading some of your posts and its seems like you all are a good deal older than I. So, I'll try and beef up my vocabulary as much as I possibly can. Right now I am reading a great book: The Once and Future King, by T.H. White, and its dicusses the Code of Chivalry. Chivalry: The medieval system, principles, and customs of knighthood.
The qualities idealized by knighthood, such as bravery, courtesy, honor, and gallantry toward women. A manifestation of any of these qualities. A group of knights or gallant gentlemen.
Well anyways, Merlyn brought up the subject of Might and Right. Its very confusing, and I left my book in my locker at school, so I will try my best and restate it the best I can, Its said this: "You shouldn't do things because you are able to do them, but because you ought to do them, after all penny is a penny, however much Might is exerted on either side, to prove that it is or is not Right. Might is not Right. But there is alot of Might knocking around in the world, and something has to be done about it. Its is as if people were half terrible and half nice. Perhaps they are even more than half terrible, and when they are left to themselves, they run wild. That is why we should institute a New Code of Chilvary."
So guess what I'm trying to get at is. That is still happening right now. So what do you think?

Welcome, Tree! I agree that might doesn't make right, but what does make right? How do we know what's right, and how do we decide what is really right when different people disagree on what is right?

On a religious scale, doesn't "right" equal "might" tho? There is no question to a religious person that the power of God is more powerful then those of the devil.

I wouldn't be too sure about the whole "older than you" thing... how old are you? Some of us (myself included) are pretty young!
I'm sure you'll be a good addition here, I hope you enjoy this place as much as I do!

Hey, Tree. Cool name. Dang, you're so much more coherent than I was...maybe two years ago or so, when I was thirteen. People will love you.
As to your topic, I think it's been said that this basically means that the ability to do something does not make it right. Perhaps one definition of good men would be those who, when given power, use it for right causes. Actually, I think this is a big deal in Buddhism.
