How do I do this? Is there some creepy thing that will not allow me to do this? How it's like a Harry Potter picture that is still alive after it is taken, so when I close the DVD window it goes back. It's like a window to the soul of the DVD that after the DVD is stopped it's gone.

Is it just my DVD? My computer? Me? People must be able to do it, so how?

You are falling afoul of copy protection. Do you own a Sony laptop, by any chance?

I guessed it was some form of protection, but I was hoping someone had figured out a way to get around it.

No I don't own a Sony Laptop. Is that a loophole?

There are some DVD player programs that will take screen shots for you. IIRC, zoom player will allow you to do that, but I'm not sure. There are a lot of free ones out there that almost certaily are better than the commercial one you have.

It might also be a result of your graphics chipset. On my old iMac I was unable to get screen caps of DVD playback because of... crap, I can't remember the name of the term. Interlacing? Anyway. Because of how my graphics chipset processed the stream, I was unable to take screenshots of DVD playback.

Thanks all... I think I may have a way to do it. [Big Grin]

Turn off hardware acceleration on your video card while capturing. That usually fixes it. What program do you use to watch DVDs?

Instructions here.
