As part of a continuing effort to be more productive at home, I'm wiping hdd of Windows and installing Linux.
The only modem I have is a winmodem. The last time I monkeyed around with Linux a few years a go, there wasn't any support for winmodems.
In googling around for support now, I've come across linmodems.org. However, before I wade into the FAQs and the MAN, anyone have any pointers on getting a winmodem to work with Linux. Specifically, Redhat?

I suppose you could check through the list of supported hardware at linmodems.org, but the vast majority of winmodems have no Linux-compatible drivers at all. This has been the one stumbling block for me getting much use out of my home computer right now (I'm running Fedora).

have you priced DSL lately? it's getting cheaper, and there are new technologies (SHDSL) allowing DSL signals to be repeated (though that's for business class stuff and Incumbent Local Exchange Carriers aren't really letting other carriers use that tech, yet) it's worth considering making the leap and you shouldn't have any trouble getting a NIC to work in Linux

I live out in the middle of nowhere. So, neither DSL or cable is an option.
