It occurs to me that I need a third website to use as a sort of online portfolio, now that I have animations and such that I want to show off. [Smile] My blog is way too personal and/or stupid to be sending out to possible employers, and the wedding website, while I'm very happy with it, also isn't the best place for my personal work.

So I'm thinking.... what domain name can I buy for my cool/professional site? Everything involving just "aja" is already taken, because a bazillion companies use that as their acronym.... is there some other play on my name I could use that's still available?

Okay, seriously, I just want another chance to unleash the "Party LET" font on the world. [Big Grin]

ajabog.com? All the domains are possible.

Dagonee

Ooh, or bogette.com. Though I'd like it to be a little more.... I don't know, independent? Maybe I just haven't gotten used to the "bog" name actually belonging to me yet. [Smile]

(Grr...I hate that check mark. I always check it when I only want to edit a post.)

How about ajamapay.com? It's pig latin for 'pajama', and anybody who reads it is given a financial order.

ajamation - also available in all root domains.

Posted by BannaOj (Member # 3206) on :

free associating...

bog backwards = gob --> gobstopper as in everlasting gobstoppers ---> charlie in the chocolate factory ---> oompah loompah
ajaloompah ?

eh not great

hmmm bog--> turf --> peatmoss burned in scotland

ajamoss? ajashearth? ajasturf (possibly getting better)

AJ

Aagh! I can't believe I never thought of "ajamation"!!!!

[Embarrassed]

Posted by Ayelar (Member # 183) on :

Banna, that's really funny, because you know what Mark's parents almost named him?

Peter.

Pete.

Pete Bog.

ajab? baja

bajaaja ?

I'm trying to decide if "ajamation.com" is too hokey or not. I love it, but then I'm often drawn to hokey things. [Wink] Hmmmm....

Posted by Ayelar (Member # 183) on :

"ajaloompahdoompitydoo" does have a nice ring to it.... [Big Grin]

Posted by BannaOj (Member # 3206) on :

I think ajamation is cool.

AJ

Posted by BannaOj (Member # 3206) on :

Well, this was fast! I'm now the happy owner of http://www.ajamation.com ! [Big Grin]

Thanks, guys! I'll let you know when I get it looking all snazzy. [Smile]

Wow - someone likes my ideas. Or at least one of them. Cool.

Posted by The Pixiest (Member # 1863) on :

how about Ayelamos.com

Posted by Dead_Horse (Member # 3027) on :

Imajanation? But I like ajamation, too.

Posted by Ayelar (Member # 183) on :

edit: yeah, helps to include the address... http://www.ajamation.com
[Wink]
I'd love to hear any comments or critiques on this site design... I'm sort of torn between "too big and cartoony" and "not big and cartoony enough". [Smile]

The intended audience would be someone who was looking to hire me for 3D work. Since the industry tends to be pretty silly and playful, I thought I might indulge my "big cartoon shapes ROCK!" tastes. [Wink]

And also, I'm currently working on lighting each of 5 sets for my group's animation project. The last image in the "animation" portfolio is what I did last night... does anyone feel like tearing it apart?

[Smile]

Oh, and... the reason I'd like the scenes to look good? We'll be presenting our work to the president of Pixar on Monday.

[Eek!]

Woooah! I'm glad they dumped Disney then. Now I can still like you. [Smile]

Good luck.

Thanks, Dag! Would you like a credit somewhere on the page? A web badge, perhaps? [Big Grin]

My bit of feedbackat first glance (more as impressions warrant):

On the menu bar it would be nicer if the text color changed without the blob behind it flashing. Moving my mouse over the side created a lot of distracting flashing.

Posted by Ayelar (Member # 183) on :

Oh shoot. I thought I'd fixed that. What browser/platform are you using?

Posted by peterh (Member # 5208) on :

MSIE 6.0.2800.1106

added: Windows2000

That's exactly what I'm using now, and I don't get any flashing. Is it after the page has fully loaded? Does it continue to happen? How fast is your internet connection?

(if you don't mind my asking.... [Wink] )

I like the OnClick animation on the buttons, and think the primary colors and bold shapes make a statement -- although I'm not sure whether that's "professional" or not; I don't know enough about the animation world to tell what kind of vibe they want.

One concern I have is that your page displays VERY wide at 800x600, which is still considered the standard browser size; it's okay if you want to ignore that, on the grounds that all REAL people should be using higher resolutions nowadays, but it's a lot slicker to resize your content to fit.

Yes and Yes

T1 here at work. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. [Frown]

Okay, peter, I think I know how to fix it. I'll give it a shot tomorrow, will you be around then? [Smile]

Yeah, Tom, I was originally using this bizarre formica pattern on the background, so everything had to line up just so. I'll look into resizing now.... but yes, everyone should be using windows at least 1024 wide. [Big Grin]

I don't really think it's professional-looking. I'm not sure if that's good or bad. After all, I'm not very professional-looking myself. [Wink]

I see this as a sort of placeholder site until the day comes when I have time to learn Flash and do something as cool as this. Wow.

Posted by peterh (Member # 5208) on :

I'll be around off and on and will be sure to check out your site when I am. I'm not working tomorrow, so don't expect too much though. [Smile]

Glad to help.

Darn it... too late. Oh well, I didn't actually have a suggestion for a name. I was just going to mention that GoDaddy is having a promotional deal on all .com domain names for the month of April if you, or anyone, was interested. I think it's $6.95 for the year. I am not sure if that's renewable though.

Btw, Ayelar, love the about area content. It's truly inspiring. [Taunt]

Heh. Dag doesn't like me.

lc, what did I do to give you that impression?

Ayelar - no badge needed. Is that couch entirely CGI? That's amazing. It's actually fuzzy! Or is that my eyesite suffering from 6 hours of property outlining?

pretty cool. I like the sayings under the logo that change. However, two of them confuse me - the one about vim and vigor and the one that says just like the country in China. [Dont Know]

Posted by Ayelar (Member # 183) on :

Lol, yeah, I threw the couch together in Maya while my boss wasn't looking one day. I think I people like it more because it has somewhat realistic lighting than because it's geometrically convincing. It's really just a bunch of cubes and cylinders. [Smile]

Okay, the taglines.... are silly. You have NO IDEA how many people, intelligent people, respond by saying, "Oh right! Like the country in China!" when I tell them my name. [Embarrassed]

And the vim and vigor one references Dogfish Head beer. They produced a barleywine a year or so ago and whimsically put "full of vim and vigor" under the title on the label. The BATF or FDA or some goverment agency thought that they were names of ingredients, and made them black out those two words on all of the labels.

So I guess those two are about the humor in people being idiots sometimes. [Smile]

Posted by CaySedai (Member # 6459) on :

thanks for explaining. I don't drink beer, so pretty much ignore it when I'm in the store ...

and I wonder what the heck those people are thinking - China is a country! [Dont Know] [Wall Bash] [Taunt]

Okay, sometimes I say something not quite intelligent and then bash myself mentally (what was I thinking?) [Grumble]

[Laugh] @me

Aja,

It seems to be working fine from my home PC. I'm using WinXP, MSIE6.0 and Dial-Up.

I probably won't be online again for awhile, so I thought I'd bump this and hopefully you'll not have too much trouble finding it.

Posted by Ayelar (Member # 183) on :

Well, I seem to have broken it further trying to figure out how to fix it. I'll just have to shelve this for now and work on it later. Thanks for the help!

I like you elephant, it reminds me of the time Homer Simpson tried to impersonate Ganesh to stop the Hindu wedding.
