Is the forum cleaning out archives?

I was on the "other side" to make a comment on the book Pastwatch. I did a search for threads under that side that had the title word "Pastwatch". It gave me several threads. I resurrected the most recent one (January 2004) and made my comment.

However, when I went back to see what all the other threads concerning Pastwatch were about, each time I clicked on the thread title (from the search results screen) it would say the thread no longer exists. Even though some of these are 2003 threads.

How long do they archive until they drop off? If they don't exist, why do they show up in the search?

They make no promises about threads older than 6 months, so 2003 threads would definitely be on the chopping block. I'm not really familiar with the software that runs the bulletin board, but I would guess that every so often it indexes the threads, and that your search occurred after a purge, but before the next indexing.

This version of UBB creates pages dynamically, but the principle is the same, yes.

quote:
After all, what's another gigabyte or two these days? The "not enough room" rationale is extremely shaky!

And, of course, we must be kind to yours and Amira's biographers. [Smile]

With the power of archives, I can not only remind myself to keep my own vigilant backups, I can remind myself that the "biographers" comment which I've since requoted shamelessly actually belongs to AK. So there! The irony police demand reconsideration!
