As quoted at slashdot.org:

"Next week (April 19th - 25th 2004) is National TV Turn Off Week in the USA. Among the many benefits claimed by tvturnoff.org is that 90% of the people who participate in a TV Turnoff Week successfully reduce the amount of television they watch permanently."

But the other 10 percent sure keep busy picking up the slack. [Wink]

We pretty much stopped watching TV after 09/11.* It's the computer games and videos that are going to be interesting.

* Because... my favorite show at that time was "Dark Angel" and it suddenly lost its appeal around that time.

I would .... except it's the third last episode of Friends. [Frown]

It's been national turn off your TV year for me. [Grumble]

Those 90% who reduce the amount of tv they watch instead sit in front of the computer twice as much. Is this a ploy to get more people on the internet? The world may never know.

Hnn. Television. [Grumble] There's only a small handful of good shows that aren't worthless. I say who needs television when there are... Video games...
And movies!

*Renames "turn off your tv week" to "set your vcr to record your favorite programs" week*

But, but, what if I don't have a tv to turn off? Then what do I do?

WHAT??? During the NHL playoffs??? This is the only month I watch TV and no stupid TV movement is going to stop me from watching the Habs come back and grind the Bruins beneath their mighty boots [Big Grin]

For me it's been turn off your tv week since February of 1982.

National turn off your computer week would be really tough for me. I wonder if I could even go a week. I expect not.

Mike, buy a tv and turn it off. [Wink]

I do have a TV, I guess, somewhere, but since it's not plugged in it would be kinda pointless to turn it off. I think I could not turn my computer on for a week, although that would be a lot harder. I don't think I'll try.

Dude, there is NO way our tv is going to be turned off this week.

Silly.

How can I watch tv if the tv's not on??

Seriously. We love television in our house. And I don't give a hoot. We also love to play t-ball and walk the dogs and read books.

*shrug*

Yay! TV!

I stopped watching TV a long time ago, I cut my cable off long long ago.

What's TV?

DURING BASEBALL SEASON!? [Eek!]

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

you are referring to "play it yourself on a team" baseball, right, mack? [Razz] in which case, who needs a TV? Just a mitt and a cap, maybe a ball and bat? [Big Grin]

Nice try Shan, you told me you watched movies on your fancy laptop. [Smile]

Posted by mackillian (Member # 586) on :

Shan. Am watching the Red Sox vs. the Yankees right now.

Don't mess with me, or I'll have to show you my talents with a baseball bat.

Pulllease. Everyone knows the NBA playoffs are worth five TV sets in every home.

[Frown] Too bad the Jazz didn't make it this year. Man I love that Sloan.

Damn right.

[ROFL]

*Ducks mack's baseball bat and kicks back to watch "Robin Hood and the Sorcerer" with Michael Praed.

Sticks tongue out at Beren and eats homemade apple crisp.* [Razz]

I haven't really followed basketball in a while. It just hurts too much to watch the Jazz lose every year.

*shoots television*

*lights a ciggie*

*logs onto hatrack*

Shan... don't taunt me woman! [Mad]

I love every second of every Jazz game. Like life, the important thing is the way you play and not necessarily the rewards you win.

This rag tag band of players have my respect, and love. (but I still can't pick them out of a police line up though)

Shan, you are the greatest. [Hail]

I actually still have Robin and the Sorcerer on tape. It's Eighties-tastic. I also have The Greatest Enemy and a bunch of the ones with Jason Connery. Isn't it about time for a new Robin Hood series?

I turned my TV off for about 2 years while I was addicted to EQ. I'm not sure that's a trade up.

On the other hand, with the networks canceling any good show that crops up (firefly, wonderfalls, angel, buffy) it won't be long before my TV gets turned off for me.

*sighs dreamily envisioning new Robins . . . *

*never liked Jason as well as Michael, but oh well - the Time of the Wolf was pretty cool, nonetheless - particularly Marion's get-up*

*Innocently raises eyebrows and inquires sweetly of Beren: "I don't understand - I'd never taunt you, sugar plum . . . " and grins*

I'm one of those who rarely watches TV. So I will watch the NBA playoffs without a trace of guilt (for a week or however long it takes to eliminate the Heat.)

I'm also one of those, though, who could never survive a week without the Internet . . . [Angst]

Icky...what have I told you about doubting our teams? You don't want this to turn out like the WORLD SERIES, do you?

I only watch 24, my home team's playoff games, and the news (usually merely to marvel at its inanity).
