There has been some issue as to who is whom on this board. Part of this confusion is because there are few of us openly gay men on the board and two of us are named "Karl". This isn't necessarily a critical issue, but I've already encountered more than one person attributing things to me that actually should be attributed to "Telperion the Silver", and I've been asked if I'm JohnKeats, too. This guide is to clear up any confusion.

NOTE: In the interest of not assuming too much, I'll leave it to the other homosexual men on the board to flesh out their own entries.

KarlEd: Large, homosexual, somewhat bearish man. Brownish hair with reddish highlights. Baltimore resident. Agnostic former-Mormon who served mission to Brazil. Currently in the early stages of what is hoped to be a long-term relationship with a super guy named "Chris". (Recently-about a year ago-ended a 9 year relationship with a nice but increasingly incompatible guy named "Douglas") Works in IT. Likes movies, books, science, technology, art, crafts, food, astronomy and has some interest in most other things. Can be found sporadically posting on a large variety of threads. Inexplicably disappears for weeks at a time but is always accessible via the email address in his profile.

(((KarlEd)))

*I* always knew you guuys were different people. [Big Grin]

But don't feel bad... I used to have people confuse me with Belle and other Hatrack Southern Moms. [Wink] I think I actually did a post something like this in which I explained our differences ("Belle is married to a Firefighter. I'm married to a hunk o' burning love" etc. [Big Grin] )

I think the uniqueness of each of you will become only more apparent over time, but the Field Guide is a great idea.

More KarlEd is always a great idea.

Thanks Karl and Karl. I'm real sorry for the mixup (in the other thread). Now I know the truth!

Looking forward to Telperion's self description.

Well, so far I like all the openly gay Hatrack men.

And I haven't confused KarlEd and Telperion, but then again... that's all I'm aware of.

I have to confess though - Im not sure who Caleb is. I *think* it's KarlEd... but I could be seriously wrong.

And Olivetta - I didn't even know you were a Southern belle Mom. But I like you! [Smile]

Caleb is "JohnKeats" or "CalebVarns". For the record, "KarlEd" is only "KarlEd". I never post under any other name unless it's an obvious joke.

And neither Karl is to be confused with Mooselet, who is, so far, asexual.

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

Hey! I just had a thought--my middle name is Carl. Does that mean that I'm bisexual?

Posted by imogen (Member # 5485) on :

Ok. Thanks. I might start calling Caleb Karl just for kicks - but at least *I'll* know it's a joke.

And as for Frisco... Tsk! We all know Superstation is the asexual one.

Edit: In a good way. In that he's a baby. I just thought it was funny after Frisco's comment.

YAY! I've finally been thwapped by Mack! Now if I can just get her to flip me off...

Hey Mack! are you JohnKeats?

I'm sure I'm not.

KarlEd has a landmark that should be in the archives that I remember reading one of the first things when I got here. Telperion is the subject of "Ask a 27 year old male homosexual". Caleb participated in some gay marriage threads back in November.

Frisco, are you just really sexually repressed? Rhetorical, this thread isn't about you. I just think that remark about mooselet is unfunny. P.S. and I just saw some innuendo you made on the OSC side.

Jim-Me, a bird from Mac is like an "I love you", meaning that it doesn't mean anything if you have to ask for it. [Wink]

And for the record, I can't believe I'm the only gay male to post here so far. I mean, I put "gay" in the title and everything.

Ah, so what you are saying is I have to be less obvious about my whingeing, groveling attempts at fishing for middle-fingers?

Not a Karl or Carl in my name or within 200 yards of me. Last name is Varns, though, not VarnEs (honestly, does it *sound* like there's an E in there? Or do people just think about Varnes & Noble booksellers?).

I answer to Caleb, Keats and John. Usually in that order. I had a landmark thread @ 4,000 in which I decided to put the Keats screenname away for good, only to later pull it back out of the closet.

<buh-duhm ching>

Mostly because people had learned to start calling me Caleb again and this one had most of my posting history on it, even though 'Caleb Varns' registered first.

Mack only wishes see was me.

Conversely, FlyingCow does NOT wish for Mack to be me, even though the two of us made quite a team at the Trivial Pursuit Game of the Century, which makes up for about 1/3 of my Hatrack fame.

As far as the Field Guide goes, I generally defy description and am not quite ready to put myself down in 200 or fewer words. I'll give it some thought. Maybe.

Mooselet's legal name is Carl (his real name is Mooselet, of course), and when Mama was pregnant with Superstation her OB was Dr. John Keats. A pattern? A coincidence? Hmmm....

-=Who is this, how you say, Telperion?=-

Well, my real name is Karl J. Wolf. Live in Detroit, Mi. I'm a GWM, 6' tall, long blond hair, hazel eyes, thin/average build. Was raised Catholic and went to Catholic grade and high schools. Became agnostic around 18 (after I was Confirmed no less). Heroes are Carl Sagan, King Jr., Steven Hawkins, Abe Lincoln, and others. Studied at Alma College, Mi. A student of history, culture, philosophy, communications, and the fine arts (especially singing). Work a day job as a corporate security officer and then run off to play music and hang out in the Goth subculture. A self proclaimed Tolkien scholar and fanatic. Rocky Horror fan (seen it over 200 times and acted on stage 5 times). I usually post to Hatrack from about noon to 5pm. [Smile] Lovin every minute of it.

I'm really really confused now. I don't get it. So then Gay people are supposed to post here? ~.~;;
Well I guess I just let everyone know that
I'm 17, straight, a very pretty girl, and I've got brown curly hair. Its not like anyone cares, but I just felt like saying it... [Razz]

Posted by Farmgirl (Member # 5567) on :

I think that is what originally confused me -- Telperion at one point was posting in some thread, and someone, in their reply to him, said something like, Well, Karl....etc and called him by name.

Thusly, I thought it was the same person as KarlEd (although I guess I wasn't absolutely sure at that point that his real name was Karl).

Whenever people start using someone's IRL name in a thread, it can sometimes be confusing to those who haven't met them yet or got it all figured out.

Things will be much better after Chicago -- put more names with faces.

Welcome to Hatrack, Altįriėl of Dorthonion. [Smile]

I think that there was just some confusion as to who was who, now that Hatrack is getting bigger and bigger. It's fine to post wherever you want, regardless of gender/race/sexual preference/political persuasion/religious status or whatever.

I'll bump the latest FAQ, just in case it could be of some use. Meanwhile, I hope you stick around and let us get to know you.

Posted by pooka (Member # 5003) on :

In case you are really new, while the 27 year old homosexual thread is hosted by Telperion, it was started by beverly who is not any sort of gay male as far as I am aware.

Frisco's probably just not had much attention, pooka. That, or Spring is making him feel frisky.

Knowing that Mooselet's legal name is "Carl", I don't think there was anything out of line at all about Frisco's joke.

Posted by pooka (Member # 5003) on :

I didn't realize that. I guess I'm not "with it" enough to appreciate Frisco's sense of humor. P.S. I didn't say I was offended, I said it was unfunny. Why are you offended by me saying it was unfunny?

Hey Frisco --l--. Ah, now I feel better.

I figured that if remarking on something indicates offense, the people who said I was offended must feel offended. [Dont Know] Sorry for the distraction from the thread. So does that mean I can't name my garage band "frisky Frisco"?

Posted by Da_Goat (Member # 5529) on :

Pooka, I'm offended that you would think that the people who said you were offended must feel ofefnded, because of a remark that indicated offense.

Highly offended. To tears, even. [Smile]

Posted by pooka (Member # 5003) on :

I would like to state, for the record, that I don't know whether Frisco is gay or not.

P.S. I would wink, but I really don't know. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Oh darn. Too bad the screen name "digging_holes" is taken.

Not possible. If Frisco was gay he couldn't have been able to resist coming on to me. And unless he's just really bad at it and I haven't noticed, that hasn't happened.

I can just imagine Frisco wondering why, if he's known to not be gay, more women haven't had the kind of response to his charms the men have had.

The guys have it right, though. If I were gay, I'd have been all over Karl and Caleb like white on rice.

And now that you mention it, Stormy, I am kinda curious. I think the ladies must just be shy.

-------------------------------

pooka, you're easily the most easily offended person on the forum. Maybe you should just skip over all my posts, because I can't claim to be one of the most sensitive. And not to spoil your armchair psychologist career, but not everyone who talks openly of sex is repressed. My post on the other side just happens to be the Best. Edit. Ever.

I picked South America as an opposite of sorts to North America by virtue of north-south, rather than along racial lines. And Africa popped into my head, but in an earlier version, I used Antarctician. Guess I should have stuck with that.

I know, what I don't like is that most people don't take it that way, exept geographically. We're more American than American hemselves because weve got native blood in our veins and not just european. The best of both worlds!
