A friend and I have a radio show, and our theme for next week is songs that make you *sigh and look romantically off in to space... but for the purpas of reading Im just going to say swoon.
Anyway, I could really use some suggestions... for example "drops of jupiter" would be one of these types of songs. what ever your doing you just sort of pause and and feel your heart melt...

I don't know about swooning, but there's one that always makes me cry. It starts with "I see skies of blue, and clouds of white..." and the chorus is "...and I think to myself, 'what a wonderful world'..." Does anyone know what it's called and who sang it?

Pankhaj Udhas: "chand jaisa rang hai tera" - it's a Hindi song, the title means "you look like the moon" and it's beautiful. I'm listening to it now. Another great Hindi song, from a film but I can't remember the film is "So Saal Pehele" - the English version of the lyrics are "A hundred years ago, I was in love with you, I am in love with you today and I will stay in love with you tomorrow." It's a beautiful duet and my aunt and uncle had it as the first dance at their wedding.
I'll second the David Gray, Louis Armstrong, Faith Hill, Billie Myers and Belinda Carlisle choices.
There are a couple of John Denver ones that ridiculously do it for me: My Sweet Lady and Leaving on a Jet Plane.

Yup, "What a Wonderful World" will do it every time, but for 2 reasons. My mom used to be involved with a great man, who dressed up as Santa at Christmas and went to children's hospitals and sang Al Jolson and Louis Armstrong renditions. Every time I hear that song, I cry because he was one of the good who died young (54). I was watching "Good Morning, Vietnam" with my ex-husband, who spent two tours in SE Asia, and when that song played, with all the irony of that story, we sat there like to babies, crying out eyes out for our own reasons. Funny, the husband is no longer in the picture, but I still cry when I hear that song, for both of us.
Okay, but on the more romantic side, what about John Denver's "For You" for swooning? It's okay to think John Denver was cool, even in the 90's. "For you alone, only for you." Whoa. If someone sings that to you and means it, it's a match made in Heaven.
Have a wonderful evening everyone.

Well, we took it a little far. Our son, Matthew, is named for the John Denver song. I think there are probably a few dozen of his songs that cause swooning.
He was even more amazing in the later stages of his career. We were part of the Windstar folks right around the time of his death, and it was really cool to go online and chat with him on the odd occasion when he was checking in on the chat. I cried my eyes out when he died, because I was in NJ visiting family when it happened, and none of my siblings understood the connection for us, while the rest of the family was glued to the TV. watching every development.
Oh yeah, then there's the part of family history in which the real actual Doc (my man) provided the building materials to build the Denver house in Aspen. A tenuous but comfortable link for us.

Marc Cohn "I Hope That I Don't Fall In Love With You"
The title doesn't sound like it, but if you listen to the words, it is great! I found it on the Prince and Me soundtrack. In fact, most of the songs off of that CD make me sigh, but that could be because it just makes me think of the movie and how it made me mad that I didn't have a super cute prince to come and marry me...

I don't know if it counts as a swoon, but I freeze for a moment and get chills on "Precious Things" when Tori Amos does that little breath thing.
"Crash Into Me" - Dave Matthews Band
"Heads, Carolina" - Jo Dee Messina. Have no idea why on this one, but it does, as does "She's in Love (with the Boy)" buy Trisha Yearwood.

Also, Springsteen's Secret Garden - it just pricks at my tear glands. It's the only song of his I can't find on iTunes, though.

Let's see... what else?
Savage Garden - Crash and Burn Annie Lennox - Into the West U2 - Love is Blindness Khaled - Aïcha Cheb Mami - Ana Oualache Shakira - Pienso en Ti (totally acapella - very haunting) ...and just because it's one of those songs that tugs at some very old heartstrings - the steel guitar introduction to On the Verge by Collin Raye can bring me to tears.

I can just say "everything that raia said" plus I must agree to Unchained Melody. Oh and Add "Memory" from cats on but minus the lyrics, when we play it at orchestra concerts.
"The Dance" is very good, but because we always have a dance the last night at 4-H camp, and the last two years as a councilor the guys I danced with during that song have both died, it makes me cry.

The Promise Ring - A picture postcard
come on any song with THESE lyrics you cannot deny:
If I put my hands to your stomach, or put my lips to your hand...Take me home, keep your eyes on the road. So don't forget to kiss me if you're really going to leave. Couldn't you take the second bus home? Couldn't you just take me with you?

Resistor- Brave Saint Saturn (I love this group and I can't find anything else by them! It's so horrible!)
I believe (when I fall in love)- Stevie Wonder

Stevie Wonder is very swoonish

Art Garfunkel, "I Only Have Eyes For You" A slow, achingly beautiful version. She will MELT! On the Best of Art Garfunkel album.

quote:don't forget Jawbreaker's sluttering. and accident prone. maybe not swoon worthy but damn good
Ben, I thought that the angst and bitterness of Sluttering (May 4th) was a little on the negative side of love. That being said, it is one of the best pieces of music ever. The palm muting is incredible, the word play that Blake employs in lines like:
quote:I'd saw through your wrist to find a better trap that fits. I'd saw through your traps to find a better you. A part of you that lasts.
I saw through your trap and into my own wrists. Saw we were through, red ribbons spill to blue: a sight to sore your eyes.
Just amazing.
As for Accident Prone, again is an amazing song with dense layers of guitars and great lyrics, it is more on the failure of the relationship.
I must comment that reading your posts has lead me to believe that you have some good taste in music.

I have about twice as much music as Im going to need, but better too much then not enough!
Some one asked what kind of radio station i worked at. It is a community station, so nether school or commerial. The station is: WFHB 98.1 or 91.3 FM And for those who care to lisen, it's from 5-6:30 Saterday. I believe you can lisen to it online too.
Something Different's "Songs That Make You Go Sigh... (or swoon)" show is bound to go well.
