Elijah Wood's fingernails! Is he a fingernail biter or what? Everytime I see the closeups of him fumbling the ring between his dirty stumpish fingers, I want to grab a brillo pad and some handsoap and clean the little fellow up. Somebody tell Mr. Wood to stop shaving his head into a mohawk and better direct his funds to be spent on Thum or Stopsit.
Other than that, I love it. Them. Whatever.

I remember reading in an interview or maybe the commentary on one the discs, but he says he is a nail biter and when the director mentioned Frodo had to have icky nails, he said that wouldn't be a problem.

I would rather see him be a cheek biter or a lip chewer or a hair twister than a nail biter.
Heck, maybe he could whack Sam or Smeagol with Sting (just the flat of the blade, mind you) whenever he is feeling a little out of sorts.
P.S. I liked the link and did notice Saruman's claws. His nails reminded me of a witch's.
But concerning nails in general, Gandalf has impeccable nails. His even look manicured. I dunno. Maybe a wizard has more wisdom than a halfling, or more personal hygeine. I just found myself looking out for shots of other character's hands to see what shape their nails were in. I mean, really! Do all hobbits work at Jiffy Lube on the side?
But I am not even going to get started on a Hobbit's feet...

Valentine, it seems the creator of that website has just a little too much time on his/her hands. Why would anyone what to know about all the acne problems of the LOTR cast?
I also remember hearing in the commentary about Elijah's nail biting. I think it adds to the reality of the movie. How often did the fellowship have time to stop for a manicure.

I would just like to say, because it sort of fits here and because I'm feeling very smug about it, that I have not chewed a single fingernail in over THREE WEEKS.
It's driven me crazy like a little sissy bitch, but I now have hands akin to those of a female.
And I paint them deep, blood red. Which makes me feel like a sexy beast.

Ralphie, I applaud your efforts and amazing self-control. My intern was a nail biter her entire internship with me (5 years) and has finally stopped biting them. She can actually grow nails and paint them. It is quite strange and wonderful to see.
However, she DOES NOT paint them deep red as you do. I think I am relieved? as I might not pay attention to my work? Does that make sense?
Anyway, Saruman: I do apologize. You are a fine wizard and a scholar. I drink a horn of mead to you!

Yeah, so Elijah Wood bites his nails until they say "Eeep!" and retreat back into his fingertips so the fingers grow out around 'em. And, yeah, it's nasty.

I once managed to not pick my nails for several weeks when I first got this engagement ring. Having people constantly look at my hands was pretty good incentive to have them look not-gross.
But that passed, and they're worse than ever now. Ugh. I think this is one bad habit I'll never be able to kick.
(and nail-biting is gross! nail-picking is so much more subtle and effective. )

I confess, I'm a nail-biter. When I saw Frodo's hands in the movie, I just thought...thank goodness, another adult who bites their nails. However, mine are clean, but then again, I usually don't go on adventures with elves.
