On the writing front, I've gotten a dismal amount written.

But I've done a lot of other things, including planning a trip up to Salem, Oregon and Olympia, Washington. Last September we had a similar trip tentatively planned, but the plug got pulled because we couldn't get time off work. So I waited until we had the vacation scheduled at work to put up the news here.

We will be in Salem from about May 30th to about June 5 or 6, at which time we'll travel on up to Olympia and stay there for two or three days. Things are pretty open right now about what we'll be doing when, but there are several things we do need to fit in. And one of them is Hatrack. I would love to meet some NW Jatraqueros if anyone wants to.

oooh, that's right during my dead week and finals week, so anything vacationish would be very tricky, but I'll see how things develop with my term papers.

I'll send my secretary.

We're leaving town the weekend of June 3-6. However, I will be in town Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of that week. I'll be working during the day, but I may be able to swing something Sunday, May 30th or Wednesday night, June 2nd.

Sunday, May 30th would be preferable. Would you be able to do something the day you arrived? We could meet for dinner that night in Salem, though I have no idea where to go. [Smile]

Would you want to stop in Portland some time that week? If we did something Wednesday night, I could certainly show you around PDX.

What about the weekend after, NWers? I'll start my trip either the sixth or the seventh, god willing, and I assume I'll need a week or two to get up to one of your lonely wet cities. I'm thinking of tapping Oregon then heading east, but I can make it to Salem if that's the big in-spot.

Though I probably do traffic with the Devil, so I'm kinda nervous about showing up there.

Are you heading up I-5? We might be able to arrange a gathering in Salem, but of course it would be more convenient if you could stop in at my hometown [Wink]

I know the Portland area fairly well, at the very least to the point that it isn't quite a touristy place for me, though I suspect you know the area far better than me and would know of some interesting places.

We won't be flying in, we'll be driving so the day we arrive probably won't be a very good day to get together. But there is the possibility we'll be coming in on Saturday. Wedensday would be good. That is the 2nd. How is it for other people? Sunday remains a possiblity. If more people can meet then, then we'll make more effort to arrive on Saturday.

What I meant by not touristy is that I don't mind about being shown around. I had already planned on driving up there to meet y'all since I think it is probably more central to everyone. So meeting in Portland on any day is fine. Meeting in Salem is fine. Woodburn, Beaverton, Tigard, wherever... [Smile]

*is bummed* I'm going to be in California and Florida for all those dates. I would have loved to get to meet you and your family Amka! Have a great trip!

I just realized that Monday is labor day, and it's a bank holiday. This means I have the day off of work, and that opens up a whole lotta possibilities.

I can do breakfast, lunch or dinner that day. Or all three. [Smile]

Hey, Monday is good for us too. We don't want to go to the coast then because it will be too crowded.

Memorial Day is family vacation time, so I'm afraid Monday won't work very well. I can check and see when on Monday we'll be driving back, though. It's possible that we can at least stop in on a gathering.

Oh, man. I just talked to Dan, and we have other arrangements going on Monday, already. I'm almost afraid we'll be booked for the week, since we're going out of town that weekend, I have to work all week and the one day I have available is already spoken for.

I'll be really sorry to miss you, Amka. [Frown]

If you're still in Salem on the 30th, I would love to do dinner in or around Portland if that's a possibility. I could probabyl meet you guys somewhere, I'm not sure what your transportation is like. I'd LOVE to meet you though, so let me know what you think. [Smile]

Hey folks, I will still be around the Northwest until about the 10th of June.

Ralphie: surely you have lunch when you are at work. We could do lunch. [Smile]

Shigosei: I'm not limited to memorial day.

Narnia: The 30th is possibly when I will arrive. If that is true, then I probably won't be up to driving back up to Portland for dinner as it will be an eight hour drive that day. But if that is the date that a lot of people settle on I'll try to make sure we arrive on the 29th.

Well if you're around until the 10th, let us know where you're planning to be...we could probably work something up where more people could come!!

We will be arriving in Salem on May 29th. We'll be leaving Salem probably June 5th, perhaps a couple days later and travelling to Olympia, Washington. We'll be leaving there probably June 11th, perhaps the 10th.

Would you like to have dinner here in Oly and meet my wonderful brilliant boy-child? We could have NW JAtraqueros dinner/some fun activity here . . . [Smile]
