My first ever birthday present from him. That I can remember, I'm sure there was one on my 1st birthday, he didn't actually leave until I was 18 months old.

He sent me a pin. An American flag pin, you know the type that you can buy for 39 cents at the checkout of any discount store?

Except - this is the pin that was under his flight helmet during his tour in Iraq. It's been to about six different countries, and flew with him everywhere he went.

I love it. I can't remember being prouder to own something, except perhaps my wedding and anniversary rings. I don't know why - but I guess I feel like he was probably carrying that pin to keep himself, or maybe to give to his wife. Certainly wasn't thinking of giving it to me, we didn't make contact until after he got back. somehow it became more important to give it to me than to keep it for its original intended purpose.

Oh, and he'll be here at my house on May 28.

That's really cool and very sweet, Belle.... I really hope all goes well for you.

I think I mentioned about my girlfriend in a previous thread about your dad.

She was brought up without even knowing that she and her older brother had a different father from her 4 other siblings. When she was 21 she discovered that her father was actually her step-dad. Meeting her real father made all her answers about herself fall into place - he looked like her, acted like her, had the same sense of humour....

I've met both her mother/step-dad and father/step-mum. I can say without qualification that her father is a genuinely wonderful guy. Despite them not knowing each other for most of her life, they definitely have more in common than the other side of her family does.

Good luck!

Belle! I'm so glad.

I posted a few weeks ago asking how things were going, but you never saw the thread, I guess...or you didn't have anything to say.

Anyway, I'm glad this is happening for you.

I didn't see it Bob, I wouldn't have ignored you. I'm only on sporadically these days. Something about a big visit coming up and trying to get the house ready....

During the summer I'll prolly be on more.

[Smile] Hey, let me know if you'll be up for a visit, since Robert may be having a big B-day party again this year.
