I know it's crazy... but maybe it's crazy enough to work.

I wonder if we'll be reading about this in Snopes sometime next year...

Strange. No one had to tell the people on the "Island of the Blue Dolphin" about sex.

That is HILARIOUS. WOW! [Laugh]

Kat? I'm thinking of the movie with Brooke Shields. Or is that the "Return" movie? I read the book, but I could have sworn there was a dude involved too.

I know someone who was convinced in 7th that conception occured when the man placed wrapped his arm around the female's back He knew all about the egg and the sperm etc. but that was the extent of physical contact ever shown in the sex ed tapes they made them watch in parochial school. Of course his father had decided to have "the talk" while driving, and apparently when the son got to that point of the explanation of how the sperm was transferred through the man's arm to the woman's back his father nearly drove off the road!

See, I feel like sex would be a natural consequence, especially after being together that long. You'd think they must have slept in seperate beds or something. Even kissing eventually leads to other things. Did they have no physical contact at all?

Kat: Maybe. I'm not sure now.

I know one man that this problem might have applied to, though someone did finally explain it in his late teens.

P.S. Prior to that, he was aware of the invisible cells involved and thought they were like germs, which is why a couple sleeping together might wind up pregnant.

lmao

I wonder what the couple was trying before they figured it out?

If they had grown up on a farm, this could never have happened.

Posted by PSI Teleport (Member # 5545) on :

I don't know. My mom said seeing horses "get it on" at the farm convinced her that she would NEVER let a man come near her, because he might do something like that to her. She didn't know that they were making baby horses. She was just worried that human males have an organ comparable in size to the horses', and she was scared to death.

You would think they would have figured it out. I mean, what did they think *ahem* "they" were for? [Big Grin]

Seems like after that long in fertility clinics, the basic "birds and the bees" would've come through to them. [Dont Know]

PSI, that is "Blue Lagoon." Scary thing is, I own that movie. Scarier thing is, it's on VIDEODISC. (you know, those record-like things you slam into a slot, yank out the cover, and it plays? Then when it's half over, you slam the cover back in, yank out the disc, flip it, and reinsert it to watch the second half.) Hmm...looking at my description of videodisc usage, this response BELONGS in the "Try Sex" thread. Or maybe in the "out of context" thread. [Smile]

Ya know, this sets off all my "Urban Legend" alarms. I don't buy it.

-No verifiable source listed. Ananova is the only one who has this story.
-"Lubeck" is spelled with an umlaut.
-The journalism is somewhat suspect.
-These people are supposed to live in Germany, where sex education begins at 5 or 6. Were they homeschooled or what? Kept away from all other Germans, and never allowed to watch TV or read?
-Even very restrictive religious communities usually expect men to know how to father children, even if the women aren't supposed to know. After eight years, no one asked them where the babies were? No uncle or grandmother or BIL took one of the aside and explained matters?

I can't swallow it. Nope. I bet it will be on Snopes very soon. (And apparently there was a similar story in France in the 60's.)

I've heard of couples who hadn't had sex even after a few years of marriage, but even they knew what sex was.

Posted by cochick (Member # 6167) on :

guess they don't have a TV

There was an Arab couple awhile back who had the same problem.

They were having sex, but it turns out they were *ahem* doing it wrong.

I thought Boon was talking about her last-ditch effort to induce labor. [Blushing]

A friend of mine from college didn't have sex for several months after getting married. I was also friends with her cousin-- as a matter of fact, we were two of her bridesmaids. Every month or so the cousin would call me and say, "They still haven't done it yet!"

This was not information I wanted to know. But even in that case, they knew what it was and erm, how to do it (more or less, though they were both chaste and very religious).

I think I smell an Urban Legend.

Posted by mr_porteiro_head (Member # 4644) on :

I have to say that the evidence for this being an urban legend is pretty convincing.

Posted by Richard Gere (Member # 6534) on :

I heard this years ago. It's an urban legend.

Of course, I don't have any room to talk.

It's Ananova, people.

I'm still with the people who wondered what they had tried as a means of reproduction. I'm wondering if they thought it was through kissing, hence the whole you may now kiss the bride thing in a wedding ceremony, but other than that, I cannot think of any possibility which does not contradict this statement

We are not talking retarded people here
