So, one of my friends is graduating high school this year (his party thing is on Saturday). He's 18 or 19, lives in the Phoenix area, and works at a Preschool. What should I give him? Keep in mind I'm working with a limited budget (At least under $50).

And what have you yourselves given graduates?

All I got when I graduated was a lousy set of luggage to take to college. [Frown]

Most of the high schoolers I know are happy with all the cash they can get. Not very personal, but it makes 'em happy.

Give him a nice kick in the pants, and welcome him to the real world ^_^

I love my luggage! For <=50 buying a laundry basket and stocking it with supplies for the dorm/ apartment is good if the person will be moving out on their own. I did this for my brother and put a broom, laundry detergent, small ironing board, tupperware, and other such stuff inside the basket.

Just don't buy one of those special occasion inspirational books. I got a ton of those and never read them. I suppose some people like them but I think it's not the norm.

I got a surprising large amount of money for my college graduation. I was floored!

But then, I was the first (and so far only) of the grandchildren to graduate, so I guess it isn't so wierd. It was such a pleasant surprise - especially since my dad demanded that I get and send out announcements to every we knew at my expense. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out why anyone would care.

Have you considered a leather bound journal and some advice?

Posted by Da_Goat (Member # 5529) on :

Well, see, I would give advice and a kick in the rump (as if there's a difference), but it would be coming from someone younger and less mature than him.

Get him plastic silverware. LOTS of it.

Do none of you travel? Actually I got my luggage as a gift for graduating from college. I've used it so many times since then. Maybe I've gotten boring as I've gotten older.

Oh or if you don't think they'll like a leather journal you can get a plain black one and decorate it with paint or something. I have even done collages and then covered them with contact paper.

most of my friends are getting a journal, a ookmark, and chocolate. Over the last few weeks my mom has had several people ask what I wanted, mostly cash or little things.

See Katie, I am NOT the only one. My parents have been nagging at me about graduation announcements...but I'm REALLY sure that no one would care, so I drag my feet.

For any graduate though, high school or college, it's all about CA$H CA$H CA$H. [Smile]

A week ago I was at my friend's house when the power went out from a storm. The only candles he had in his apartment were a graduation gift from his aunt. They were probably the most useful gift he got, as all the cash was spent on items that do not last very long.

Cash, something for college, or candles would be my suggestions.

I got golf clubs. They were cheap ones, but I still doubt they cost less than $50, so that idea's probably out. How about one golf club?

Cheap present, you ask?

<Pepe> I need to know if college consists of a lot of ****ing, or is that just in movies and is it like, masturbation all the time? This decides whether I buy fifty boxes of condoms, or fifty boxes of Kleenex.

[Frown] Dang!!! You mean I missed out on tons of cash by not sending out graduation announcements when I graduated from college?! Who would've thought it'd be good for cash? It's probably a bit too late to try to do it now, since I graduated 5 years ago.....Darn!

I graduate from HS this Sunday.

So far I've gotten cash from a couple relatives, and my Dad's giving me a full-paid trip to Europe (I believe it includes expenses while in Europe as well, but I'm not sure) that I can choose to use whenever I want.

Can anyone say Eurotrip next year? :-D

I got an Australian Outback hat...and I love it...but that's just me...and seeing as I didn't expect to get anything at all, it was really nice...

and it is certainly better than giving me luggage as I almost never travel at all, and am only going to travel for a purpose that is strictly my own for the first time this summer...and it will likely be the last time for a while as school costs money...
