I think the apocalypse must be right around the corner, because I pretty much agree with all three of OSC's film reviews in the most recent column.

He's wrong about Dennis Miller, though. Miller's only the SECOND best political interviewer on television. Jon Stewart is #1.

Jon Stewart is funny, but I wouldn't call him a good political interviewer. But he *does* get kudos for trying.

You wouldn't? Have you SEEN some of his political interviews?

I ask this because Stewart is, to date, the only interviewer I've ever seen who's been able to get political flacks to deviate from their talking points. He's also the only person I've ever seen who, when interviewing a highly placed member of the administration, could get away with this sentence: "I'm sorry, but, um, what you just said....Really, don't you think -- and I'm sure we all agree, so please don't take this the wrong way -- that that was pretty much, well, full of crap?"

He gets away with this, of course, through exaggeration; by asking Karen Hughes if she thinks Cheney really IS an evil psychotic cyborg, he permits her to voice her actual opinion.

Yes, I have seen a *lot* of Stewart's political interviews.

And you make a good point, in getting people to actually talk, instead of just recite.

I love jon stewart.

And you are correct, the he does give them a chance to voice their own opinions.

I agree, Jon is the man. He downplays the fact that he is really up on the news, too. He reads a lot and is well versed in what is going on (as any comedian should be, I suppose). His is the REAL "no-spin" zone.
