A friend of mine who recently got engaged is having a party tomorrow night in Long Beach (wake-up westsiders). It's a 70's theme and I'm without the groovy threads (retrospecifically speaking). Can anyone make a recommendation for shopping ventures tomorrow? I'm not much of a thrift-shopper, so I'm not sure where the goodies might be. Venice?

You are from near LA, correct?

You could try Le Chic Botique at 6432 Santa Monica Blvd in LA. (323-461-STAR) . Also,
quote:
The American Cancer Society's Discovery Shop in Burbank is having" Vintage" sale. Find choice pieces from the '50's, '60's, '70's and new wave 80's by Lanvin, Dior, Burberry, Peter Max, Vera, and more on Saturday 6/19 and Sunday 6/20. 500 N. Victory Blvd. 818.841.2969.
However, if you are on a budget (or need a broader selection of sizes and styles), try Goodwill's, St. Vincent DePaul's, or the Salvation Army.

Here's a list of names and addresses of thrift stores near Santa Monica. Were I parked closer to you, I'd give you a rundown of pros & cons.

Have fun. [Smile]

I would go and try on a variety of things, bringing a fashion-savvy friend along if you can. Other than that, go with what makes you most comfortable. (Now why do I think that might just be the wacky, anyhow? *grin)

fashion-savvy friend from the 70s?

That would be Chewbacca on a cheap tee, but I reckon those are hard to find. I'd settle for some flared trousers, a ridiculous collar, a 'fro wig and maybe a medallion for that special sparkle?

you think I can wrangle those up?

A nice 70's touch for guys is to wear your shirt unbuttoned to the navel and then glue a massive piece of fake fur to your chest.

If I tear my blouse off, will you dance on the polka dots? "You were in it for your beauty too ..."

Knock 'em spangalicious, sugar. Orion gleaming over your shoulder like a big fat cigar.
