Has anyone read this OSC short story? I read it today when I was at barnes and nobel. It is very good...though it is darker that what I have read of OSC in the past. I really think I might pick up the anthology book it was in.

Maps in a Mirror, I presume?

Get it. It rules. Kingsmeat will disturb you. Oh and Eumenides as well.

I remember not liking Dogwalker the first time because of how disturbing I felt it was. On the other hand, I liked Kingsmeat =)

I put little pencil dots in the index when I finished a story. I read the Tales of Dread (dread?) stories last. I think I even waited a few years to do it.

I'm glad they did a reprint. Though it was fun having the only copy among my friends.

I really can't stand Euminides. Kingsmeat is good, although I have a problem with the ingestion of a breast. Since it's basically just a lump of fat, that's not really a healthy choice.

Oh, I bought all the the small paperback versions of each section of Maps in a Mirror before I finally found the entire collection at a used book store. I'm trying to figure out if I should go ahead and sell the seperate ones. I really only need one copy of each story.

ya, maps in a mirror.

I thought about hunting down a 1st ed, but they are to expensive...so now I think I will just get a normal one at amazon

while it was disturbing...it sucked you in. I picked up a OSC book because I wanted to read a good short story after reading a bad story in this months asimov. I figure they can balance each other out. I figured OSC would be a good place to find a good short story. [Smile] The bad one in question was some weird thing about people addicted to dragonsongs, I don't remember the author of it. It is rather annoying when you know a lot of people have written kickass stories that have been rejected, and you see something that was accepted that is just bad. Then again, maybe I just have strange taste.

I have to agree with PSI on Eumenides. It's weird, and gruesome, which is a combination that I usually enjoy, but for some reason the story just didn't click with me.

My favorites from Maps are Fat Farm, Prior Restraint, Unaccompanied Sonata and In the Doghouse.

I always enjoy "Fat Farm" and "Deep Breathing Exercises". And "A Thousand Deaths".

My problem with "Euminides" is the insanity factor. For some reason I can't stand stories where people are in a situation where they lose it. It's like, I can't relate to them anymore, so I lose the thing that sucked me in.

edit: EUMENIDES. Whatever, I can't spell.
