Scroll down for news after Sept 8, 2001

I seem to recall there are a few jatraqueros in the area. I won't know until mid afternoon whether it is a go or not, but if I were coming I'd be in the vicinity of AZ 101 and the Pima Rd. Princess Dr. Area. I think my husband will be in meetings from 9-3, if we go. I was hoping to find a mall or a park somewhere near there. I don't know if we would just roast in a park. At a mall I would maybe find a bookstore where I can camp my kids and read some pages from Rachel and Leah . I have a car, even if folks can get together on such short notice if you know of such an establishment drop me an email.

Yay! Pooka comes to Phx!

Yes dear, you will roast at the park (unless you go there at maybe 3am). This weekend it's supposed to be 105-110 and humid. [Smile]

There are tons of malls. Looks like you're actually going to be in Scottsdale (Princess Dr. - I'm guessing he's going to the Princess for a business conference - is in Scottsdale, near Pima/Loop 101). I'm not really familiar with Scottsdale, but I'm know there are places (albeit a bit ritzy or snotty, depending on where you go) where you could go with your kids. [Smile]

I live about 20 miles south of there, in Chandler.

Okay, let me mention this to my husband. We're not too far away, but I think he may be needing the car that day. It's not too far to travel, but it's too far for him to drop me off and return.

I think he can do his thing anytime tomorrow.

Oh, and Chandler is better for me, since I'm so far south. There's the Mills Mall down there.

I could come to you, if I'm going at all. If you have a copy of Rachel and Leah. Just kidding! Or some air conditioned venue nearer you.

P.S. I was bummed that we didn't work something out when PSI was in Utah for the 4th, but I kind of forgot about it until after. How did that go?

I do, and you can, but I'm in Tucson. You'd have to plan for an hour or hour and a half drive, since you will be way up there.

Okay, honesty moment. Something DID happen in Utah while I was there, but I missed all the discussion on it until it was too late, and my cousin was in charge of the vehicle, so I just thought "Forget it". The whole trip was a huge hassle and it would have been painful for everyone involved if I had tried too hard to get there. (Let's not even get started on the less than six hours of sleep my kids got every night.)

Depending on when people want to meet, I might be able to (I do need to come into work for a little while tomorrow).

Everyone interested email me contact info as I will have to spend the next several hours madly packing [Big Grin] That is to say, the trip is a go.

So I have from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (the time span my husband is at this conference at Scottsdale). Who has a car? Who is working? Where is ArchWard located? What location works best? If we meet someplace in between is that better? Could I pick folks up in Scottsdale and drive to Tucson? Lemme know, I'll check in periodically until about 7:30 tonight.

Posted by PSI Teleport (Member # 5545) on :

Architraz (Feyd) is near where you'll be.

You know, there's a Cracka' Barrel halfway between Tucson and Phoenix. I love any excuse to get some Cracka' Barrel.

If you do the Cracker Barrell thing, I wouldn't be able to make it. [Frown] I have to be at work by 6:30 tomorrow night and the place I work is right on the border between Scottsdale and Tempe.

Posted by ludosti (Member # 1772) on :

I'll be working early (like 7-9 am), so I'm game for pretty much anything, anytime, and I've got 2 vehicles to choose from (since the hubby will be sleeping). [Wink]

I can provide rides or even a place to crash if you want (but, since I have no little ones, my house is not particularly baby/toddler friendly, and I also have cats).

Derrell, I have to be back to Scottsdale by 3:30, so leaving a midpoint about 2-2:30 (if it's 50 miles, I assume?) Assuming it would take me an hour to get there, that would have us at the Cracker Barrel from possibly before 11 to about 2 (with a migration to a possibly kid friendlier venue possible). But I've never been to a Cracker Barrel. Is it just basically a restaurant?

Thanks for the offer, ludosti! But my husband was looking forward to checking into a place with a pool.

Posted by Derrell (Member # 6062) on :

Yeah, it's a restaurant. ludosti, if we do the Cracker Barrell thing, could I get a ride?

Posted by PSI Teleport (Member # 5545) on :

Pooka, it's an "old country restaurant" with food that has names like sawmill gravy. And it has a country store in the front.

Sure thing Derrell!

PSI - Where's the Cracker Barrel you're thinking of?

Ah, I see, it's in Casa Grande.

So, what time are we doing this? I'll be leaving for work soon, so won't be around when the decision is made. ludosti, let me know what time you'll be by to pick me up and if you need my address again. You can just post it here or e-mail me at either the address you have or derrellf AT gmail DOT com

Posted by pooka (Member # 5003) on :

Anyone have a cell phone number they want to email me? I think my profile works but if not its pooka50 (at) hotmail (dot) com.

I am really excited to meet you guys. You can call me Trisha, by the way. It's also okay to call me pooka. I think when you meet hatrackers for the first time the grasping for what to call them is hilarious.

Posted by ludosti (Member # 1772) on :

Pooka - I already did. Did you not get my email?

Posted by pooka (Member # 5003) on :

umm, no (we're running late [Razz] ) I'll try emailing mine to you.

Posted by pooka (Member # 5003) on :

I got the detailed instructions , I feel better now, I probably won't get another chance to check in, so we'll see ya when we see ya.

Posted by ludosti (Member # 1772) on :

Grrr....

I'll send it to you again (on the chance that you'll have internet access at the hotel).

Posted by Architraz Warden (Member # 4285) on :

Alright, I'm still game for all this. So the Cracker Barrel is officially a go? I wouldn't mind joining the carpool heading out from Phoenix(either as an occupant or as a driver, either way).

Just keep me apprised, and I'll see what I can do. Ludosti has my E-mail, or another is in my profile.

Is it the one in Casa Grande? I have to check and see if that's the one I'm thinking of.

I got the car, so barring something weird, I can be there.

Oh, and I can't remember your email address, lusti. Can you give it to me (or email it to me) so I can give you my number? I don't have a cell so I'll need an hour or two warning to get there in time. Did that make any sense at all? It's so late.

Ok, are we wanting to aim for 11ish at the Cracker Barrel in Casa Grande?

Is that cool with everyone? Post here or drop me an email (crazyludosti at yahoo dot com) so I can get in touch with any/everyone.

It all becomes clear as to why the Honda's gas tank was oddly full this evening (and I didn't have to fill it up)...

Silly boy, I filled it up Thursday after I went to Goodyear... [Smile]

Now to change the oil.

ludosti, did you get ahold of pooka?

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

ludosti, my parents just bought a condo in Casa Grande 2 months ago, and they are planning to retire there, at least for the winters.

JenniK and I may help my mom and dad out moving, so we will be out there sometime in the next 13 months, before my dad is retired.

Posted by ludosti (Member # 1772) on :

Very cool!

Let me know when you're here and we can get together!

Posted by Derrell (Member # 6062) on :

The get together was cool. I got to meet the pooka family. Well, except for mr. pooka. Maybe next time. Pooka and kids are really cool. PSI Teleport also brought her cool kids. [Smile] A good time was had by all, though pooka's kids weren't to crazy about the Arizona heat. I'm not too crazy about it either.

Posted by PSI Teleport (Member # 5545) on :

Just wanted you guys to know that I made it home safely. The kids were beet red, but they stayed awake until we got home, mostly due to the fact that I bought them cups of half Hi-C and half water at Wendy's before I left. That kept them very occupied.

Little Jesse wouldn't eat the candy until he got home, because he wanted to make sure he "stayed good". He's so weird. He had a little piece and I'm about to put him in bed.

Posted by Derrell (Member # 6062) on :

So, did you miss the ice cream man? Your kids are so cute. So are pooka's. I really had fun.

Posted by PSI Teleport (Member # 5545) on :

Yeah it looks like we did. And thanks! But at most, I can say my kids are really weird. Cause you know it's true.

I can't wait til the next one! It was neat meeting Pooka's fam.

Posted by Derrell (Member # 6062) on :

So what if your kids are weird. They fit in perfectly here at Hatrack. [Smile] Er, did I say that out loud? [Wink] Jesse didn't end up taking that bug home with him, did he?

Posted by PSI Teleport (Member # 5545) on :

Gee, I hope not.

Posted by ludosti (Member # 1772) on :

I'm really glad to hear that you and the kids made it home safely, PSI! I was worried about the 3 of you in that heat. The next get-together we do should be when it's finally cooled down... [Wink]

I had a lot of fun getting to see everybody! I loved getting to spend time with the kids too! It's been a while since I've spent time with little kids. [Smile]

Oh yeah - Crystal (the frog) had fun with everyone too! [Big Grin]

Thanks to the Arizona jatraqueros for a great time! I think I was telling ludosti, but didn't repeat later, how close I came to living in Arizona in 1996. My husband wanted to move there and I said I would only move if we could live in Flagstaff (as opposed to some raw land just south of Grand Canyon). Since he wanted to do massages for Grand Canyon, he thought the commute was too far so we just stayed in Utah.

Driving out north, we were again awestruck by the Saguaro cacti. They kind of disappeared- didn't know if it is a lattitude thing or an altitude thing- after 100 miles. I really want to read up on them now. We took a jaunt through Sedona, where we debated how to pronounce "cacti". I thought that if one weren't using a latinate pronunciation one should just say "cactuses".

Sedona was weird. Back when he worked in the Grand Canyon, several people had told hubby it was the spiritual center of the universe. I believe Edgar Cayce said the same thing about Virginia Beach, VA. Well, I've now been to both just to cover my bases.

And many times during the trip, not the least of which was Navajo Bridge , I pondered how folks in olden times could have made such a journey. And now we just hop in our car and go. And the biggest drama we faced was my preschooler refusing to use various restrooms, thus delaying us by about an hour altogether.
