Spinning Wheel by Blood Sweat & Tears and As Tears Go By by the Rolling Stones.

Don't feel like going heavy this week. I'll put it simply: Both these works are fantastic.

Listen to the songs. Spinning Wheel is a jazzy glaze work, and As Tears go by a very poetic expression of sadness and longing.

It is the evening of the day
I sit and watch the children play
Smiling faces I can see
But not for me
I sit and watch
As tears go by

My riches can't buy everything
I want to hear the children sing
All I hear is the sound
Of rain falling on the ground
I sit and watch
As tears go by

It is the evening of the day
I sit and watch the children play
Doin' things I used to do
They think are new
I sit and watch
As tears go by

*sigh* Very well worded, very condensced, and touching. Sorry, the words are not here today.

Anyway...onto Don McClean! I was asked to give my opinion of his (Vincent, starry, starry, night). My opinon?

Too simple beat, too poetic wording (and some of the rhymes are annoying). It is exactly the type of music that could grow on me, once I really absorb it. Ask me again in three months.

BS&T are okay. Unfortunately, by the time I heard them for the first time, I'd already been spoiled by Chase, a lesser-known but infinitely funkier band in the same horn-heavy genre. Spinning Wheel can't hold a candle to Hello Groceries or Get It On. I only own their self-title now, but I have fond memories of listening to their entire catalogue on vinyl with my band teacher in high school. Aah, the memories.

ZEUS! [Big Grin]

Chagned my mind overnight abuot Stary, stary, night. It's a beautiful piece about Vincent van Gogh, and it has made me cry. But that is probably mroe because I'm very emotionally unstable at the moment, and depressed.

Still, it is getting better the more I listen to it.

Sparing the specifics, over the last three years, I have squandered my time and options, refusing to face reality simply because it was too hard. So here I am. I can still act, but how much will be salvaged?

So that's why I'm depressed [Frown] .

Ah whatever. [Smile]

Heh, my world and welcome to it. "If only" syndrome run amok.

My life sucks at the moment - lost my best shot at a job in four years and may end up working as a detention officer. Not the kind of career I was looking for and I am definitely feeling the headsman's axe looming large.

Phanto,

why did you choose to squander? if you can call it a "choice".

Fear, resignation, and ignoring reality. That covers about it all [Frown] .

And such truths are always clearer in hindsight, unfortunately.
