*giggle* I was reminded of all the nice Mormon Hatrackers last night. Last night on South Park they had Mormons! LOL! It was great!

A new family moves in and Stan is told by the other kids to beat up the new student. The new student is all nice and Stan can't bring himself to beat him up even with the other kids pressuring him. He somehow gets talked into going over for dinner at the new place.

The family is all nice and loving and instead of watching TV they sings songs and do family stuff. And then we find out they're Mormons! LOL! I couldn't help but think of Hatrack! Oh.... I had a good chuckle. [Smile]

Then they go into this song about the history of how the LDS got started and it was EXACTLY like the tales of Alvin Maker! Heheheheh... [Wink]

I didn't get a chance to see the whole episode so who knows what happens or how they are made fun of but like I said I was reminded of you guys. In a good way. I didn't know much about Mormons before hanging out here but from what you guys have shown me there does seem to be a trend of LDS peeps being family loving tolerant cool people. Cheers for the Mormons! [Smile]

Ok... that is all.

We watched it! It was quite funny. We were laughing. They got some of the details wrong, but they did a lot better than some depictions I have seen.

The Tales of Alvin Maker were based on Joseph Smith. [Wink]

I will cheer for Mormons as well. About two days ago I was driving through our town and noticed 2 young men walking dressed in black pants, white dress shirts, and ties. They both had backpacks. I wanted to roll down the window and yell, "Hey Mormons! How ya doing?" but decided that it could be misconstrued as being unfriendly rather than friendliness.

I think the South Park guys are fairly sympathetic to Mormons (Orgasmo notwithstanding).

Yeah, I read an article where they talked about what they thought of Mormons based on some good friends of theirs. Basically they said that Mormons believe some way wacked-out stuff, but they are really nice people. This episode seemed to share exactly those sentiments.

Dave and mack showed me this in New Hampshire. They kept looking at me like I was going to faint at any point. I thought it was funny, and even mostly accurate.

My favorite part was "Martin Harris dumb dumb dumb, Lucy Harris smart!"

Was it the South Park movie where everyone went to hell except for the Mormons? (paraphrased) "The right answer was Mormon. That's right, Mormon was the right religion."

This is completely unrelated to the mormon thing, but I just had to brag. South Park actually moved into the suite next door to mine. I see Matt Stone all the time. My prayers consist of begging for the opportunity to get a job there. I often see the employees in the parking lot racing little motorized cars or tossing around a football.

Coolest job, EVER.

Maybe I'll try to flag down someone from SP on my next smoke break and find out a little about that episode.

Lol, this reminds me we were driving somewhere, and were still pretty close to our neighborhood, and I saw these two guys walking together wearing white button up shirts, black pants, and ties.

I said to Steve "Oh Mormons, I've been surprised that we've been here for a year and haven't seen any, I guess they've finally gotten to our neighborhood."

Upon closer inspection as we drove past, it turned out the guys were also wearing dark waiters aprons around their waists and were merely walking home from work.

It made me chuckle and think fondly of Hatrack.

From what I remember reading about that episode, the guys really do respect the LDS religion, think that members are great people, they just don't believe it themselves. Could be wrong, though.

Wait a minute, what was wrong with Orgazmo?

Posted by BannaOj (Member # 3206) on :

I somehow thought that the south park creators were in on the making of Orgazmo? Though even so while poking fun IMO it isn't really that disrespectful of LDS religion, it is more of a conneticut yankee in king arthur's court deal.

Tell Matt and Trey that I love them and the need to make another South Park Movie.

Orgasmo made me laugh until I couldn't breathe. Probably not a movie a Mormon would allowed to see, but the Mormon hero was actually quite sincere. *giggles madly at the thought of the theme song*

Actually, what I'd really like to see is a remake of Cannible, only with a supporting cast that can sing. The Trapper guys just didn't cut it.

This reminds me of a commercial that was around a few years ago for a hardware store...it had a guy on a riding lawnmower kicking up rocks like nobody's business, and then you see two guys in white shirts and dark slacks walking down the sidewalk and one of them gets konked in the head by a rock and falls to the ground.

I'm positive they were meant to be missionaries because after only a few showings, the colors of the shirts were CHANGED to light yellow/blue. It's too bad, it was too funny.

I saw Mormons the other day out in the Square! They had the white shirts and ties and everything!

They looked pretty worn out, actually. Are there rules against buying missionaires water or something, 'cause one looked like he was about to pass out in the heat.

Right, so I got linked over to this thread from the Other Side and didn't realize how old it was. Hence the bump.

What a cool thread! I missed it the first time around, I think. Or else I forgot it. Sometimes I think I missed an old thread I'm reading until I come across my post in it. [Razz]

No that was the "Golden PSP" episode from the show, where Kenny went to heaven to direct gods army against the invasion from hell.

There was almost an Ender's Game reference there too.
