"Unicornwhisperer after a long period of inactivity walks onto the tennis court"
"She swings the racket hard and hits the ball.. She scores!"
"15-0"
"Oh! Great Shot!"
"30-0"
"And we'll be back after these messages.."
"And Ronald Mcdonald makes an amazing dive and he's happy about this one!"
"And we are back at this amazing tennis match between unicornwhisperer and .. Holy Cow [Eek!] !"
"Aaugh! She hit it out!"
"30-15"
"Amazing play, 45-15!"
"Holy cow she had to do the splits to reach that one! She's limping!.... But she makes an amazinf come back and scores!
[The Wave]
What a great day for unicornwhisperer and Tommorow we'll see her go against the next defending champion at 8/7pm Central."

[Maybe I should have picked a more exciting game... of course Tennis is the only Summer Olympic sport I can play..]

I guess your predicament arises from the fact that all jatraqueros who are able and care to are watching the Olympics instead of posting. Present company excepted.

:bizarre conceptual advert for AT&T:

:Strangely almost poetic commentary by Bob Costas:

:crying over some dude I never seen before just because they are from my country:

It's all good. [Embarrassed] [Blushing] [Frown] (Red white and blue)

Lowes has been advertising that they have the most Olympic Employees.

So I am wondering, how do they employ their olympic employees?

Do the sprinters run for price-checks?

Do the shot putters load the cement bags into your truck?

And think about the interesting possibilities of the High Divers and the top shelves of their warehouse stores?

I haven't seen any Lowes ads. Of course, I did record last night's stuff and watch it this morning, fast forwarding over the adds.

Granted the AT&T "How many bars do you have" isn't as weird as those walking dryer tubes from the 80's. Anyone remember those?

I still remember Goodyear Arriva tires too.

This thread is supposed to be one where you pretend your in the Olympics, not to converse about commercials. Does anyone have an imagination anymore? [Big Grin]

This is the most commercials I've seen since the last olympics. So, I have a question. IN the "American DReams" ad, why-- if every generation has a story-- do we always wind up talking about frequin' baby boomers?

Green and gold all the way, baby.

We're having very few ads over here - I think it's because with the wacky time difference and all, the events are mostly live at about 1am. So all the daytime broadcasts are back to back repeats. And repeats of repeats where we get the gold.

Except of course if it's not swimming - then any medal will do. Not that we're a nation obsessed. Oh no.

Ours aren't live either, so the knowledge that they deliberately program in all those ads is extra annoying.

What is amazing me is the number of people I know who are setting their alarm clocks and getting up at 2am to watch a race live.

No televised sports event is worth that much to me! The delayed replay will do just fine.

I know! Kill me now! I can recite these commercials! At least I can flip to the french channel- it has different commercials.

Lying on TV watching olympic atheletes, I've decided, is a very pathetic existance.

Ireland? Whereabouts? I'll be heading to Limerick in November. Not the best time of year, so I've heard.

Why is Australia green and gold? Your flag is also red, white, and blue. Or probably, by weight, blue, white and red.

Loews having the most olympic employees reminds me that Cirque Du Soleil has employed the most twins, officially. At least that was true a few years ago.

I didn't realize the Olympics included tennis as an event -- but a quick search proves you are right that it does...

Debating whether or not to get up at 3 AM tonight (tomorrow morning) to watch our local Wichita girl compete on the women's swim team in Athens...

I was in Lowe's the other day, picking up some plumbing supplies, and I really had to sprint to get help. Those "helper" people see the questioning look on your face and head in the opposite direction as fast as they can. They're not too good at weightlifting, as my wife and I had to load the new swamp cooler onto the trolley ourselves.

I can't think of a single Olympic event I could compete in -- even in my dreams. Can I be a heckler in the stands instead?

Dan Raven steps up to the line.

He sneers at Unicorn Whisperer, being unable to handle the perry and thrust of those seeking to derail this thread. "That" he says in a voice full of pity and pride "Is the enemy you must fight."

He pulls out his shiny rapier and prepares to fence with those commercial de-railers. "Ha ha!" he yells.

Sure, he was one of their numbers earlier. But now that his only competition has left the field, Dan Raven reverts back to the olympics and prepares to grab the gold.

Swish goes his rapier as the horde of derailers step forward, forgetting all the rules and technicalities of the sport.

They charge and prepare to swarm over our snooty hero, not fighting him one at a time in the traditional fencing manner. The last thought the goes through his mind as the mob of unruly derailers descends upon him is "Forget this little thing. Next time I fence, I'm bringing a battle ax."

Crash, punch, jab, smack

"and a gun."

thud, oof, bite, pinch, inappropriate grabbing.

"a big @#$@# gun."

I can handle people derailing this thread!
In fact I always know that Hatrack is famous for changing the subject of a thread..(having been here a lot longer than you have, Dan)
*Sneers back at Dan* [Grumble]
I just didn't think it would change so quickly. [Frown]

And imogen steps up, to compete in the official sport of continuing the de-rail...

A hush falls over the crowd.

She stands still for a minute then opens her mouth
"Yeah, well your mother..."

THE CROWD GOES WILD! THE DERAIL HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL! No-one is getting back to the topic tonight. The Stadium is filled with insults. And it's GOLD GOLD GOLD for Australia!

******

Yep, Green and Gold are our colours - even though the flag is indeed Blue, White and Red.

Not quite sure why - maybe people thought enough countries had the old red, white and blue trio already.

Google to the rescue!

quote:
It was not until April 19, 1984, that green and gold were officially declared Australia's national sports colours by the then Governor-General, Sir Ninian Stephen. The combination was, however, used in the jumpers, blazers and caps of the Australian cricket team to tour England in 1899, but was not ratified by the Australian Cricket Board until 1908. It was also worn by the Australian Olympic team in that year, while the Australian Rugby League adopted the colours in 1928. Green and gold were the popular choice to represent Australia internationally because the colours closely resembled those of our national emblem the golden wattle.

More on the wattle signifigance.

So, hence our ugly green blazers this year. [Big Grin] [Smile] [Big Grin] [Smile]

Edit: I'm glad no-one read this for a while. Wonder how many more typos I can find?

Wow, between a kangaroo and an Emu, that coat of arms kicks fanny!

Posted by imogen (Member # 5485) on :

Some resteraunts serve 'Coat of Arms' specials.

Kangaroo and Emu on the one plate.. *mm-hmm*

Actually, they are both quite nice meats. Kangaroo is lovely and is becoming very easy to obtain at supermarkets now - quite gamey and much cheaper than other types of meat.

I just like the irreverance. [Smile]

I like the green and gold. It's easy to spot, especially in the pool. The Canadians are dressed in either red, white or black. Like half of everyone else. To find the Australian you look for the bright yellow. I like it!

EDIT: Or you could look in the winning position, next to the Americans. What's with the Australians? They're fabulous!
