Those of you at KamaCon already know about the trip to Chicago, but do read on. The trip home from Chicago proved interesting as well.

I learned that weird people ride buses in the middle of the night. My bus left Louisville at 3:30 am. At about 7:00 am, I noticed a man...err..touching himself a few seats away. Did he really have to wait until the sun came up?? Thank goodness for the Billie Holiday CD that helped take me to my happy place far far away. It was also very cold on the bus - cold like an igloo. A man in front of me offered his blanket, but I was afraid to take it.

The bus ride back home was so hot I practically sweated through my "kiss me" shirt, which brought problems of its own. NEVER WEAR A SHIRT THAT SAYS KISS ME ON A BUS. People will offer to kiss you, and frequently. During my layover at the Chicago bus station, a very nice man told me that he had recently wrecked his car. I made sympathetic noises until he mentioned that he'd totaled his car because he was on acid at the time. Then he asked me if I happened to have any rolling papers. I said no, and managed to look sad that I didn't have any. Another man, during a slight layover in Indianapolis, called me a "pretty little girl" when I asked to use his lighter. The ick factor was high, let me tell ya. While waiting for my husband to pick me up in Louisville, I witness two women screaming about "kicking the b*tch's a**." These two women were not talking about each other. Apparantly my fair city has a lot of women who need to be beat up.

Pretty much whenever I travel I travel by Greyhound. I've sat next to some really interesting people. The girl who designed socks for a living, another girl who just walked across Canada, a man who had just been hired as a math prof in Waterloo, an ex-con who had just been released from Kingston Pen and was returning home, A woman who owned a theatre shop in London who was big into astrology, a linguist, an activist from Vancouver who got in a large argument with me over Sustainable Development. Some of these conversations would last upwards of 12 hours. Strange that the only 12 hour conversations I've ever had have been with total strangers. It's amazing what you'll tell a complete stranger.

Good times, good memories.

This reminds me of my time on the train when the weird guy from Ireland fell asleep in me. Some other weird guy stole my blanket, but when I found him he'd wrapped up his little girl with it, and when they got off the train, he'd returned it. [Smile]

Maybe Canadians are just more likely to talk to you when on public transportaion? Actually, I've found that the likelihood of talking to someone is directly proportional to the length of the bus trip. The few times I've gone from Waterloo to Halifax (almost 2 days of travel) I've talked to people the whole way. What else are you going to do? Watch Twister? Nobody is as bad as Twister. Nobody.

GAH! Hobbes! That was supposed to be ON me. Of all the cursed mistakes to make, it had to be that one! [Mad]

Why couldn't it have been "on mu"? Or "an me". Or "no me"?

I want to delete it but I can't because Hobbes quoted it!

On the overnight train I took last night, two teenage girls were sitting just ahead of me. They were literally on their cell phones (loudly) all night. They had to take turns plugging them into the power outlet to keep up their gabfests, in between arguing loudly with each other. It wouldn't have been so bad if their favorite topic of discussion hadn't been skanky sex. I eventually had to retreat to the safetly of my headphones, but my laptop had a severe lack of decent mp3's to drown them out. So, yay for no sleep.

You know, taken out of context, this could be construed as having a lot more to do with Onan than most of the threads where his name gets mentioned.

Usually when I sit on buses I got to sit next to some LUNKY IRRATATING GUY who has to spread himself all over me and get all up in my space.
But once, I sat next to this cute German woman who rolled her own cigarettes. She disliked the movie Saving Private Ryan.
Then one time this girl slept on me. I didn't mind one bit...
But, what I hated was going from Canton NY to NYC on the Syracuse line. It seemed like there would ALWAYS be some lunky loud men screaming and yelling and getting on my last damn nerves!
One time I think someone pulled out a gun in the station. Or at least people were screaming like someone did.
Then, I went from MA to Illionois and sat next to some cool guy name Bruno who taught me a phrase in Japanese I forgot for retired men. He was hyper cool.

Thanks for deflecting the heat, Syn.

Speaking of sharing your space with someone , you should have seen the surprise guest I was forced to accomodate on our trip home.

Punwit, I didn't ride home with you. Did you pick up a bum? Or perhaps the soul fairy?

Surely you aren't suggesting that you are the only person out there that could pass for my twin?

This fella did entertain us with some kick-a** humming, although a few of the tunes were tough to decipher.

Uh, dude. You've got it backwards. I'm not your twin, you're my twin, remember? You said so yourself.

I rode a Greyhound for the first time about a week ago. My cousin rode with me. It was…..interesting. It was from Chicago to Indianapolis. There was a guy who was forced out at a truck stop because he was caught smoking in the bathroom. There was another guy, in his mid 50’s, who continually stared at my cousin and me. He seemed normal enough but it was creepy that he continually stared at two girls 30+ years younger then him.

I like (well, mostly like) the characters I meet on Greyhound... I just hate doing long trips on Greyhound, since it's impossible to sleep on the buses... I always swear that I'm never going to do another overnight trip again, but I've always ended up breaking that vow...
