What's your favorite cereal? I myself prefer Honey Bunches of Oats with almonds. I call it "HBO."
[Smile]

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

Healthy: Nutrigrain wheat

Sugary: Golden Grahams

Granola: The kind with steel cut rolled oats

Hot: Oatmeal with butter and salt, with a tiny bit of cream around the edges

Growing up if I had any kind of cereal it was the frosted flakes that came in those huge bags.

Now, my absolute favorite is a kind called Cranberry Almond Crunch. I think it's made by the HBO people. Yum!

Posted by mackillian (Member # 586) on :

Cap'n Crunch for sugary.

or the low-fat granola for non-sugary good for you stuff.

cept milk hates me now.

[Frown]

Barb's Cinnamon Puffins. Dry. Nummmmy.

Raisin Nut Bran by general mills, will rarely touch anything else.

Honey Bunches of Oats, Almonds. It's sweet without being sugary, and good for you without being bland.

Posted by Kasie H (Member # 2120) on :

Hot or cold oatmeal with soy milk.

Yummy...

Posted by skillery (Member # 6209) on :

I like to mix spoon sized shredded wheat and golden crisp.

HBO with dried strawberries is probably my favorite, but it doesn't have quite enough fiber.

Mack, my brother in Phoenix serves cereal for breakfast when we stay over, but he doesn't put milk on the table; he serves it with distilled water. There's so much sugar in cereal, that one hardly notices the milk anyway.

Posted by ak (Member # 90) on :

I will have to try that! I am also dying to try Honey Nut Chex. Honey Nut Cheerios are also a fave!

Welcome back, Rahul! The long Rahuless nightmare is finally over, everybody! [Smile]

I love Peanut Butter Crunch for sweat sugary goodness. Best hot cereal is by far Cream of Wheats drizzled with light brown sugar. mmm... so good!

HBO rocks real hard.

I always think I want Lucky Charms, maybe for the nostalgia, but it just isn't as good as I remember. [Frown]

Posted by skillery (Member # 6209) on :

Lucky Charms are downright nasty when soggy. We used to call them Yucky Charms. You almost have to eat them dry from the box, followed by a quick gulp of milk to get any crunch at all.

In high school my buddy, who was on the football team, showed me how to eat cereal: half a box of Cap'n Crunch and a quart of milk in a Tupperware mixing bowl. The Cap'n was the only cereal that would stay crunchy through the half hour that it took to get to the bottom. Forget Yucky Charms in Tupperware!

Posted by fiazko (Member # 5812) on :

Put me down for HBO also, but without the unnecessary chunks (nuts, "dried" fruit, etc).

Posted by beverly (Member # 6246) on :

I love Corn Bran and Cracklin' Oat Bran. But alas, they rarely, if ever, are on sale!

For a sugary treat, I enjoy both Cocoa and Fruity Pebbles. Ooo, and Cookie Crisp. But these are more dessert than breakfast. And I always eat too much, makes me feel ill.

Golden Grahams and Life are both verrrry tasty.

Cheerios.

Though cereal milk makes me tummy rumbly, I do enjoy Honey Bunches of Oats with Strawberries. mmm mmm.

Rice crispies with sugar. Can't go wrong with it.
Life, both kinds...
Honey comb...

When I was a kid I liked-
Cap'n crunch. It had the best prices.
Rice crispies.
Circus fun, which was better than Lucky Charms because it didn't have gross icky oats in it. It had rings and balls and nice tasting marshmallows.
Total with honey, i still love Total with honey
Special K which is good with sugar. That defeats the purpose.

Posted by PSI Teleport (Member # 5545) on :

There's 3 kinds of Life now. I have yet to try the new honey graham ones.

Posted by mackillian (Member # 586) on :

I miss Frosted Rice Krispies.

Posted by tt&t (Member # 5600) on :

No contest.

Coco Pops. Just like a chocolate milkshake only crunchy! [Big Grin]

Posted by beverly (Member # 6246) on :

I miss the Rice Krispies with marshmallows. Their marshmallows tasted different than any other cereal's marshmallows. They just don't make 'em like that anymore. [Frown]

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

I miss Triples. Does anyone else remember them?

Posted by Raia (Member # 4700) on :

I had to get used to a WHOLE NEW cereal culture now that I'm in Israel! Hehe... but I like Cari'ot, now that I'm here, the Capuccino flavor... that's the best. My little sister is addicted to Ugi.

Posted by Da_Goat (Member # 5529) on :

If I just wanted a sugar rush (which is usually the reason I eat cereal), it was Rice Crispy Treat cereal. I haven't seen that lately, though, but the Reese's stuff works too.

If I eat cereal as a breakfast, it's HBO. It tends to be more expensive for the size of the box, though, so I don't get it very often.

Posted by littlemissattitude (Member # 4514) on :

Rice Krispies.

Oh, and Frosted Flakes. Yeah, I know - all that sugar. But the upside is that 1) I don't have to put sugar on them, and 2) they don't seem to get soggy like regular corn flakes do.

Also, Alpha Bits, but they are expensive (I can get generic versions of the other two that are just as good as the brand name versions) so I don't get them very often.

Posted by blacwolve (Member # 2972) on :

I can't stand cereals that are heavily sugared, so my favorites are cheerios, corn flakes, and Life, which does have a small amount of sugar, but isn't nearly as sickening as most sugared cereals.

Posted by dabbler (Member # 6443) on :

There was one awesome cereal called Suncrunchers, but I think it did poorly and was discontinued pretty quickly. Sad and all.

Posted by Bokonon (Member # 480) on :

In my case, as far as the mainstream cereals go, the only ones I didn't eat were the Cinnamon ones... My favorites were Lucky Charms, Fruity Pebbles, Life, Raisin Bran, Grapenuts, Cap'n Crunch with Crunchberries.

-Bok

Peanut Butter Crunch is my current favorite. Growing up it was Crunch Berries, until they added the second color.

Posted by Scott R (Member # 567) on :

My absolute favorite breakfast cereal was this stuff I got in Italy called 'Tastee Crounchy,' I think.

Like Muslix, only in a really big box.

Mmmm. . .

Posted by Carrie (Member # 394) on :

Old-school Kix. Hands down the best cereal ever. Since they "updated" them, Kix is just a quality cereal instead of incredible.

Running a distant second are Honey-Nut Cheerios (the only cereal I ate in Greece) and Smart Start.

Posted by TheTick (Member # 2883) on :

I hate when cereals are 'updated'. Please, we love them as they are...make a new cereal if you want to mess around with flavors! [Grumble]

Posted by Lime (Member # 1707) on :

I'm a little miffed at the obvious marketing schemes, myself - "There's X movie coming out! Make it a cereal for kids!"

*sigh*

But you can't go wrong with Cinnamon Toast Crunch.

What the heck is Coco Pops? Is that some kinda funky kiwi cereal?

Posted by TheTick (Member # 2883) on :

Maybe he means Coco Crisp.

Posted by PSI Teleport (Member # 5545) on :

I thought maybe Cocoa Puffs, which are, indeed, quite exquisite.

Posted by Teshi (Member # 5024) on :

Multigrain Cheerios.

Posted by peterh (Member # 5208) on :

The best cereal ever was Cap'n Crunch's basesball crunch. It was basically Cap'n Crunch with baseball shaped marshmellows.

Posted by Lupus (Member # 6516) on :

I'm not really a cereal person...if I eat cereal I am always hungry an hour later. My breakfast usually consists of one of those great start breakfasts (sort of like a TV dinner, but with eggs, sausage, and potatoes) and carnation instant breakfast (mix it with milk).

Though when I do eat cereal as a snack, I like coco puffs

Posted by Zalmoxis (Member # 2327) on :

Cold cereals:

Best healthy, not-seriously sweetened cereal: tie -- kix/cheerios
Best 'healthy' but sweetened cereal: spoon sized honey nut shredded wheat
Best sugar cereal: corn pops
Best overall cereal: crackling oat bran

Hot cereal:

Best store-bought cereal: Roman meal [with brown sugar and milk (or even better -- cream)]
Best home-made cereal: My grandfather's special mix of steel cut, rolled oats, barley, wheat and I believe one other other grain [flax? amarynth?] cooked in a double boiler and topped with raisins, brown sugar and a little milk.

Posted by PSI Teleport (Member # 5545) on :

Zal, how can you have a best "overall" cereal that doesn't fit into one of the other categories first?

Posted by Koga (Member # 5646) on :

Trix are awsome, and so of course are Golden Grahams.

Also honey Nut Chex are WAY better than honey nut cheerios.

Posted by PSI Teleport (Member # 5545) on :

Are you posting incognito at school? How's it going?

Posted by romanylass (Member # 6306) on :

My favorite two are Kashi Go-Lean Crunch and Peace Cereals Essential 10. My kids fave is Trader Joe's Triple Berry-O's. I put vanilla yogurt on top rather than milk.

Posted by PSI Teleport (Member # 5545) on :

Anyone ever tried Joe's O's? They're the only generic cheerios that are any good.

Posted by AmkaProblemka (Member # 6495) on :

For those of you who miss cereal because it's typical side kick has started kicking you, the refridgerated kind of soy milks (I usually get plain) are a pretty descent substitution. Except that 8th Continent brand. That stuff is gross, at least to me.

Posted by Koga (Member # 5646) on :

Actually yeah Sveta i am,I just remembered the log in name and password for this screen name first. My computer at home generally remembers them for me when i use my regular name, or any screen name really.

And it is going ok so far. Got through the first day of classes alive anyway.

Cap'n Crunch is the absolute best cereal ever made, although it shreds your mouth when you eat it. When I have a box of it I rarely get out the milk, though. It's better by the handful.

The most satisfying cereal is raisin bran. Keeps me going at least 10 minutes longer than any other cereal, which is to say 8:50 am instead of 8:40 am. Which is why I rarely have cereal for breakfast. I try to have pancakes/french toast, eggs, and sausage as often as possible for breakfast.

Hmm. I had a really good breakfast in Portland, OR a couple of months ago. Some small restaurant called Bisau's or something like that. I had apple fritter french toast and a big, fat sausage. I would be happy eating there every morning. Yum.

Posted by TheTick (Member # 2883) on :

That's the beauty of this area...I can get a real breakfast for cheap, thanks to all the inexpensive Greek places. 2 eggs, toast, home fries, bacon, ~$5. Usually reserve it for the weekend, though. [Smile]

While we're on the subject of big breakfasts, does anybody know if Denny's still has that one for $2.99?

Posted by Goody Scrivener (Member # 6742) on :

Honey Nut Cheerios, Golden Grahams, and Frosted Flakes. But oh do I miss the old Kix!

Goody

I had some yummy cereal in Ireland last year. It was a muesli cereal called Alpen Original, made by the Weetabix company in the U.K.

Posted by kaioshin00 (Member # 3740) on :

Goat... You work at Domino's. You can't sell out by going to Denny's. [No No]

Posted by Stan the man (Member # 6249) on :

Can't eat breakfast except as a lunch.

well ok, a doughnut doesn't pick on my system.

but usually, it's coffee and cigarettes.

Posted by tt&t (Member # 5600) on :

I'm a she, and coco pops.

Posted by Eruve Nandiriel (Member # 5677) on :

Wow, somebody's phsycic. I was going to start a thread about this the other day.

My Mom always bought the "healthy" cereals, so I didn't get to eat "chocolate frosted suger bombs". I like Granola, Cinnamon toast crunch, lucky charms (or at least the marshmallows), and fruit loops. But the only one of those that I was allowed to eat was Granola.

Posted by PSI Teleport (Member # 5545) on :

Holy moly. I totally remember those things now, kiwi! I wonder where they went? Apparently they're all in New Zealand now.

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

Skillery,

I haven't seen Alpen around for years! It was sort of dusty, I remember. Sweet, but healtily so.
