I keep getting a message that my computer is suffering from bloodhound.exploit.6. There's a mention of it at Symantec and a link to a Windows patch that's supposed to fix it.

Trouble is, the patch insists I don't have Outlook Express 6 installed, and I do! Until I can get it to admit I have OE 6, it won't work.

What can I do? (I never actually use OE.)

Maybe you can find a website that tells you how to uninstall it manually?

Or talk to Farmgirl, cause she r0xx0r5.

Well, this trojan basically just re-directs your IE browser to an infected site, where it downloads more back-door files.

You did the right thing, of course, by going for the I.E. patch -- but that is to fix the exploit in I.E. itself that allows this trojan -- you then also tried to remove the infected files?

What virus software are you running - McAfee or Norton? Can you uninstall Outlook Express 6 and reload it so it can find it? I'm not sure why the patch is telling you this, or why it can't find OE6 properly.

Running XP? Be sure you turn off System Restore until after you get everything fixed and cleaned, then turn it back on.

(another reason to use Firefox.... [Wink]

Farmgirl, I have run Norton to remove the files; it was unable to do so, although it "quarantined" them. I couldn't find them manually; I assume the virus makes them invisible.

There's no simple way to uninstall OE as there is for some programs, though I'm sure I'll figure out something eventually.

And I do use Firefox. I have not yet removed IE because certain important websites (like my local bank) refuse to recognize Firefox, and because some plugins do not seem to work for it. As a result, it is bombarding me with popups again, though it had stopped for a while.
