I can't believe no one's posted this here yet!

Toss CarlRove into a Syrian jail for questioning. Sounds like his typical campaign dirty tricks. Yet Again.

Amen. I mean, c'mon, they couldn't find the bullet?

Posted by Dagonee (Member # 5818) on :

They don't find the bullet a LOT. Especially when it goes through a window.

I don't know whether this is true or not, especially since I can't get through to the site right now.

But neither do you.

The link doesn't work for me. There is nothing in my handy-dandy Yahoo headlines, either.

Edit: But the ads at the bottom of the page say "Romantic Fantasy" and "Science Fiction Books"
Huh?

I can't find anything either? [Confused]

There is nothing at FoxNews, Cnn, or MSN websites.

That is weird.

It was the party "Headquarters" for Podunk, Nowheresville, yo.

There were like a couple of dozen people there, none were injured, one got some broken glass on her jacket collar. None of them saw anything, they just heard a loud noise while they were watching the convention on TV.

I can't believe that someone would post this. Maybe Podunk is really close to Boonieville or something.

A working link.

quote:
A shot apparently was fired at the Republican Party headquarters in downtown Huntington while President Bush's speech accepting the GOP nomination for president was being televised.

No one was hurt in the 10:30 p.m. Thursday incident.

A window in the building was damaged by a single shot from either a pellet gun or a small-caliber handgun, said Huntington Police Sgt. Dan Underwood.

About 25 Republican candidates and volunteers were in the headquarters at the time, watching the speech.

Wierd, I hadn't heard of this anywhere else, and I live in Huntington.

Posted by WraithSword (Member # 6829) on :

There are way too many people here if we've got someone that actually lives in Huntington on this board. [Grumble]

Posted by Happy Camper (Member # 5076) on :

Erm, Huntington is the second biggest city in the state of West Virginia, for what it's worth. Not entirely podunk (but close). And if it's the WV thing that you're referring to, there's actually 2 of us on the board, or at least were, as of about last November (I can't remember who the other one was though).

rotfl, having not clicked on the links somehow I was thinking it was Huntington Beach, CA.

Nah, I'd know it if another jatraquero lived in my town.

Posted by BannaOj (Member # 3206) on :

Saxon, why did I think you lived farther North than Huntington Beach? I thought you were like somewhere between Monterey and Santa Barbara.

AJ
(or was it that you just grew up in Northern CA?)

I've driven through Huntington. It's not just the second biggest city in WV, it's the biggest city in Huntington.

I grew up in Carmel Valley, which is about a half hour outside of Monterey, and Juliette is from Big Sur.

Ok I wasn't entirely smoking crack then.

A stray bullet hole in a window is not that big of a deal in an area where hunting is commonplace.

Five or six bullet holes, on the other hand, might be an issue for concern.

Wraith, this is true. And I doubt you've actually driven through Huntington, as town is a mile or so off the interstate (which, coincidentally, is why it's so small ~50,000). Maybe you have, but that would probably require taking US-60 through town, and that's much, much slower. Would you feel better about my being here if I mentioned that I was in college(Illinois) or grad school(VA Tech) when I found the place? You can keep the idea of ignorant mountain folk intact (if that is, in fact what you were thinking, maybe it wasn't). Oh, and as for the bullet, I doubt there's much hunting going on in downtown Huntington (granted, I don't know exactly where the office is, but I assume it's in town somewhere).

you went to VA Tech for grad school, Mike? Cool. Lots of my friends went to VA Tech for college. It's kinda boonies, I must admit. I mean, going to a school in a town called Blacksburg which is adjacent to a town called Lynchburg.... [Angst]

Posted by prolixshore (Member # 4496) on :

So the new Wraithrule on posting is that you can't post something unless a jatraquero actually lives there? I'm just making sure, in case some of us were under the illusion that news happens even when we are not personally there to witness it.

Yes, Blacksburg and Christiansburg are immediately adjacent, and Lynchburg is right on down the road. Wonder who's doing the lynching and who's getting lynched...

And I agree, Blacksburg is boonies, the population is, I think, in the single digit thousands, if that. Huntington is a metropolis comparatively.

Very true Camper, but a drunk idiot is hardly a rare event - couple that with perhaps a higher number of weapons in the local populace than one might find elsewhere.

Of course, it might have been a drunk idiot with a handgun voicing a grudge which has nothing to do with my hypothesis at all.

Or a kid with a bb gun.

why would anyone pro-handgun shoot at the Republican office?

AJ

(oh sorry I somehow missed the "drunk idiot" part) Do they ever say what caliber of bullet they suspect?

AJ

There are plenty of Democrats who own weapons. They just overlook the gun control aspect of their chosen party.

And to be fair, some of us gun owners do support some measure of gun control.

It's called the Reichstag Fire scam, BannaOj, popularized for use by Republican staffers by its successful use through successive campaigns led by its chief proponent CarlRove.

Aspectre, give it a rest, OK. You know nothing about this and have no evidence of any kind of conspiracy.

And Huntington, West Virgina sounds like a hotbed of tranquility, despite the incident, given that a local resident had no clue about it.

It was a random shot, hardly someone burning down the Capitol building!
