...Because someone had to do it. The problem is that I can't host a gathering, unless you'd like to cram into my dorm room. So...any suggestions? I suppose it's either going to be Phoenix or Tucson. If we're in Phoenix, we might be able to go to the zoo or see the Phoenix symphony.

Pooka and Katharina, are you still planning to be in Arizona this month?

Posted by pooka (Member # 5003) on :

I will be in Scottsdale from approximately the 20th through the 25th. I'm hoping we can just gather at the condo I'm staying at. But I won't have stuff like internet. I dunno. It has a dishwasher but no stove, only a microwave 0_o

So how many people are we looking at? Who is in Tucson?

PSI is in Tucson. I'm interested.

Posted by Shigosei (Member # 3831) on :

If it's in Tucson, I'll need a ride from someone in Phoenix. I don't have a car.

Posted by Architraz Warden (Member # 4285) on :

I'm of course game. I don't have any set plans for this month, so just let me know when and where and I'll likely be there.

Best for me if it's on a weekend, since I have class during the week.

Posted by ludosti (Member # 1772) on :

I would love to do another get-together, but this month and next month are pretty bad for me. We're going to be out of town while pooka's here and our house is supposed to be finished in a month (mid-October) - so I have very few weekends to try to get ready (especially since I have to spend next Saturday in traffic school [Mad] ).

Let me know and I should be able to make it...

I'm in Tucson too. I'd offer my place but I'd have to check with dh first. He's gone a lot at work right now and may not want me to host alone. But I'd love to meet with people!

Posted by Shigosei (Member # 3831) on :

Hi Uhleeuh! Welcome to Hatrack. I hope you'll be able to make it to a gathering. Don't be shy...we're usually pretty friendly here.

I'm not, but my dad is. [Big Grin] He's on an equipment-buying trip. He's very intelligent and really quite charming. You'd like him, I promise.

Bump!

Posted by Architraz Warden (Member # 4285) on :

Oh hush you two. We have Wildcats and Sun Devils coexisting on a permanant basis at my firm. If that's possible on a permanant basis, surely we could avoid vendettas and bloodshed for a single afternoon.

I'm all for having it in Tucson. As a whole, I probably know more of the "spots" around Tucson than I do here in Phoenix. I would offer rides from Phoenix to those who need them, but it's likely that I'll simply be in Tucson for the weekend, and arrange to make it to the bunching, whatever it may be. Also, I figured out where Bison Witches is, and that it is still in business(it was the unsuccessful goal of the last Tucson outing).

As a very tentative AZ bunching idea, how about seeing Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow? I can't tell if it's going to be a Hatracker movie, or just a Feyd movie. Either way I'm holding high expectations for it, and am dying to see it pretty quickly after it comes out.

Yays? Nays? Alternatives?

Feyd Baron, DoC

Posted by Shigosei (Member # 3831) on :

Shh...don't interfere with my attempts to pretend that I have school spirit!

Yeah, I'd be up for seeing Sky Captain, though I'd like some time to hang out and talk as well. I'm not big on watching movies with people--I mean, I like going to the movies with my friends but I'm perfectly happy to go by myself.

Posted by Uhleeuh (Member # 6803) on :

I'd love to meet you guys/gals if you do something in Tucson but I am a poor college student, meaning I have about 29 cents to my name and won't see any income anytime soon, and I don't have a vehicle to get around.

Posted by PSI Teleport (Member # 5545) on :

Well, I'd love to get together but my lame Nissan is not going to be making that trip again. It's going to be a while before it's in that kind of running order. I'm considering taking the Justy but I'm afraid I might die on the Interstate.

But I desperately need to meet Uhleeuh, Wendybird, and Shigosei, and hopefully see some more of the people I already know. We've got to figure something out.

If nothing else, we seem to have enough for a little Tucson thingy.

Uhleeuh: Are you within walking distance of Frogs n Firkin?

Oh, I was just assuming you lived on campus.

I'm down on the east side. You?

Posted by Uhleeuh (Member # 6803) on :

I'm north of campus by a few miles, Prince and 1st.

Posted by PSI Teleport (Member # 5545) on :

Oh, and I forgot to say that I wouldn't mind seeing Sky Captain. I'd need a bit of warning for a babysitter, though, assuming Jes will be up for going. Also, evenings are really bad for me. Thought I'd throw that out. Sat. afternoons work best.

Posted by Shigosei (Member # 3831) on :

Saturday afternoons would be great for me.

Posted by Wendybird (Member # 84) on :

Sat afternoons work good for me too. Dh delivers pizza at night so I have no car. (My van hates me and won't run for me long story) Anyway I am not sure what Sky Captain is even about so I don't know if its my kinda movie or not... I haven't seen movies in so long and I hardly ever rent any. Sigh. Being poor really stinks.

Posted by PSI Teleport (Member # 5545) on :

Now, let me get some stuff straight.

Pooka can't make a Saturday afternoon because she won't be here on a Saturday.

Shigosei and Wendy can't do weekday evenings. Would a weekday evenings be more plausible if rides were involved?

I'm just trying to figure out a way we can all go.

I mean, I'm assuming it's going to be in Tucson. The three of us down here can't make it north. [Smile]

How about going to the Estrella War at the Estrella national park in febuary. I'll be there on presedints Day. I have a freind that has given me an open invitation to stay with him and the group he's with.

[Dont Know] [Wave]

I'll still be around on Saturday!

Is anyone besides ludosti LDS? There is a broadcast event on saturday night (can you believe that had I been home, I would have had tickets to the actual event?) that I want to try and go to. Of course, I could just show up at a church I find in the yellow pages as well. I think it would be starting at 5 your time, so I could just ask someone in Utah to tape it for me if that is the one thing that would foul up our plans.

P.S. If we do settle on a Tucson gathering, I would have space for 3 in my van from Phoenix/Scottsdale.

Maybe we can have a get together at the condo in Scottsdale earlier in the week and the Tucson one on Saturday.

Oooh, that sounds good! Then we could all get some time together. At least half of it has to be in Tucson. [Smile]

Posted by Shigosei (Member # 3831) on :

Pooka, I would appreciate a ride from you if that works out. Since you asked, I am not LDS, but if the event is important to you, I'm sure arrangements can be made so that you can go.

Posted by pooka (Member # 5003) on :

I can't find the broadcast info, but I will just prepare to record it before I leave home. I want to add that to my to do list. I'll make sure PSI has my cell phone info- I thought my cell phone didn't work last time we were down there but it turns out it does.

Posted by Uhleeuh (Member # 6803) on :

So, are you guys aiming at making it this Saturday or a Saturday in general?

Posted by PSI Teleport (Member # 5545) on :

Saturday the 25th.

Posted by PSI Teleport (Member # 5545) on :

Oh kay, people. The good news is that Mr. Fanta has decided to join us, and I was able to get a babysitter! w00t!

The bad news is that no one will get to hear my 3-year-old son sing the fhqwhgads song. *sigh* You'll all be missing out. It's pretty good. He even freestyles it a bit here and there, like this:

"I asked my friend Joe, I asked my friend Jake, they said it was fah-hoo-kwah-diaper."

Anyway, I'm aiming for early afternoon on the 25th. Is that okay with everyone? I'm also hoping to go to the El Con Theater since it's pretty easy to get to from the Interstate, and it's near the mall. If someone has a suggestion for a better theater or anything, feel free to comment. I tend to take over things.

Jes and I will be able to give a ride to Alea or Wendy if needed. (Is Wendy your real name?) Also, I have accumulated some phone numbers but if anyone wants to exchange with me that hasn't already, my email's in the profile. : )

I'm so excited. I think Bunchings are the thing I have come to look forward to most all year. [Big Grin]

Well, since it is in motion, I suppose I'll actually have to say that pending a crisis at work, I'll be there all day Saturday.

Pooka- I am planning on attending that broadcast and having ice cream with some friends afterward so you can come with me if you'd like.

PSI- I'll email you my phone #

I can get my dh to watch the kids in the afternoon and make arrangements for a sitter for when he has to go to work.

My real name is not Wendy but I answer to it [Wink]

I'm looking forward to this!

It currently appears that if the meeting will be in Tucson, I won't have enough time to get back so my wife can go to that LDS women's broadcast, so unless I can figure out an alternative, I won't be able to make it since I'll be watching the kiddos.

Posted by PSI Teleport (Member # 5545) on :

Well, I'm hoping we can do very early afternoon, so maybe we can get you out of Tucson early enough to get back in time. [Smile]

Posted by pooka (Member # 5003) on :

Okay, does anyone know for sure when the RS broadcast happens in Arizona time? I looked for it all over yesterday and couldn't find out. Specifically, if it is a time constraint for you are we taking into account any pre-broadcast festivities? (a light dinner is often served before.) And is the plan to get together first and then go to a movie if folks want to? Or just movie?

If I had my "druthers" (never used that on hatrack, I don't think) we'd hang out for a bit, possibly with some munchies, and then 4 ish the movie people could go on to the movie and the Church satellite people could disperse for that. That's what I'm envisioning. Input?

Posted by ludosti (Member # 1772) on :

I think it's at 7pm.

I didn't pay that much attention to when it was because I'm going to be out of town (up in Montana), so I won't be watching it anyway....

Posted by PSI Teleport (Member # 5545) on :

Actually, that could work. The problem is that if it's at 5pm in Utah it's 4pm in Pheonix. Or am I misunderstanding the time thing? Maybe we could do lunch, then a movie at two or three so the broadcast people will have plenty of time to get back?

edit: Oh, that's later. A lot later.

Lunch sounds good to me. I was already taking the time shift into account, I think it happens at 6 in Utah, which would be 5 there I think. But I could be wrong and I can't find the right info. But the broadcast could be delayed, per ludosti's comment. Is just shooting for lunch worse for anyone?

P.S. ludosti, when do you go? Any chance of the scottsdale get together, on the 21 or 22?

A Scottsdale get-together 21st or 22nd could possible work for me (and/or slacker), depending on what time of day we meet (we leave the 23rd).

Broadcast is 6 UT time and 5 AZ time. My wife has a dinner at 4 meaning I'd need to leave Tucson by 2:30 to make it back up in time for her to get to the church that is a good 20 minutes away from the house where it's showing.

Scottsdale would work for me (I work in Scottsdale) early next week as well.

Posted by Wendybird (Member # 84) on :

Hey Pooka--do you know if the broadcast will be on KBYU? I'm considering staying home to watch it if it is. It'll depend on dh's work schedule that day. I don't want to impose my kids on someone for too long!

Posted by pooka (Member # 5003) on :

KBYU rebroadcasts the RS conference at 8 pm MDT. You get KBYU, or do you mean BYUTV? You can check kbyu.org for listings.

Okay, for the Scottsdale shindig why don't we say Tuesday Sept 21 in the evening, say 7? We can play some party games. I have National Geographic global pursuit and a cleaned up version of Therapy. Back before we knew the whole family had OCD we removed most of the questions about sex. Email me for directions and contact info. The email link deal for hatrack seems to work inconsistently, so you probably need to type in my address manually to your email program. I think.

Posted by Architraz Warden (Member # 4285) on :

Just a public note, for all intents and purposes I should be able to make the Scottsdale gathering (that is assuming I can walk / drive more than the bare minimum by then).

Feyd Baron, DoC

Posted by pooka (Member # 5003) on :

O_o We could always bring the gathering to you...

P.S. I don't have anyone's info to get in touch, but PSI has all my phone numbers. I think I even managed to erase Ludosti's number, though mine is still the same if she kept it. [Smile]

Pooka, I sent you my numbers via GMS at GalacticCactus. Did you not get them?

Posted by Wendybird (Member # 84) on :

Yeah, I meant BYUTv. The broadcast is at 5 AZ time.

Posted by peterh (Member # 5208) on :

Pooka,

I'm gonna try to make it Tuesday and I just sent an email to your hotmail acct.

Posted by ludosti (Member # 1772) on :

I wasn't special enough to get pooka's number in the first place.... [Cry]

I will try to make it Tuesday night, but it's looking more and more like I won't be able to. [Frown]

Also, I checked today, and our stake is reshowing the RS broadcast at 7pm, so you may be able to see it at that time also, depending on the stake....

Posted by ludosti (Member # 1772) on :

Ok, I just talked with Pooka. We would like to know if 7 pm (Tuesday) is a good time for everyone? They are at the Sheraton Desert Oasis (in Scottsdale) and she said they've got seating for at least 7 people there in their suite. So, please let me know what all of you are thinking (or drop me an email if you'd like her phone number so you can talk to her yourself). [Big Grin]

Posted by peterh (Member # 5208) on :

I still think I can make it tomorrow.

Posted by Wendybird (Member # 84) on :

So what are the Saturday plans? I have to have the car back to my dh by 4:15. I'm not going to go to the broadcast after all because of car troubles.... So when are we meeting, where, what are we doing??????

Wendy

Posted by PSI Teleport (Member # 5545) on :

Okay, we are meeting for lunch, and I'm going to talk to Feyd about where and when since he seems to want to go to Bison Witches, and that sounds good.

Then, I think we should see a showing of "Sky Captain" sometime around 1:30-2:00, and the people that need to go to the broadcast can do so, and the others can see the movie. I'll get some more exact times if this general plan sounds okay to everyone.

Posted by Architraz Warden (Member # 4285) on :

I second this plan. (Will we meet somewhere first, and then go to BW, or just meet there?)

Oh, and I think I'll be at the Scottsdale thing tomorrow night.

Feyd Baron, DoC

Posted by PSI Teleport (Member # 5545) on :

Let's meet at BW. I'll get a time for the movie and we'll plan our BW meetup time around that.

Posted by Architraz Warden (Member # 4285) on :

I'd recommend starting lunch around 11:00 - 11:30, if only to avoid some of the lunch rush. Now that those pesky college students are back, it'll probably be busy during some of the lunch rush.

Alright, aince we are meeting there. Directions (We had a breakdown in finding this place before, let's see if we can avoid that this time.)

Bison Witches is located at 326 N. 4th Avenue (Tucson of course). It is on the east (Rincon) side of the street (4th Ave) between E 7th and 8th Streets. There, that should be sufficiently clear.

Now, for those Phoenicians or Tucsonans who aren't that familiar with Tucson, just tell me where you'll be coming from, and I or another Arizona-type person can probably fill in the missing gaps.

Feyd Baron, DoC

Posted by Wendybird (Member # 84) on :

Please tell me what kind of place Bison Witches is? Just from the name it doesn't sound like a place I'd want to go to [Wink] What kinds of food, atmosphere? How much moola should I bring....

Posted by Architraz Warden (Member # 4285) on :

Now now, what have we learned about judging books by their covers? BWs tends to win best cheap eats anytime there is a competition in Tucson. Honestly, I don't think I've heard a negative (or neutral) thing about the place other than it does get busy during peak hours.

Their specialties are sandwiches and soup (in a bread bowl). They also have salads, though I can't say I've had any of those.

Prices are somewhere between "cheap" and "McDonalds" (I think six bucks is the most you can pay for something on the menu).

Atmosphere, at least during lunch would be considered family. There's a huge U-shaped bar, but nothing indecent. It's also non-smoking during mealtime hours.

On second thought, I think I could just dig up the menu

Well, I suppose no thread it pun-proof. Now go away and back to your regional threat.

Posted by TMedina (Member # 6649) on :

Actually, it was an honest typo - I always end up misspelling sandwich.

Um...sorry, did it again.

-Trevor

Posted by Wendybird (Member # 84) on :

Oh my those sandwiches look delicious! Lets pray my dh makes super good tips this week so we can cover the rather large boo boo I made in the checking account so I can have a few bucks to indulge. Now to decide what sandwich..... I'd better study this out all week [Wink] [Big Grin]

Hey, we made a... searching for the word... foray?... to the Tempe Library. Don't know if it was ever as rusticated as in "Raising Arizona" but at any rate the place is much more STNG nowadays. Haven't checked "suburban Tempe" though. Is the Maricopa county maximum security correctional facility for men really here? Anywho...

Hope to see some folks tonight! Shigosei, if you want a ride saturday make sure and Email me [Smile]

Posted by PSI Teleport (Member # 5545) on :

Okay, people. We have Sky Captain at El Con at 12:25 and 2:00. 12:25 is going to be too early to see it unless we want to cram sandwiches while driving to the theatre, so I propose the 2:00 pm showing at the El Con Theatre (at the El Con Mall near Broadway and Alvernon), which would make 11:30 am a good time to meet at Bison Witches. Plenty of time to sit, eat, chat, and drive down to the theatre around 1:30.

Sound okay? Problems anyone? Alea, how's your weekend looking?

Posted by Architraz Warden (Member # 4285) on :

I'm good with that general plan for the weekend.

Sorry Scottsdalians. I was held at work until about 7:30, and was too sapped to make it to the gathering (actually, and more accurately, I was too sapped to remember the gathering.)

Hopefully I'll catch y'all at BW's this weekend.
