So I'm really curious...

What are Sting, Enya and Maddonna's real names? I think I used to know Maddonna's... but I'm more interested of what Sting;s real name is.

Many celebrities change their names. I know that Meg Ryan's real name is Peggy.. Smith...or was it Scott... I forgot. But Peggy! [Big Grin]

Peggy is a form of Margaret, so you're both right.

From IMDb:

Madonna: Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone

Sting: Gordon Matthew Sumner

Enya: Eithne Ní Bhraonáin

Enya's only 5'2". For some reason I thought she was tall. I'm not sure I can come to terms with the fact that she's shorter than me.

Click on Peggy and then Meg. I used poor wording, but I'm not completely wrong.

I see the link, but it doesn't explain how exactly you derive one from the other.

Don't know that I can explain it either - but Peggy is a common Nickname for people named Margaret. I know of at least two Margarets that go by Peggy.

Kind of like Dick is nick for Richard, Bill for William, etc. I don't know how they come up with them.

How did Gordon get the name Sting I wonder?
[Confused]

I know!

He used to wear a yellow and black striped sweater all the time, and his friends nicknamed him "Sting."

I thought the point of a nickname was to shorten a real name to one syllabe, that's why I have such a hard time understanding why the nickname for "John" is "Jack". Does anyone know the answer to this little quandary?
