I was wondering which persuasions people had on Sci-Fi novels vs. Traditional Fantasy ones.

Or do you prefer a combination of Sci-Fi and Fantasy (magic and machine)?

I for one like a little of both. I'm not a big fan of the "mixed bag" (which is what Dark Tower is kind of isn't it? I haven't read it).

What kind do you prefer the most?

I prefer fantasy.

I guess I'm just a traditional kinda girl.

I'm admittedly more drawn to fantasy.

I read both, although I own more sci-fi and have been reading more sci-fi lately. I write fantasy. I like magical-science books.

I'm not particular [Smile] .

I dunno, fantasy nominally, but I don't like much of the fantasy I've read in recent years, and the Science Fiction has been better. All my novel ideas are fantasy, however.

I like both, and I like them in combination. I tend to read a bit more sci-fi though.

I'm a total sci-fi gal. Although I do read fantasy as well. It's jus that sci fi is hard wired into me. And that includes all my novel ideas, too.

I read a lot more fantasy than scifi...but I pick up a scifi book every now and then.

As a genre I like Sci fi better, but I read more fantasy.

Sci-fi... Thoug I like mixed and fantasy, I'm for fantasy.

Fantasy has swords and dragons sometimes.
Sci Fi is mostly spaceships.
Swords and dragons are cooler than spaceships I think...
But, hybrids are always cool too. So it's hard to decide.

I'm not too particular about the genre as long as I find it well written. My two favorite books are China Mountain Zhang, which would fall onto the SF side of things, and A Song of Ice and Fire (yes, I know, I'm stretching things more than a bit by considering that one book, and I'm essentially saying that I've only read half of one of my two favorite books, but what can you do), which would fall onto the fantasy side.

Although I read pretty much everything - except erotica or anything closely resembling that, or westerns.

But I like historical, fantasty, mystery, adventure, and, oh my goodness, I can't think what else. I'm a voracious reader, and sometimes I get tired of reading sci fi, so I'll go pick on another genre for a while until I get tired of that, then switch to another, and so on.

It's just that sci fi is the best for me. [Smile]

Both Sci-Fi and Fantasy are good. Both have their merits, but I prefer to keep them seperate.

Fantasy is better. I don't like sci-fi as much.

I have a deep, deep mistrust of anything fantasy... Too much of it is the harlequin stuff with a big manly warrior who goes to rescue the scantily clad female from the dragons and goblins...

But fantasy well-done is very good. Like The Lord of the Rings. Or the Alvin series. Or the Narnia books.

But I'm much more of a science-fiction geek, I think.

I prefer scifi. I think its because I can almost understand living in a futuristic world more than in one with magic and such.

You know, I realized a couple of years ago that I hadn't read either of these two genres -- so I immediately set to work remedying that situation. I still haven't read a western...

I like the sort of book where the sf/f dichotomy is an irrelevance.
