This thread can go in any new direction you want. FOr starters I would like to compare Windows 98 and ME.

Please give your input, and if you want another comparison, go ahead.

Thanks [Hat]

Ugh...ME? I cast off that yoke years ago.

"Set my computers FREE!"

EDIT: Oops, the why....I had so many bugs and glitches and freeze-ups with ME. Upgraded to XP and all of those problems were solved.

This is like asking who we prefer: Bentzen or Quayle.

As a computer tech, I have heard of nothing but problems from Windows ME, yet with Windows 98 -- I still have one machine at home I continue to run it on with no problems.

I will have to qualify this to say most of the people I know who had ME problems were those using the UPGRADE to move from 98 to ME, not those people who bought a new machine with a fresh ME install instead of the upgrade.

I have ME that wasn't an upgrade, it came on my then new computer, and I have had many problems with it.

Freezing(which means I have to improperly shut it down), black/blue screens( which again means I have to improperly shut it down), low resources (20-50%), just to name a few.

Since I'm not a computer whiz, I have no idea if those are at all connected to the fact that I have ME or if it's that I have a Compaq(I've heard nothing good about those), but I preferred 98 anyway; I like Word/Excel better than Works.

Understand when I say this that I'm aware of Microsoft Bob:

Windows ME is quite possibly the worst product MS has ever released. This is in large part because it was made almost as an afterthought. Originally, MS wanted Win2000 to be the grand joining of the two branches of Windows (the NT line and the 95 line), but there were too many compatibility problems that they couldn't work out in time (they finally got this right with XP). So, they decided to work on those problems from the 98 side and bring that line closer to the NT platform.

It didn't work.

On the other hand, Win98 (particularly SE) can actually be a worthwhile operating system, though of course XP is far superior.

Windows ME is just one of two products for which I've ever had a Microsoft employee apologize to me personally. [Smile]

That's a tough one. You see, I don't know YOU very well.
