*snip*
While the disc can theoretically be eaten, it is coated by a 0.1-millimeter (0.004-inch) thick layer of resin and is too hard for even the strongest teeth.

Awesome. I'll be buying some.

Err. Okay, so it's not quite like the disks we buy at CompUSA. But maybe it will be eventually!

I'm suprised that noemon can stand such a savage beating that would make him travel to a science link and yet still be able to post a smilie

I wish they would decide to release this sooner rather than later. 25gb's + on a single disc would be sweet.

*BUMP*
Okay, I really miss Noemon's frequent updates on the latest in science. Thus I'm bumping this thread, to post how cool I think this is:
We might have a brain programming glitch that gets (some of) us all fired up about what other people are doing around us. There is a brief nod that this may have some implications for understanding the characteristics of the autism spectrum, but that still seems quite speculative.

Interesting article.

This was the only bit that jumped out at me. It hints at a rather common misunderstanding of evolution. There are many possible reasons why such genes would not be selected against. It all depends on how you define "self-interest."
