I never added any extensions to Firefox because I was afraid that adding more elements to Firevox would slow down the browser and make my computer more vulernable to hacker attacks.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

I use Sage for RSS/Atom feeds. It's not as robust and usable as an actual RSS reader, but it works for my needs.

See my first post here. I have about 8 installed and haven't had any problems. I wouldn't worry about security as long as you get extensions from trustworthy sites, such as update.mozilla.org The Extensions Mirror Or mozdev
Give the extension Authors a few days to update for 1.0
