Well for those who don't know, I got a new job. Finally. Unemployment might be coming in for a few weeks...so that's good. Took alot of fighting to get that money. A good thing too since I'm way behind on my car and insurance and phone bills....
[Angst]

I'm working for Oakwood Hospital group...as a security guard again. Yay. [Dont Know]

And it's only partime... [Grumble]

but it's something. I'll be guarding the retirement community... taking care of the old dying poeple... which is rather intimidating let me tell you. I love old people...but not when I'm responsible for if they live or die. Especially because I'll be in charge of the lifeline system, a button they push that's on their person in an emergency (or if they want a drink of water).

A new learning experiance. [Smile]

So I must now begin the search for a second job. I'm thinking Boarders books, since I love books...and they should be hiring for the holidays. My play, "Women Behind Bars", is about to start this Friday. We are SOOoo not ready. Should be intersting how everybody is going to pull this off. Heheh... we should be ok, but there was seriously not enough time to rehears. Ah well.

"Battle for Middle-earth" the RTS game comes out soon. CAN'T WAIT! [The Wave]

I so need to play the Gondorian Empire and lead my soldiers of the White Tree to victory!!

Big O the Second Season comes out even sooner! Long live Paradigm City! [Smile]

AND ROTK:EE comes out in a month or so too!!!! YAY for more Denethor scenes! [Party]

Hey, glad that you've gotten something, even if it is just part time. I have no idea where you live, but if they have Trader Joes in your area, they pay assloads of money, even to their part time help, and treat their employees really well. I've considered ditching my "professional" computer job to work at a Trader Joes, actually.

That lifeline thing is important -- and I'm sure it will be a good learning experience for you as well. We recently, in our city, had a news story of an elderly lady that pushed her lifeline button to summon help -- not because she had fallen or anything like that -- but because her house was on fire and she couldn't get out. She was rescued just in time. SHe was like 96 or something. It was a cool story that she thought to do that.

Yay! I'm glad you got a new job, Telp... and you know if you keep looking and find somehting fulltime you can always still take that. But part-time at a bookstore, yum! My paychecks would disappear under the temptation of the employee discount.

When I was little, I used to love to hold copper pennies in my mouth. I liked the metallic feel and the taste. Now I am aware I could have easily choked to death if I had tripped. Butt given the payment practices of some businesses, well ... I really am pretty lucky to be alive.

I have come to believe that the word "ass" is one of Jake's favorite words. He uses it here, and has used it many times in the photo threads (like ElJays butt photo thread).

, I suspect Trader Joe's would be a store you would enjoy. Lots of organic groceries, and good wine. I'm actually surprised if they don't have any in Madison.

Though the ones I've been to here in the Chicago area are a far cry from the huge warehouse one I remember in CA.

And Telpy, I'm proud of you. Hang in there and keep us posted!

No, it was just the assloads that concerned me. [Smile]

We have a Whole Foods, which seems similar in some ways (but not others, of course) to Trader Joe's. There was almost a Trader Joe's buy-in recently when one of the local surrounding neighborhood grocery stores was closed, but it went to a second site for the Willy Street Co-Op instead.

We also have a few Brennan's and an employee-owned Woodman's.

But see, those are ass related, but not ass and *money* related. I've been trying to come up with some obscure currency that sounds like an ass related word, but so far no luck.

And Farmgirl, you're onto me. Somehow "ass" and "crap" find their way into my speech fairly often. "Ass" just sounds funny to me, for some reason. Kind of like "underpants"--it's just a funny word.

As for how much Trader Joes pays, it depends on experience. I think that an unexperienced checker starts at about $10, which isn't great but is better than a lot of things out there, and goes up to $18-19/hr for the very experienced(the high end figures were told to me by a person I kind of know who works at Trader Joes. She could have been exaggerating). Looking at the benefits section of the employment section of their website, though, you can see that their compensation is generally pretty good--looks like a full time cashier's average first year salary is 40K, plus about 1K bonus and a 6K company contribution to their retirement account.

The only downside is that in order to advance within their organization you have to be willing to relocate. Of course, if you're single and don't have kids that can be a plus rather than a minus.

Good luck on the play, Telp. It's one of the mysteries of the universe how performances come together once opening night comes. I do props for a semi-professional ballet company, and sometimes things seem hopeless all the way up to dress rehearsal. A couple of years ago we did a new production of "Cinderella", and I never saw the whole thing put together and using all props until dress, because that's when all the guest dancers from out of town were there all at once for the first time. It was horrible. But, you know what? Everything just fell into place on opening night. Of course, it seems like the worse the dress, the better opening night is.

Not that much. Fair deal of overlap in what is carried; Trader Joe's comes out WAY ahead on price, and new and varied items. Whole Foods comes out ahead on snob appeal. [Razz]
