Whats your take on this? I think its an interesting problem, but I'm not stuck there dealing with it. Sort of all stems from the fact that florida was mostly swamp.

Anyway the 10ppb Phosphorus level seems absurd. Number 1, polutant levels shouldn't be part of the law, but part of the enforcement. And furthermore, it seems kinda low, legally allowed lead levels in drinking water is anything upto 15 ppb (in Philadelphia at least).

*wince* Oh, good. Now the Kissimmee becoming the Kill-me (now fixed) won't be the worst example of Florida natural resource management.

I can see the point of letting the Everglades return to a natural state, but I think there's been too much damage done. Kind of like hunting. I have no desire to kill a deer, but it's more humane than allowing them to starve to death on insufficient land.

Whether we like it or not, the Okachobee and Everglades have changed dramatically over the years. (Personally, I blame the recent droughts on draining the Okachobee for farmland. That much surface water has to affect local weather systems.) I think we need to do the best we can by them. Unfortunately, people have built along the edges of the swamp. Much as I love nature, I believe human lives must take precedence.

Allowing the Everglades to return to their natural state would put farmers out of work and close local businesses. People would lose their homes. The damage to the people of south Florida is too great considering the expanse of Everglades we still have.
