In late-breaking news, it was just discovered that several hours ago Harry Potter climbed to the roof of a rural family's home in what can only be described as a misguided suicide attempt.

Witness say that Harry had appeared distraught earlier in the afternoon, but never did they expect the dramatic events that followed. A young girl in the area was heard to cry repeatedly, "Why, Harry, why?"

Thinking a family member could provide insight, witnesses questioned Potter's brother Crookshanks . Crookshanks was obviously upset himself, and answered, "Hey, I don't know what's going on here. We just took our first-ever car ride, and then we get dropped off in this wilderness. I mean, it's nothing like the garage we used to live in. What the heck is this green stuff everywhere?"

Witness attempted to soothe Crookshanks while continuing to coax Harry Potter down. At one point it appeared their pleas would work, as Harry appeared to be ready to come back down safely. However, a large dog was among the spectators, and apparantly Harry doesn't care for dogs.

Finally, after a three hour stand-off, Potter did indeed make his way safely to the ground. When asked what had prompted the suicide attempt, Potter only answered, "Give me some Meow Mix man. I'm tired."

But that roof is just so appealing. I'd want to climb it, too.

I'm confused! Did this really happen with a cat named Harry Potter and Crookshanks and you just took advantage and made the rest up? Or did you build the story around the pictures?

What goes up, must come down. Eventually.

Glad Harry's okay.

It really happened. Harry Potter and Crookshanks are our new kitties, and they finally arrived this afternoon. Oh, and Harry Potter is the female; that's what happens when a 6 year old names a cat.

edit: The dog is ours too - Max.

This is insane. The cats have a very nice insulated house, which we've showed them several times. Their food and water is located directly beside it.

Umm, they won't use it. Instead, Harry Potter has now encouraged her brother Crookshanks to climb up on the roof as well. Last night we were woken by cat meows at 3:30am. Harry had managed to climb down to our bedroom balcony; Crookshanks was on the roof above the balcony.

It's now 8:50am, and they're still there. Still meowing. Loudly. I've tried to coax Crookshanks down, thinking that them I could carry them both down to the cathouse afterwards. Crookshanks is a bit too scared to do much of anything. Oh, and it's been raining all night and morning, so he is completely soaked. He has sat up on the roof in the rain all night, like some kind of weirdo feline lightning rod.

What do I do?

The roof may be warmer because of heat loss from your house. Of course, I'd imagine not in the rain. Hrm. Maybe they're really afraid of the dog and/or other animals.

Guess I'd get out a ladder and try to retrieve them, but that sucks.

This title is cruel.

Cruel? It was supposed to be funny; if it offends you in any way I can certainly change it, PSI.

Christy, I would love to just be able to climb up there and get him. I can actually reach the roof easily from either the upper balcony or the lower without a ladder. Problem is, it's an A-frame, so with the rain I'm pretty sure I'd end up with a broken limb. I've kept the dog in all day (he doesn't like rain anyway) and just went out to check on the kitties. Harry climbed down easily from the upper balcony to the lower. Crookshanks is still too chicken to come down. [Frown]
