I unplugged my computer and moved it across the room, now the start menu has vanished. Any ideas on how to get it back? I am sure it is something easy, but what that easy thing is, I dont know.

What version of windows? It sounds like explorer crashed. hit CTRL - ALT - DEL this is where depending on your version of windows you'll do different things. Basically though you just want to start a new program (like start> run) but with whatever comes up . If it is XP goto Task Manager > File > New Task > explorer (In 98, the task manager should just come up, and do the same file > new task (or process) > explorer.

Sometimes the taskbar accidentally gets made smaller by dragging the top edge down, rendering it hidden.
Try mousing around the bottom of the screen until the top end of a two-headed arrow appears, then drag up.
I've had it happen several times when moving a computer while it's running, because the touch pad or mouse got jostled or pinched between two things on the desk.
