I think that Hatrackers should celebrate Monty Python on every Friday the 13th because it is a silly day. As well as on April 1st. Monty Python were geniuses, and rarely get enough credit. So who is with me?

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

I'm on board. Personally I think every day should be MP Appreciation Day, but I'm willing to settle for this lesser honor.

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

Ok fine..........every Thursday? Thats a silly day. So we will celebrate Monty Python every Thursday. How does that sound?

Posted by WheatPuppet (Member # 5142) on :

How about every second thursday of the month. MP is awesome and such, but hearing the "dead parrot" sketch every thursday would certainly wear on one's spirit. [Smile]

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

Ok fine.........compromise.....every second Thursday of the month....we need an official sounding name for it though....any suggestions?

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

What'd you have in mind?

I think we should add a day just for Tim the Enchanter too. We could call it the Day of Enchantment.

Count me in.

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

Maybe we could call it..........Festival of the Holy Grail ......or..........Enlightenment Day(Meaning of Life).............or............Celebrate Jesus Look-Alikes Day(Life of Brian)........pick one or supply other options

It could be called "What kind of snake is that?" Day, because the title would be just as silly and nonsensical as much of the subject matter [Smile]

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

Sounds good.....so every second Thursday of the month we will celebrate.....What Kind of Snake is that? Day................on the said day we will quote Monty Python.......watch it......and wear Monty Python related clothing.....and anything else Pythonesque............

Posted by DocCoyote (Member # 5612) on :

Are we starting tomorrow, even though it isn't the second Thursday? 'Cause it is the second Thursday after Christmas, and we don't have to be bound by such things as the calendar.

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

I think that is a better idea. Lets not set a specific day(other than Thursday). Lets all celebrate it in our own was on any Thursday we feel the need to. It just seem more Monty Pythonish to me. Don't you think? So lets do it!!

Posted by Teshi (Member # 5024) on :

But I have no Python to watch; what will I do? [Cry]

I agree with everything above. But I think we should be able to declare any day of the week the "second thursday of the month" at will. Yesterday, for example, was a wednesday, but had a distinctly thursday-ish undercurrent.

I therefore plan to celebrate yesterday today by performing the fish slapping dance...

If you have a subscription to Netflix, they have the 30th (I think) Anniversary BBC Python special, which is outstanding. Get it into your queue, and stand by the mailbox.

So any day you choose can be What kind of snake is that? Day.......this is so Monty Pythonish......thats why it is awesome [Party]

For the moment, Spamalot is only playing in Chicago. Once it gets through its trial run here, it heads off to Broadway.

As for the actual play, basically any sketch that was in the movie is reproduced ad verbatim in the play. However, Idle added plenty more to the show that makes it worthwhile. The fact that the search for the grail is nearly dropped and replaced with some great new material is more then enough reason to see it.

Here's a systematic celebration, for Rowan Atkinson's jubilee.

1) On every odd month of the year, the second Sunday will be celebrated with the purchasing of Norwegian Blues, and on the third Monday they will be nailed to the cage.

2) On even months of the year, during weekends, every person will walk a Silly Walk; preferably in public.

3) During Christmas, each shall say the "J" name of Lord God, and throw stones at priests.

4) On Thursday the 12th, each shall celebrate The Penultimate Supper. Friends, guests and waiters are all welcome; marsupials are to be sitting in the back. Three people are to have golden rings on their head; two skinny, one fat. Judas must look Jewish.

5) On Friday the 13th, groups of 4 will join for a reunion in Yorkshire, discussing their fathers' methods of murder.

6) On the 1st of April, all students are to change their names; two shall be named Nibble and Orifice, respectively. If there is a Plectrum, he or she must be tweakable. Undermanagers welcome.

SteveRogers, fullstops are the English, and presumably from Kama's usage of them, the European translation way of saying "period" as in at the end of a sentance. <-- like that

We'll not risk another frontal assault that rabbit's dynamite.

(skip a little bit)

Brother Maynard bring down the Holy Hand Grenade!

(Monks descend while chanting)

Chapter 22 from Arnaments.....

Brother Rupert(Not the real name I can't remember it)held up the Hand Grenade to the Lord and said,"Dear Lord, Bless this thou Hand Grenade so that we may blow your enemies to pieces in your mercy!"

And the Lord did grin....and granted his wish.

The people feasted on numerous things: ham, brocoli, turkey, breakfast cereals, oraungutauns....

(Brother Maynard interrupts)Skip a little bit there brother....

(Resuming his reading)To use this thou Holy Hand Grenade....first you must remove the pin...and then count to three...not four...nor two unless so proceeding to three....five is right out...

Thank you brother.

(King Arthur pulls out the pin)1,2,5

(Lancelot interrupts) 3, Lord!

(King Arthur corrects himself) 3!!!

Kabooooooooooooooooooom!!!!!!!!!!

(This is not word for word....this is the best I could remember.)

Is that what that translates as?
"Pies lesthu domine, dona [something] requiem." I think that's what they're saying.

From my vauge rememberances of Latin, Domine is God, Dona is gift, and Requiem is question.

"Pie Jesu Domine. Dona eis requiem."

SMACK!

EDIT: Or that's the traditional. Is it not that?

Teshi, the captions on my DVD won't tell me what they're really saying, but that is what it sounds like to me.

And one of my favorites....
"I don't wanna talk to you no more, you empty-headed animal food-trough wiper! I fart in your general direction. Your mother was a hamster, and your father smelt of elderberries!"

KNIGHT: "NONE SHALL PASS!"

ARTHUR: "I have no quarrel with you sir Knight, but I must cross this bridge."

KNIGHT: "THEN YOU SHALL DIE!"

ARTHUR: "I command you, as King of the Britains, to stand aside!"

KNIGHT: "I move for no man."

ARTHUR: "So be it!"

*They fight, Arthur cuts off knights arm.*

ARTHUR: "Now stand aside, worthy adversary."

KNIGHT: "'Tis but a scratch."

ARTHUR: "A scratch? You're arms off!"

KNIGHT: "No it isn't!"

ARTHUR: "Well whats that then?"

KNIGHT: "...I've had worse!"

ARTHUR: "You lair!!"

KNIGHT: "Come on you pansy!"

ARTHUR: "Victory is mine!"

*Arthur begins praying, Knight kicks him*

KNIGHT: "Come on then."

ARTHUR: "What?"

KNIGHT: "Have at you!"

ARTHUR: "You are indeed brave sir Knight, but the fight is mine."

KNIGHT: "Oooh, had enough eh?"

ARTHUR: "Look you stupid bastard, you've got no arms left!"

KNIGHT: "Yes I have."

ARTHUR: "LOOK!"

KNIGHT: "Its just a flesh wound."

*Knight continues to kick Arthur*

ARTHUR: "Look, stop that."

KNIGHT: "Chicken, chicken!"

ARTHUR: "Look, I'll have your leg... Right!"

*cuts off knights leg*

KNIGHT: "Right, I'll do you for that!"

ARTHUR: "You'll what?!"

KNIGHT: "Come 'ere!"

ARTHUR: "What are you gonna do, bleed on me?"

KNIGHT: "I'm invincible!"

ARTHUR: "You're a looney."

KNIGHT: "The Black Knight always triumphs! Have at you! Come on then."

ARTHUR: "All right, we'll call it a draw. Come Patsy!"

KNIGHT: "Ooohoh, I see. Runnin' away are eh? You yellow bastards! Come back here and take whats comin' to ya! I'll bite yer legs off!!!"

[Big Grin]
