I got 6/10 clicking randomly, because I hadn't a clue for any of them.

Now people who are afraid of peanut butter sticking to the top of their mouth- do they just not eat peanut butter? How does such a fear develop?

Nine out of ten. The only one I got wrong was number two. I could reasonably see it being either of the first two answers, so I had to guess which one. I guessed the wrong one. [Grumble]

I got 8/10, also. I guess well. I have scanned numerous phobia lists, but I haven't ever been able to find ones for the fear of mold or the fear of seaweed. Apparently, I am so weird, they didn't even bother to name my phobias. Go me.

However, I must say that like necrophilia, it's not that it's so weird that someone has that problem, it's that enough people have that they had to give it a name that's the weird thing.

Well, it's funny as heck, but I could see how someone might develop a fear of their tongue sticking to the roof of their mouth.

It only happens if you put too much in your mouth. If you're eating correctly, there's little danger of having peanut butter get stuck to the roof of your mouth. I would say that I've had the combination of American cheese and mayonnaise from a sandwich stick to the roof of my mouth more often than peanut butter.

That said, I would never mock someone who legitimately had the phobia. I have enough phobias of my own to know that such people are not just "being ridiculous".

fungiphobia should fit for fear of mold. Some call that "fear of mushrooms," but properly speaking, that would be "mycophobia" so fungiphobia appears up for grabs and could apply to a fear of fungi in general.

As for fear of seaweed, it would probably depend on the species. For Giant Kelp -- as scary a plant as any on Earth -- you probably would call it "macrocystiphobia".

But if it's a different species, we can probably figure it out.

Naming your fear is the first step to conquering it.

I named mine "Fred."

I love that a huge word like Sesquipedalophobics describes fear of long words. How would this person not be recursively afraid of their own disorder? If they find out the name, does the fear recursively build up and cause spontaneous combustion?

I don't know, Bob, I love mushrooms, and I don't have a problem with mildew. (Maybe that's different, but it looks similar to mold, just less fuzzy.)

And yes, I fear seaweed. Of all kinds. My first thought when contemplating getting into a natural body of water is not "Will I be shark, alligator, or snapping turtle bait?" but "Will something remotely resembling seaweed threaten to choke the life out of me?" While raw fish isn't particularly appetizing, it's the seaweed that keeps me away from sushi.

Syn, you'd loose that fear if you saw the display at the local FYE. Whether intentional or not, it has a cardboard cutout of a lightsaber-wielding yoda stabbing a similarly papery George W. in the most sensitive of male areas.
If only I had a digital camera to capture that image.

Or would that make you more afraid of cardboard cutouts?

I have a phoby too. I am terribly affraid by Wasp. It's terrible in summer when my friends have dinner outside. If wasps arrive, I can't eat. I must get out of table. brrr... [Angst]

My husband put a standee of Say Anything in the back seat of our car once while we were at work and forgot to tell me about it. It scared the crap out of me when I looked into the rear view mirror and saw a guy in the back seat with a radio raised over his head like he was about to bash me. Silly men.
