For my 500th post, I want to honour Tom Davidson.

Despite his claims that he is an arrogant person, I think he's great: empathetic, friendly, considerate and persuasive. [Big Grin] It was he who commented on my poetry, virtually always led a sub-discusion in my threads, and persuaded me to stay on Hatrack. As wise as a 75 y.o., not quite 30 in age.

Now, that's a man full of dignity!

All hail Tom! All hail Tom! He is one who deserves an honour thread (although it's out of fashion by now).

Cheers, Tom, etc.,
Jonathan

EDIT: You are now entitled Sir Thomas of the Hatrackers, also knows as the Jatraqueros.

As if Tom's ego isn't big enough. Sheesh.

But, in the hope that I will be considered cool by association, I'm going to post here anyway.

You rock, Tom.

Kudos, Tom! Kudos! (watches intently)

Should it affect his value, Bokonon?

(Flashback, or as my mum says, backflash- "What are your TRUE expectations of Bokonon?".)

My Aunt: "Oh, don't worry, Jonathan! We would NEVER give you away for ANYTHING!"
Brother: "I don't know, I'd go for a Mars bar."

Beside, it was only a 'backflash'! I expect to go to the roombath and have a shower.

I just spent a little too long wondering if Tom would get a kick out of spelling honor with a "u" and feel it was more sophisticated, or if he would find it pretentious.

Did I infer incorrectly or are you suggesting I'm ostentatious for writing in British spelling? I'm Australian~!

That goes in your humour thread. Should we replace our titles to match? Humour + Honour?

I will admit, I have done that before. But for me it makes sense to search for "bev". And I pull up "beverages" far more than references to me. [Cry]

No no, JH, I was pondering which way Tom would spell honor. Wasn't suggesting anything about you, though I can see how that would be unclear from my post :X.

As an aside, which way to Canadians spell honor?

Posted by Jonathan Howard (Member # 6934) on :

Depends; my uncle (Saskatoon, Czech origin) spells "ise" and uses the "u"s.

Where is Thomas?

Yeah, yeah... but how do you spell honor/honour?

Posted by jeniwren (Member # 2002) on :

ladyday: "honour'eh" [Big Grin]

It's all about the Tom Love. I can't imagine Hatrack without him.

Posted by Ralphie (Member # 1565) on :

At one time I was so pitiful, when I made my landmark thread and Tom hadn't posted in it I sent him an e-mail asking why. Now I know Tom is all about the Ralphster, but it's a forbeeeden love.

At least, that's what I convincingly told my therapist, and I believe it!

Posted by beverly (Member # 6246) on :

Ooo! If no more threads of this nature are to be made, I better offer my praises!

Tom, I don't care if it makes your head bigger. You are one cool cat. And by "cool", I mean that you are amazing at keeping yours, as well as holding steady to what you believe is Good and Right. I respect and admire that.

Posted by Sara Sasse (Member # 6804) on :

Tom is quite simply one of the most fascinating people I've ever met. Calling him "friend" has been incorporated into how I define myself.

Don't even get me started on Christy, though. Wowza. [Wink]

I remember when I first got to Kamacon. I had never been on Hatrack so I knew no one. Tom and Kat gave be a brief quiz touching on LOTR, Holy Grail, and Star Wars. He concluded that I was Hatrack material and let me in. It was a nice welcome to Hatrack. [Smile]

You'll notice that the six hungry orphans I turned away -- mainly because they didn't recognize the line "I am Inigo Montoya" -- haven't posted on this thread. And it's not just because they starved on a streetcorner, either.

That said, thank you. [Smile] (I'll thank Christy privately.) But stop it.

Stop it? Can it be that there is a chink in Tom's armor (armour) and that he's ticklish?

*evil laugh*

Now we'll NEVAH stop praising you to the skies!! [Big Grin]

Seriously though, Hatrack wouldn't be Hatrack without Tom. What would it be? I have no idea, but certainly not Hatrack. He's an integral part of why we're the community we are, and I love that.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Generally, when Tom makes a reasonable request, I try to honor it. (We won't discuss the unreasonable requests.)

But given that we've been bound not to do this again, I feel I must ignore the cease-and-desist.

After driving a crowded car (containing, among others, a newborn) for many hours, Tom arrived at Kamacon to be greeted by someone desperately looking for a ride across town -- NOW! How many people would have simply, and quite reasonably, begged off? He must have been tired.

Tom is Good People. (Christy is too, but this is Tom's thread. [Wink] )

Thanks, Tom. [Smile]

I already said I don't believe in fairi--er, wait a second, wrong thread . . . .

Tom and Christy are indeed very cool, and ever since we met them, Cor and I have been insanely jealous of those of you who live near enough to them to be tangible friends, instead of merely virtual ones. *sigh*

We certainly are looking forward to seeing them again in March/April.

Tom, this thread is your just dessert for calling me a pillar of the commnunity. [Razz]

You must understand, Tom: Once we pop - we can't stop. You might not realise how important you are, and how essential you are for us being in Hatrack. You rock, Sir Thomas of Hatrack!

OK, I'll stop...

Listen, Wankery-butts: I am not doing you a favour, so at least give Tom the honour he deserves.

P.S. I never signed on the agreement, pact, or whatever it was - that I won't honour Tom: he does deserve it! So I had my second chance to expand his head until *pop*.

You could not possibly adore Tom D. more than I do, so that's not the issue. However, you are coming on a weeeeee bit strong. You may want to back of the pedal just a scootch, especially since he has requested it.

JH - I was referring to Christy, who is Tom's wife.

I know you don't like me because I teased you before, and I'm sure you're on the defensive. I apologize if I have insulted you. It actually wasn't intended. I know you're quite a bit younger than I am, and that makes me automatically have 'kid brother/older sister' vibes.

Again, my above comments were not intended to be insulting, merely helpful. And again, I apologize for any offense. [Smile]

Oh, I'm sure he likes HER more.

Also true, but not my point. Remember, Christy and Tom decided they wanted a baby. And Christy is a science-y type person -- she had a good idea of what pregnancy and labor would entail. But she signed up for it anyway.

Trust me, she has proven that she has more than a "slight lead." [Big Grin]

I was remiss to point it out earlier, but if you notice my first post doesn't say I like Tom the mostest, simply that I adored Tom more than Spanky, here. And I even used that expression - not to get in some lame contest - but to remove that element from my original point.

That's why I thought my comment about Christy having a slight lead was funny.

And that's the last joke I ever explain on Hatrack. [Smile]
