Today, my mom went to go work out, after doing her treadmill workout, she was cooling off, and a blood clot in her heart had caused fibrillation, which in turn caused her heart to stop. She dropped.
Lucky for her the person on the treadmill next to hers was a paramedic, and that they had defibrillation equipment at the fitness center; Otherwise she wouldn't have made it today.

She is okay for the moment, and they are moving her to another hospital in the morning (roughly 4-8 hours from now?) where she will eventually undergo a bypass surgery.

I post this not for pity or need of attention, I post this to let you know that there is some method to my madness.

This is not pity, this is just a hug, because I know that if I was at your place I would need it (and I hate pity).

(((((raventh))))) That totally sucks.

Well, if she had to have this happen, she would have had a difficult time picking a better time and place to have it. I'm glad that circumstances were what they were, and that she's in stable condition at this point.

Wow. Noemon's right -- if this had to happen, it was certainly in the right time and place.

My prayers go out to her and to you.

But "that was lucky" doesn't seem like the right sentiment.

Wow! [Eek!] Everything fine one minute, then suddenly everything changes.

You will be in my thoughts and prayers today.

Goodness, raventh. [Eek!] Like Noemon said, at least she was in just about the best possible place for such a thing to happen. I hope her surgery goes well and her recovery is rapid.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for her and her bypass. If you need anything, let me know, 'kay?

I agree with you, January sucks. That's scary. [Eek!]

My dad had quintuple bypass surgery something like fifteen years ago and is still going. I'll bet there have been major advances in bypass surgery since then, so I'm sure your mom's going to be okay. [Smile]

I can't think of anything to say that hasn't already been said. Just I remember our conversation last year about you hating January, and I'm sorry you have more reason to now, but glad that woman was there. I hope your mom will be okay.

I'd send you hugging thoughts too, but, well, you're the anti-hug . . .

I hope everything goes ok with the bypass. My grandfather had to get a quadrupal(sp?) bypass a while back. It was stressfull for all of us (and him) but it was good once it was over, since he was in much better health.

If it someone has to have a medical emergency, it is good to have it right next to a paramedic...but it is still stressful for her, and all the family.

OH man, Im' so sorry this happened.

But, the good news is that you are worried over a surgical procedure and not mourning her passing.

I will add my prayers that the surgery goes well and she recovers.

Wow, I'm so glad she's ok. Lots of good vibes for you and your family, rav, I'll be thinking of you.

The bypass (triple) is scheduled to happen in 3 hours. I know most of you are sleeping and what not.
Thanks for the thoughts.

I spent time with her tonight, as did most of my family. She is pretty normal (with the exception of loritab, and sleeping medicine.)

Tuesday was the 8th year anniversary of my dad's death as some of you know. (hooray for January.)

I thought I would mention that I will be there before the surgery this morning.

I hope everything goes well with the bypass. Sorry this has been such a rough month for you. You, your mother, and your family will be in my thoughts.

P.S. I wish I had read this when it was first up. Which hospital you go to makes a big difference. If... you'd had a choice. So maybe it wouldn't have helped for me to say anything. But if anyone I were related to needed surgery, I'd take them to St. George.

Well, she's still in surgery, I've been up all night and I'm going to bed because I work tonight. As of now there haven't been any complications, and all is progressing well.

I now know quite a bit more about what a bypass means, and how the heart works, compared to before this adventure.

They are taking arteries from her arms, and using them instead of the normal use of veins from the legs, because they've found that arteries are more resiliant than veins. (I am not a doctor; so take what I say with the knowledge that I'm learning about all of this.) Apparently one of her main veins on the heart was completely blocked, but there hadn't been any heart damage yet (death to cells on the heart due to lack of oxygen aka heart attack) So it looks as though this was brought on by that vein failing completely (We saw this on monday when they did the cath lab tests with dye.)

This actually was the best time to do this because her other veins or arteries (I don't remember the correct terminology at the moment) that were also supplying oxygenated blood to the heart were getting blocked up too. (again i'm tired and about to lay down) Hence the reason for the triple and not just the one.

At first I thought it was something to do with the supply going directly to the heart from the lungs or out to the lungs. I not knowing much about the heart other than it had 4 chambers and basic stuff have been pretty confused. Hopefully this will help any of you that might not have known. I also intend on looking up some more diagrams and stuff online when I wake up.

I'll find out more when I wake up, and post it.

I woke up to find this on AIM:
"Have you heard the good news yet? Mom came through the operation fine and the doctor was able to do the cadelac operation of first choices. Maybe that will give you the counterbalance of good for your Januarys. "

She's doing well, I spent most of the day with her today. They may release her tomorrow, and she will be staying with one of my sisters that lives close by.

She looked the best of the times I have seen her today, and this was the first time seeing her after her surgery. (not counting the stitches part)

We have had someone with her almost all the time she has been in the hospital, and I'm sure that has helped with the process.

My mom was released from the hospital yesterday, and is staying at my sisters house. She's doing very well. I think it's safe to say this will be the end of the updates on this thread.

Thanks for caring.

Yay!

[The Wave]

The fact that she was working out to begin with -- when it happened--- shows that she knows how to take care of her body, so I'm sure she will do great going forward.
