So when deciding where Wenchcon was gonna be this year, there were many votes for Washington D.C.

Alas, it did not end up there. But that doesn't mean we can't still party in D.C. like it's...2005...er...yeah!

So. Summercon. Washington D.C. Dancing, shows, museums, monuments, great public transportation system, tons of hotels, and much much more.

Who's in, who's interested?

And let's narrow it down by months first. June, July, or August?

Golly, that was fast. (we were just talking about this on IM, like, SECONDS ago...).

I think it's a good idea, though I'm not sure when I'd be able to go, or if. But it sounds like fun.

Posted by Strider (Member # 1807) on :

I think me and Kira would probably be able to make it whenever. Or atleast any of those months. Thursday-Saturday being the best days.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Just so you know, DallasCon is Memorial Day Weekend, you might want to space it a bit from that.

Posted by Strider (Member # 1807) on :

I doubt we'd be getting that much crossover with people attending a DallasCon.

Posted by Lady Jane (Member # 7249) on :

Hmm...my vote is the end of July, [Smile] , but it is questionable if I could make it. I'm supposed to be saving to go to Spain.

I'd want to go, and I'm going to be at DallasCon. Do I not count? [Frown]

[Frown]

not this year.

Posted by narrativium (Member # 3230) on :

If I stay in New York this summer, I'll be there.

Posted by CalvinMaker (Member # 2032) on :

I'm gonna be at DallasCon as well, so there will be some space between the two.

Posted by Sharpie (Member # 482) on :

Yeah, yeah, DC!

I'm going to be in DC the first week of july, but wouldn't be able to come to this, I wonder if I can justify another trip to DC this summer. It isn't really likely, but if someone else from bloomington is going, I might also.

Posted by Allegra (Member # 6773) on :

I vote for early August. (I could drive us Sarah.)

Posted by MyrddinFyre (Member # 2576) on :

Hmm, now there's somewhere I'd actually have a chance of being allowed to go... If I'm not doing an internship in CA or FL, I'm totally interested.

Posted by Miro (Member # 1178) on :

Don't think I'd be able to make it unless it was in May or very late August.

On another note: it would be great to schedule it sometime during the Folklife Festival. Definitely my favorite DC summer event.

Possibly. We could roadtrip down from New England, certainly.

It'll depend on Nathan's vacation time.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

No idea if I will actually be able to go. But just in case I can, I vote for mid-July or late August. (NOT a weekend between July 24th and August 15th.)

Posted by CalvinMaker (Member # 2032) on :

August is sounding pretty good.

The hotels around D.C. are cheaper in August because congress is out.

Posted by Miro (Member # 1178) on :

Well, it looks like I'll be home for most of the summer, so my schedule's wide open. [Smile]

YAY AUGUST! I'M IN THE US IN AUGUST!!

(edit: Bloomingtonians, we can all carpool together!)

I vote for August. Only because I probably won't have much vacation time before then, and if I'm going to DC, I have to visit my mom.

Posted by Dagonee (Member # 5818) on :

Early August. Please. We'll likely be moving out of our house, and it will be hard to find time anyway. But the later it gets the harder it will get.

Posted by Kasie H (Member # 2120) on :

I vote for early August.

Irami (I have no idea if you read these threads or not), do you ever come to these gatherings?

Posted by TomDavidson (Member # 124) on :

Hey, Noah: Christy and I might be in the D.C. area around the 11th of April. What're you doing?

Posted by Farmgirl (Member # 5567) on :

I'll be there in May (yep - before DallasCon) but I will get to see you in Texas, so that is probably good enough.

Not sure how many activities I could cram into my four days in D.C. anyway...

I'm in. Anytime this summer is good for me. DC is practically "just down the road". Ok, 1.5-2 hours depending on traffic, but that's nothing, really.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

The first two weekends in August are bad for me.

I don't suppose the last weekend in July (July 30-31) is doable? That would still be two months after DallasCon . . .

Posted by Raia (Member # 4700) on :

No, don't do those... that's probably when the performances of the kids' musical I'm working at are. They're always at the end of the month. And I can't miss them.

Posted by breyerchic04 (Member # 6423) on :

August is bad for me, but still possible, hmmm. I'll let you know later. But I will be in town (relativley busy but could have someone stop by to say hi) the first of july (or like june 26th to july 1st)

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

Just don't make it the weekend of August 19th, please, JenniK has an audition with Disney that weekend. If it is earlier than that, we MIGHT be able to swing it, although it will be tight.

mack, the train takes even less time from here in Springfield to DC, and sometimes there are good rates. I took a train to DC once...actually it was all the way to Ft. Sam in TX.....and it was great. No parking, no driving, and a booze car! [Big Grin]

I'd be interested, but I cannot say one way or the other, depends on internship stuff.

So don't count me in, but don't count me out.

I just want to point out that Noah is very lame for not making any attempt to meet up with us last weekend. [Smile]

Posted by Miro (Member # 1178) on :

He's probably at school. The only reason I was in town was because I happened to have a rugby tournament there last weekend.

Posted by TomDavidson (Member # 124) on :

Bah. School is insufficient excuse for lameness. [Wink]

Posted by katharina (Member # 827) on :

I think school is in Ohio.

Posted by TomDavidson (Member # 124) on :

Bah again! I too went to school in Ohio, and yet whenever I wanted to see myself, I found time to do so. [Smile]

Cool. DC hash a bunch of Hash Running groups. Pretty much one for every day of the week.

Posted by MaydayDesiax (Member # 5012) on :

Durnit, Noah, the first summer I sign up for classes, you have to go and have a con.

'Sides, B and I don't exactaly have the money for tickets, or room & board.

[Razz]

Oh, and congrats, btw.

Late August = bad for me.

Noah, you still doing this? If you need help planning/organizing, let me know.

Posted by KarlEd (Member # 571) on :

Just posting to show Chris and I are still interested. [Smile]

Posted by MyrddinFyre (Member # 2576) on :

Late August is also looking bad for me [Smile]

Posted by mackillian (Member # 586) on :

Late August always looks bad to me because it's hot and muggy.

Posted by MyrddinFyre (Member # 2576) on :

[ROFL]

That too. And it's ALREADY muggy. Eew.

Posted by Dagonee (Member # 5818) on :

I'm interested. So far, only July 8-12 is bad, but I will be selling my house in June and actually moving out in August. I won't know the move-out date until June 10 or so, so particular weekends will be up in the air until then.

Dagonee

If we want to do this, it's gonna have to be mid or late july if I'm organizing the bulk of it, since I'll most likely be in Israel for a year starting at the very beginning of August.

Raise your hand if you can do it sometime between July 15th and July 25th.

Posted by Kasie H (Member # 2120) on :

after the 20th

Ooh, I'm actually in town then! *Raises hand*

Posted by Raia (Member # 4700) on :

I can't, that's when the musical is. Oh well. I'll just have to make it another time.

<-- will also be in Israel all of next year.

JerusalemCon? [Wink]

Posted by KarlEd (Member # 571) on :

Raises hand. Given enough lead time, I can be there any time in July.

How does July 22nd through the 24th sound to everyone? (Friday through Sunday)

Posted by Raia (Member # 4700) on :

Nope, can't do that either. Damn. Show's still going on.

But don't try and plan around me, if you won't be there in August. I won't be free to leave Bloomington until August, most likely.

Posted by KarlEd (Member # 571) on :

Sounds good to me.

Posted by plaid (Member # 2393) on :

22nd-24th is fine!

Posted by MyrddinFyre (Member # 2576) on :

Hmmmmmmmmmmm [Smile]

Posted by Miro (Member # 1178) on :

That works.

Posted by Dagonee (Member # 5818) on :

Where are we on this? 22-24th works for bunbun and me.

Posted by Miro (Member # 1178) on :

For those coming from out of town, we have room for a few people at my parents' house. More, if you don't mind the floor.

Posted by bunbun (Member # 6814) on :

Woohoo! Woohoo!

*generally enthusiastic*

Posted by Parsimony (Member # 8140) on :

If this is still happening, I'd probably be able to come. Always good to meet more folks.

<-- 1

Posted by plaid (Member # 2393) on :

Don't think I'll be able to make it.

Posted by CalvinMaker (Member # 2032) on :

I'm gonna be way too busy preparing for Israel, so if this thing's gonna happen, unfortunately someone else will have to take the reigns.

Posted by Miro (Member # 1178) on :

Crud. I would volunteer, but now it looks like I may not be in town, either. [Frown]
