No, this tread is not about great childrens' literature. It's a rant. About my day. Don't read it if you don't want to, I won't be offended.

My day began at 3am. Boo woke up coughing. Hard. Poor baby. He cried, I cried. It was bad. He finally went back to sleep at about 4:30, despite *my* coughing. Yep, I'm still sick. Been sick for weeks.

I drift back off at 5 or so, only to be awakened by the obscene screech of my alarm clock, which my dear, devoted husband has thoughtfully set for 5:30 am. 1 1/2 hours before I need to get up. Why? I don't know.

Shut it off, reset it, and dozed fitfully until 7. Got up, got the kids dressed and onto the school bus, fed the baby and called the doctor's office.

I had called last week and set up an appointment for myself for this morning. I'm sick of being sick. But the baby's sick with the same thing too, so could they please pull his chart and let the doctor see him too?

NO! They're all booked up, so I tell them to please reschedule my appointment to Friday and give him mine. They do it, but not without a hassle.

About then the phone rings. Principal of the kids' school. Dan's in trouble for acting up on the bus.

Sat down to watch Las Vegas, which I had recorded from last night.

No Las Vegas. I don't know why, but the new DVR didn't record it. It did, however, record a full 12 seconds of Blues Clues this morning.

Crap. Fine. Watched Sliders instead. Interesting premise. Sort of like Quantum Leap, but with no all-seeing advisor and with multiple "leapers". Set the recorder for the next episode so I can watch it when I get home.

Then Dan's teacher calls. He's bouncing off the walls, so she's sending him to ISP for the day.

Get dressed, get the baby fed and dressed, have just enough time to get to the doctor's office 5 minutes early. Bundle us up, take Boo and all our stuff out to the car, and get him all buckled up into his carseat.

Then he starts coughing. Hard. So hard he choked. Then he threw up.

By the time I got him back in the house, got the yack out of his hair, changed his clothes, got back out to the car and buckled back in, we were running late. So I call the doctor. Receptionist says sure, go ahead and come on in, you're not that late.

I guess she didn't realize I live so far away, because when I got there, we were too late to be seen and had to reschedule. For 4:40. The kids get out of school at 3. CRAP!

Fine. I'll run my errands. Go to Blockbuster to pick up the PS2 the guy there reserved for me a few days ago. Sold out! Apparently, they can't do that. FINE!

Go to the children's resale shop. Find some cute clothes for the monsters, and a pair of nice shoes for each of them. Cool.

Go to the bank to take money out of my sister's account for her. Can't get all she needed because you can only take out a certain amount per day. WTF? It's HER freaking money! Jerks. So now I gotta go back again tomorrow.

Head south, toward the doctor's office, home, and the office. Call hubby to ask what the weather's doing, because it seemed cold all of a sudden. Crappy weather moving in. Decide to run home to get my umbrella.

Get to the house, and I gotta pee. Baby's sleeping, so I run in, use the potty, grab a bottle of juice for Boo, and run back out to the car. Got in. Went to start the...crap. No keys. They're on the edge of the bathtub. And the door is locked. DOUBLECRAP!

After much consternation, many phone calls, and a few tears, I throw a brick through the window. Climb in, shut the storm window behind me, retrieve my keys, and head back out.

Get to the doctor's office. Wait for AGES to see the doctor. Get antibiotics and she loaned me a nebulizer and gave me some albuterol for the boy. His breathing is pretty labored and fast. Makes me sad.

Go to the drugstore. Pay for the drugs. Go pick up the older kids from the daycare. Get home.

The shoes I bought are too small. Sliders didn't get recorded. Or it got erased. Or whatever.

Administer a breathing treatment for Boo. It's hard to do because there's a mouthpiece in the box instead of a ped mask.

Hubby comes home and gripes nonstop. About all kinds of crap.

Now it's almost midnight, I still have to clean up the glass I broke, wash my clothes for work tomorrow and hope I get enough sleep to be coherent in the morning.

Oh, yeah, and I broke a nail sometime today too.

Some days, it's just not worth it to get out of bed.

Wow, you actually broke your window? I've wanted to do that so many times. I've locked myself out of my car so many times, I've just had to get semi decent with a wire hanger. Sorry your little one is sick. [Frown]

She broke the window on her HOUSE (to get back in to get the keys) not on her car!

((Boon)) I hope the rest of your week gets better. I'm adding you to my prayer list.

Get yourself a nice, long hot bath. It might be good for your cough too. Hope today turns out better.

Hug your husband. Say "Wow, both our days were truly crappy, lets cry together and then put the kids to bed early and give each other a massage." Plan a date for friday (hopefully if you aren't sick. If you are sick, make it a stay at home date and rent a movie to watch together.

The whole time I'm reading this I'm thinking to myself "I can so relate."

I know it probably doesn't make you feel any better, but I do feel your pain. I've had days like that.

Hope all of you start feeling better soon.

Ever read "Could Be Worse" by James Stevenson to your kids? That's what I think of every time I read the title.

Wow, Boon. That is a super crummy day. At least you got to hurl a brick through your window. I've always wanted to do that.
