Talk about your weird coincidences! The top three threads are all rants - one of them mine. Now four with this one - oh yes, I'd better get around to ranting, right? Ahem :

What is the use of ranting on an Intarwebnet board? Talk to someone in person! You might get a hug. The only thing you'll get here is a bunch of text, possibly including a (()). Which, incidentally, is a really pathetic excuse for a hug. How does it relieve your feelings to punch a keyboard? Most people do that all day anyway.

I if ranted at actually people I'd probably just annoy them or something. They'd be like-"Why is that such a big deal?" or "If you hate it so much, why do you watch it?"

Why do we consider having somebody drape their meaty arms around us so special--particularly if there's no sexual relationship involved? I mean, pressure from another person's arms and possibly chest does what, exactly to lift my spirits? What makes this a particularly effective way to tell me you support me? [Wink]

Maybe the question is just one of interface device. While one may truly be more effective than another, isn't it the feelings being communicated that matter most? I appreciate parentheses when they are given, because I appreciate the sentiment behind them.

Ranting is a nice anonymous way of letting off steam.

Take me as an example. I'm a proud man, probably to a fault, and there are some things that I can't say to someone if I'm looking them in the eyes. Posting is in someways a form of therapy, much like writing letters to say what you need to say.
