Mary Doria Russell just came out with a new novel A Thread of Grace. I know her previous two novels (The Sparrow and Children of God) weren't received on Hatrack with universal adoration, but I seem to recall there were a few people here who enjoyed her work.

I bought her latest last night at Costco and, remembering that her previous two were interesting enough to want to talk about them, wondered if anyone else wants to read it at the same time and then we can talk about it when we're done. Anyone game?

I'm not reading as fast as normal, because of school work but I'm game. I read the blurb on the novel at Amazon, sounds interesting.

Library run tomorrow. If I can find a copy, I'm in. I'll read the others first, but I'm a pretty fast reader.

What kind of books are these? What kind of author is she? If it sounds interesting, I'll add it to my "Interminable List Of Books To Read Someday, I Hope" and I'll probably get around to it in about 648 years. Or, if they sound truly stupendous, I might bump them up to the front of the line and read them next.

So who is this?

*bump*

Sorry...I got busy and couldn't seem to get to this book. Until a week ago. I finished it today.

dh, Mary Doria Russell has published three novels. The first two were science fiction, chronicling the events of a Jesuit mission to another planet where a new race was discovered. A Thread of Grace is a historical novel set in 1943-45 Italy. It chronicles a group of people, some Jews, some not, through a small geographical area.

Anyone else read it yet?
