I might have the need to rent a car in the near future. Is it even possible being 21 and sans credit card?

edit: use all the parts of speech fool.

From what little I know, you need to be twenty-five to rent a car, in the United States at least. My aunt rented one and it was illegal for her to let me (under 25) drive it too. That's the car I learned manual on! [Big Grin]

I don't know about the credit card.

I'd question the "illegal" aspect of your comment. However, it's possible that many rental car companies have policies that prohibit renting to people under 25.

I'd suggest calling a few rental companies and seeing what their policies are. If you really need a rental car and can't get one from the Big Boys (i.e. Hertz, Avis, etc) look in the yellow pages. Most larger towns will have one or two "mom & pop" type rental outfits that might have less stringent policies. However, Caveat Emptor.

[minor edit: changed "likely" to "possible" and "most" to "many" in second sentence.]

I know Enterprise rents to people 21 and up, but charges extra, there are a few other companies that will as well.

The credit card is where you might have problems. Do you have a debit card with a Visa/MC logo? If so, most will accept that.

Yeah - be prepared for a large cash deposit of some kind and a hefty insurance charge if you don't have a credit card. And that's IF they'll rent to you.
