This is a relatively new band whom we have seen on our festival circuit. i believe we will be seeing much more of them, as they already have a video. They are from British Columbia, I think.

Check them out, they are very fun!

(The Duhks)(pronounced like the bird)

Oh, I love you, Elizabeth!

I have been a big fan of CMT tv for years, but never even THOUGHT about looking for it online. It has always been a "special treat" for when I go traveling and stay at a hotel, since I don't get cable or satellite at home. Now I can listen and see it online!

I listened to the Duhks song -- it is very interesting:
quote:
The Duhks -- pronounced "ducks" -- came together by a combination of planning and happenstance. Founder Leonard Podolak set out to bring together a group of musicians who could create a new sound with traditional roots. Each of their distinct individual styles (blues, salsa, old-time, celtic, Scots-Metis) collides with surprising fluidity and forms something fresh and unexpected.
They don't "look" at all like a country music band -- they look very punk and rock. But their music definately has that traditional mountain-music feel. It is truly a unique blend.

I think they will do very well.

Wow. I saw them once in Bozeman - I assumed they were small-time since they'd bother to come there. [Smile] They were excellent in concert.

Oddly, I came home with a Duhks CD just the other day, the product of browsing at Borders. Christy was initially very skeptical, because she knows my taste tends more to the punk, but I insisted -- despite the band photo -- that they were closer to her kind of music. [Smile]

But I'd hardly call 'em country music, either.

Pretty sure they've been a featured artist on the local country station's Sunday night "alternate country" show.

Cool video. Thanks, Liz. [Smile]

We saw them at Rythm and Roots in Rhode Island this fall. We had heard a lot about them from our other groupie friends.

Old Crow Medicine Show is another group who has a video on CMT. We had seen them a few years ago when they were a blip on the screen. The song on that video is more pop than country, and they are predominantly an old time band.

It is fun to go to music festivals, because you see so many different bands up close, and then all of a sudden, some of them shoot straight up. I could name quite a few bands I think are phenomenally better, yet will never make it "to the top." Maybe they have a different view of the top? I always wonder what the secret is.
