OK, I have freakin had it with reading about everyone else's fun get-togethers.

I would be happy to host a dinner or afternoon late lunch sort of thing, as I have time on my hands. This way, we don't have to worry about how many people are coming, or coordinating a restaurant room or anything like that.

Ela, are you coming up to visit JaneX any time soon? We could plan it around that time.

Seriously, I almost cried reading about the henna party, because I so wanted to go. Let's do this thing!

[Group Hug]

Sorry about that, Elizabeth. [Frown] I hope you have fun at your dinner party. [Smile]

[Cool] Awesome -- a proactive way of dealing with henna-jealousy (a syndrome I suffer from as well).

Too bad you're so far away!

But I tell ya, if the next freind I get to join Hatrack moves away in a couple of months, I'm going to stop recruiting.

Nathan and I owe Kwea and JenniK a visit and pool and dinner. We're so in.

I thought this was an announcement of a new, region-centric political party.

Alas-- it had such promise.

As a matter of fact, Ela, Shlomo, and my father are coming up to visit me this weekend.

But I'm not sure how much free time they'll have.

~Jane~

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

Ooh, JaneX!
Well, if it doesn't work out this weekend, we can just plan it, and whoever comes, comes. Do you have a car? I couls always come and pick you up, or you could take the bus and I could pick you up on Bay Rd.

Liz, I'll have to talk to my dad about this, but would Saturday night work for you?

~Jane~

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

Jenni isn't working this Sat, but I am working until 7 pm. I can always switch with someone, I have a few co-workers who owe me, but I need to know if this is a go for sure before I do so. Even doing this I might be working until 5 pm though.

If it is happeneing, Jenni and I are in.

Saturday would be fine!

Posted by mackillian (Member # 586) on :

I have a tournament Saturday morning till mid-afternoonish, so we could make an evening get together.

Posted by JaneX (Member # 2026) on :

An evening get-together is what I was thinking anyway, Jamie. The Sabbath doesn't end until 6:30ish, so we couldn't go anywhere until after that. [Smile]

~Jane~

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

Yes yes yes!

I will even boil corn for poor Sarah, the stoveless wonder.

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

I'm in then, I can always leave a bit early once way or another.

Liz, want to do this potluck style? I have a slow cooker I could bring. I also cook pretty well, and Jenni bakes.... [Big Grin]

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

Sure, that sounds good.

Well, how about this. Potlucks are great, but then, if someone cannot come, you end up with no brownies, or whatever.

I will make a big salad, and either lasagna or baked ziti. Then, people can bring whatever they want, appetizers, desserts, or another main course, so we don't have to do the sign-up thing.

So, a modified potluck, I guess.

Posted by mackillian (Member # 586) on :

I hate lasagna. [Frown] *feels bad*

The other thing is that I can't eat regular pasta. Well, I CAN, I just get the shakes after an hour or so passes. I can have whole wheat pasta though, so I can just bring my own and some saucy goodness. [Smile]

Am I bringing fencing stuff with me?

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

Why don't we do a modified sign-up too, here in this thread. That way we don't all bring the same thing.

I will try to find somehting to make that we can all have, or at least most of us. I have a great recipe for veggie dip, so we will make a veggie plate with that (it also doubles as a chip dip), and mabe Jenni can bake something...I already aske d her and she said that she would think about it.

Posted by JaneX (Member # 2026) on :

Just as a reminder, if there's food, my family and I need something vegetarian. [Smile]

And we still have to talk to my dad about going - it's not definite yet. I'll keep you posted.

~Jane~

*runs around in circles*

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

Mry, are you going?

[Big Grin]

JaneX, I know, that is what I was referring to, about dietary restrictions. I will bring the veggie plate for apps, but perhaps you could make some suggestions about what would be acceptable as an entre if you are going to attend.

As long as the lasgne is meatless that would work, right? And if someone wants meat in the sause, we can do a side of meat sause for the top.

Or just about anything, as long as it isn't too complicated. [Big Grin]

Posted by JaneX (Member # 2026) on :

Meatless lasagna would be fine. Sounds really yummy, in fact. [Smile]

~Jane~

Posted by MyrddinFyre (Member # 2576) on :

Well I was sposed to go to NYC on Sat but a couple people backed out so I will too... I just have to ask parents about car useage and stuff, and my brother's coming home Fri so I have to make sure we don't have anything planned Sat night, and blahblahblahI'll try my darndest!

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

Like I said, it wouldn't be too hard to cook up a small pan of that on the side, or to cook a large one that way and provide a large bowl of meat sause on the side for people like me who love meat sause... [Big Grin]

I thin Dag's site has a few veg/vegan recipises in it too, but I am not sure.

I know that JaneX has limited abilities to cook at Smith, IIRC.....

Whoa! *flashing lights and all that good stuff* JaneX goes to Smith?? as in the all girls' school [Cool] ? My cousin just started there this year.. That's just really very strange. very very strange.

And, *jealous, jealous, jealous* as well.

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

esl, I live within half an hour, maybe less, from Smith.

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

Well, if Jenni and I are still here this summer, and it looks like we might be, then I plan on having another picnic at Look Park...although this time I think we will all pitch in and get a pavillion or something.

I don't think I like the "drowned rat" look.

ElJay, April is still a ways away -- I'm jealous now! [Wink]

Besides, I know 2-3 hours drive away isn't far for you Midwesterners, but out here it effectively means I doubt I'll see I3 much more than the other SoCal clumpers. That is, not NEARLY often enough.

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

I was actually planning on making a spinach lasagna and a meat lasagna, anyway, so no problemo there.

As for you, Mackstress, I will make one with whole wheat noodles. Honest, making lasagna is one of those things that, once you are making it, it is not a big deal to make extra.

Any other dietary needs out there?

Mack, you are welcome to bring the fencing stuff, nut our house is pretty small. How much space do you need for all that fancy parrying stuff?

Posted by Theca (Member # 1629) on :

Mack hates lasagna no matter what you put in it or what noodles you use. I haven't figured out why that is when there are so many different ways to make lasagna, but I'm betting if you call it lasagna then she can't eat it.

Posted by esl (Member # 3143) on :

But lasagna's pasta! How can someone as cool as mackillian not like something as equally cool as pasta? It's so nummy..

Actually, I could probably count the number of times I've had lasagna on one hand, but I know it's good. My family hasn't been to an Italian restaurant in a while. I'll make sure we order it next time we go to Buca's.

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

Duh. No lasagna. OK, there will be something whole wheat and non lasagnesque for her.

Posted by mackillian (Member # 586) on :

Quite possible. Every two weeks my mother and I would argue about me liking lasagna.

Me. "What's for dinner?"
Mom. "Lasagna."
Me. "So what will I eat?"
Mom. "You LOVE lasagna."
Me. "No, I don't."

Every two weeks! [Wall Bash]

Awhile back, my sister and I went to Olive Garden for lunch. She ordered the lasagna. I commented that lasagna is icky.

She says, "But you LOVE lasagna."

Yay, Myr!

So far, is this right...

JaneX
Ela
The Kidnapping Victim(Ela's husband, Jane's dad)
Kwea
JenniK
Mack
Nathan

Food so far:
Lasagna
Chicken curry and rice(new addition from my Indian step-father-in-law)
Something whole wheatish for Mack
Salad

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

You forgot to add Myr, silly!

I will bring homemade veggie dip and veggies, chips, and Jennni will make a dessert...she can't make up her mind which though, but it will be safe for us all to eat, probably.

Kat, just let us know when and we will see if we can set up something in May for you, even if it is just to meet you for dinner somewhere. If you are heading to Maine you are peobably heading up I91, which goes within 1/4 a mile from our house. [Big Grin]

What time frame are we looking at for tomorrow? I know that Ela and crew said their Sabbath ends at 6:30 (i think), so we are planning a little bit later of a gathering, right? I am working until 7 pm, but I will probably leave work a bit early.

I have plenty of time built up to cover it, so I don't think it will be a problem.

Sun sets around 5:40 friday and saturday (around 5:30 further east here in Boston). Why I know this would require a whole different post.

I should probably ask my fiancee if she'd be willing to head out west, but since we're going out there the following weekend for birthday celebrations, so we'll probably not make it.

Any time is fine. Even if we wanted to, their is no room to sit down at a table, so it is a buffet deal.

Myr and Kwea et all, I will send out directions tomorrow AM. I just got back from a friend's house, and I am pooped.

Mack should come via Rte 2, I think.95 S to 495 S to 2 W to 202 S. (You are near 95, right? or not?)

Posted by mackillian (Member # 586) on :

OK, I am making spinach lasagna, and something with whole wheat macaroni for Mack.

Unless you are bringing sopmething, Mack? You had mentioned it. It is not necessary, I just don't want to overdo it.
I also have the chicken curry, which I tried yesterday, and it is good! (And pretty hot)It comes out a little different every time, but this one is great.

Oh, I also have a big bottle of red wine if anyone wants some(I do), so bring anything else you want to drink. We have some soda, and water, of course.

I have plenty of paper plates, and we do have a little stream running through our property. Wouldn't it be tragic if one of those plates happened to land in it? Someone would have to rescue it, because littering is against the law...

Sarahdipity,
No problem. It sounds like we will have to have another event when Kat comes through. If she tries to say it is not on her way, we will have another kidnapping on our hands.

Jane, my number is (classified.) I forgot to put it on there, so I hope you get it in time.

Kwea and Myr, your directions are next! I have had to write a different set for every group, as you are all coming from different directions. In Kwea's case, i have to find the name of the other end of one of the streets. A great massachusetss tradition is to have a street with a minimum of three names, depending on which direction you are going, or what town line you have crossed. Ugh.

Kwea, last year, we went to a music festival in North Carolina. Steve had gone down with someone else, and I went with another groupie friend.

We had no map. Well, we did, but it only went to Pennsylvania.

Another friend said, "Just take 81 all the way."

We did. We took it all the way almost to friggin Tennessee. Sigh. EIGHT HOURS out of our way. But we still made it for Crow Greenspun, with ten minutes to spare.

By the way, I have a wicked cold, and my house will not be in the shape I want it to be in for this event.

Also, does anyone play guitar? We have, like, a million of them. I say we have a jam session, whether we can play or not.

(We also have an electric piano, three recorders, one working clarinet, and a sewt of tabla.)

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

No, but I could bring my flute...although I think we might be better off without it, as the last time I played was over a year ago, and the last time I played in public was 5 years ago. [Big Grin]

Bring it! My daughter just bailed on trombone. It was when she was practicing with tears rolling down her face that I thought it was time. (She gets very bad headaches when she plays, apparently)

By the way, I was thinking of you as a flute teacher. Would you be interested in that? She has chosen flute as the replacement. (We can discuss this tomorrow)

She is ten. She would be a very much beginner.

She is a natural on recorder. She has always had perfect ptch and tone when singing. (and has always been very good on recorder)Her thing now is that she likes to go pretty much opposite of our recommendations. She has a beautiful voice, but thought chorus was "boring."

Plus, she is up againsat her brother, or feels she is. I could make a whole thread about this. Aidan is pretty much a guitar genius. Alyssa is incredibly talented but has a short term focus.

Anyway, we're home. Just thought we'd let folks know. I hope Myr posts when she gets home. o_O

Hello hello! Safe and sound [Smile]

Had a great time! Lets do it againnn!

Wish you could have made it,sarah!

Too bad, Sarah!
Thanks for coming you guys, it was so much fun. I slept until 9:00, the latest I have in a long time.
The Kidnapping Victim made it through the perils of the evening: a cold house, a weak tea bag, and the constant yammering of people who talk all the time but have never met. It was so nice to meet you, Jeff!
Mack and Nathan, though tired from a grueling day and a long drive, were beaming in the light of the newly wed.
Myr was happy and sweet as always, and loved my horrendous, 1970's orange and gold kitchen floor. (which is just wrong, wrong I say)
JaneX and Shlomo were a hopeful vision of the future for me, when two siblings of opposite sex can love each other and bask in each other's presence with such obvious joy.
Kwea and JenniK are natural MC's, and kept the action going. I do not appreciate the dense, rich, chocolatey goodness they left here, though, as I am starting Weight Watchers. Again. Tomorrow.(But what is better than chocolate cake for breakfast?)
And Ela, it was so wonderful to meet my fellow over-40 Hatrack pal. You are as strong and beautiful as you are in print!
Such a great time, thanks again!

I just woke up an hour ago! (I didn't get to sleep till after 3). I didn't even take that MANY pictures because I was tired. Gimme some time! I still need to find something to eat.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

I didn't get to sleep until 2:30. And you're three hours ahead. I've already had breakfast. *slurps last bits of cocoa*

And if there are few pics, it should be a fast upload. So you'll have time to upload an ADHD too, I bet.

I still have to finish drawing one. I've been BUSY. And I fenced for six hours yesterday. Ugh. I don't want to move. And my brain isn't on yet. I actually felt it turn off yesterday, midway through my last bout. *click* *Brain Very Over*

Yes, so busy you weren't on AIM all last week!

Oh, wait . . . that was me.

Posted by mackillian (Member # 586) on :

Yes. Why aren't you now?

Still waiting for my brain to turn on. I might need to eat some food or something. Or the seroquel hasn't worn off yet.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Food sounds good. Much better than gnawing off your own arm.

Much harder to type that way . . .

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

Speaking of food, who stole the darn cheese ball, huh? Did you take it back, Evil Myr? I can't find it anywhere.

Kwea, post your dip recipe!

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

Dip?

First you find a true blonde...then you marry her!

Of course, I don't know who is the dip in that marriage...probably both of them! [Big Grin]

Myr took the stinky beef jerky with the intent on eating it. I hope she's still alive. [Eek!]

Posted by MyrddinFyre (Member # 2576) on :

*giggle*

The jerky is A M A Z I N G. munchmunchmunch. So yummy!

I left you the cheeseball... I think on the cutting board, actually. I think I forgot to stick it in the fridge [Frown]
Did it disappear? O_o

OK, you're off the hook, Myr, because the cheeseball has been found.

Perhaps the beef jerky can be used in a new type of aromatherapy?

Posted by T_Smith (Member # 3734) on :

"MYR! Smell my jerky! It's HORRIBLE!!"

Posted by mackillian (Member # 586) on :

Should we ask WHERE you found the cheeseball?

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

Myr likes:

1)My 1970's kitchen floor

2) T's nasty-a** beef jerky.

Anything else we should know, Myr?

Sounds like a good time was had by all.

Nate walked up to me and said "Here, smell this.", adn I ran away.

I may have married a blonde, but that doesn't mean I am one!

Very nice, mack - your bias is showing, though . . . [Razz]

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

1) If that's "soon," remind me to never ask you to put away the milk.

2) You are such a smitten kitten. It is so adorable!

3) Cool pics. Looks like everyone had a great time. [Smile]

Nate getting caught cheating was a great time...now mack has proof...although she needs to learn the difference between film and video. [Big Grin]

Thanks for posting those mack, I will send you our pics as soon as we get them developed.

Who is in charge of foobonic these days? You should send that first group pic to them to post on foobonic....you knowm the pic where Ela has her eyes open in it.. [Evil]

rivka! That's mean! She's in love - of course, the milk would take second place in precedence.

Jenni will post the Italian Veggie Dip (fat free if you want it to be) tomorrow. She was too busy tonight to do it.

I have no idea what bias you're talking about.

Oh, and here's pics from when we visited jexx.

We had a great time. [Big Grin]

Elizabeth was an awesome hostess. [Smile]

Myr is beautiful (and taller than I expected her to be [Wink] ).

It was great to see jamie, Nate and Kwea again, and to finally meet JenniK. [Smile]

Posted by mackillian (Member # 586) on :

Yeah, I was just telling Ela that myr really is stunning.

And Liz is a GREAT hostess. We really do have to do this again sometime, with Nathan and I getting there earlier.

Posted by MyrddinFyre (Member # 2576) on :

Pfft.

Yes, Liz is the best hostess ever! With the coolest floor ever.

Here are the pictures that managed to find their way onto my camera. [Smile]

I can't believe you ate that jerky and are still alive.

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

I can't believe she smelled th jerky and wanted to smell it repeatedly, and is still alive.

Posted by Ela (Member # 1365) on :

I can't believe how many pictures she took of the beef jerky. [Laugh]

Posted by mackillian (Member # 586) on :

I can't explain the excess of beefjerky-y pictures. But I can assure you there are no more than those ^^

Hehe, in that picture I'm making a face like if anyone steals you away I'll bite them!

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

It would have been safer to bite the people rather than the rancid jerky.

Posted by Ela (Member # 1365) on :

I can't even remember the floor... [Razz]

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

It is a 70's orange and brown affair.

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

It is similar to the one in "That 70's Show"....
